RIGHT to know? Why in the world should Nosy Nellie and friends have a RIGHT to know any details of another family. When people purposely seek the limelight for no other reason than to be famous, they put themselves at risk for this. When they simply excel and delight the fans with their unabashed joy...why go looking for the dark side. In this world of instant and intrusive information gathering....does anyone understand the concept of privacy? Does anyone understand that just because you "can", doesn't mean you "should".

Ms. Oudin should be subject to the same intrusive treatment afforded all others in professional sports. The Williams sisters have endured withering invasions of privacy and overcome to achieve far more than this soon to be pampered "new comer"....The best overcome obstacles achieving despite them. Those who wish her to be "sheltered" from the relentless current churn are advocating for a position of privilege completely antiqated. Besides people need to know that there are Mark Sanford types [hypocrits] all over America.

To the Sports Editor: This is a private matter, and as such, should not be a news stories for a respectable national publication. Let the NY Post report on this kind of "news". Please respect the privacy of their family. I agree with Ann's comment above.

Peter, you are way off base. Go read US Weekly and People magazine if you want celebrity gossip. How would you like your family skeletons getting washed through the news cycle?

The mom had an affair with THE COACH.

It's a relevant story and a big deal. None of us likes to hear about it, because we all wish Melanie well, but it doesn't change the facts.

We all know of the special relationship between tennis (and/or gymnastics) families and the coach. If the parents were cheating with someone else, it wouldn't be relevant. The fact that this coach was sleeping with Melanie's mom, and wrecking their marriage his a HUGE tennis story. His career as a tennis coach is probably over and SHOULD be.

The reporter and editor responsible for publishing this story in the Times should go work for a tabloid. Stories like this one make me want to stop reading the LA Times.
