Police time and energy is wasted on directing traffic. Also they are often intimidating, don't direct the traffic because they feel superior and just enjoy the ridiculous high pay. My area has been under construction for a year and a half and I have to deal with their attitude daily. If they wanted to keep working at these construction areas they could try being a little more helpful when dealing with regular citizens?? If civilian's were to direct traffic it would create more job's, the State wouldn't have to pay as much money and they would actually assist drivers in an un-intimidating way. (MA spent $25mm last year and could have $5.5-$7.2mm if using regular folk)This is a no brainer, a monkey could do the job. Safety-wise don't we trust Crossing Guards with our children's safety crossing our roads? Give me a break.

Our most precious, our school children, do not get, nor need, police at crosswalks, why would trained workers on road construction sites deserve any better than our children? Answer: Follow the money.
