Our company has had Columbus Day as a holiday until they found the need to be politically correct by switching to give us the Martin Luther King Jr Day off from work. We employ 2 African American employees out of over 300 total employees, and they both were very vocal in saying that if the company chose to honor Columbus (who in their mind was not worth honoring) and not Martin Luther King Jr., they would write to the local newspapers and local television studios to complain. So needless to say out of fear of any sort of backlash, we no longer get the Columbus Day as a holiday. There was no discussion, and the other employees had no say in the matter. Very sad.
