I think what kris was trying to convey was extremely profound but seems to have gotten lost due to it's brevity. Simply put, what he meant in my opinion was that old school hip hop heads did music from the heart and were motivated by the art of hip hop and the culture. Much like a Vietnamese or Arab fighting in a war willing to die if neccessary. Their motivation is the act of serving their culture not just to succeed. Old school hip hop heads wrote lyrics with crayons if need be. Nowadays these new kids use a lap top to compose those sentences they call lyrics and they are motivated by fame and money.
