Should Massachusetts repeal the income tax as referendum Question 1 would do in the November election?

Answer 1Yes. Taxes are too high and size of state government should shrink.

Answer 2No. Repealing the income tax would cripple vital state services, reduce state education aid and squeeze local government even further.

The coalition for smaller government claims that 3.4 million workers will save $3700 each by this bill. The fact is less that 25% of Massachusetts pay $3700 or more in personal income tax. So 75% of Massachusetts residents will not save $3700. A person making $25,000 per year will save $1325 (and that's if they typically get no tax refund). I realize that $1300 is valuable but it is not worth what will be lost in jobs and services. Besides that $1300 will easily be recouped in other tax increases. The wealthiest stand to gain and the poorest stand to lose.

The poll question as stated is rigged and worded with subjective assumptions that are not in the bill which is more likely to lead the uninformed to vote no.
