Yes! I have not seen a shot like this of Biden! Nor any other male candidate! So you have to wonder WHY now???

NORM
Oct 9, 2008 9:15pm ET

Having been a former newspaper photographer, I can say that it is probably a shot I would have taken because it is a unique angle on an otherwise boring subject matter - talking heads, etc. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the photographer was female - many of them are. I will say this: the shoes and legs being out of focus is bothersome to me. I was trained to never have something that large in the foreground out of focus. Still, it's an effective use of subtlety to tell the story: hey, there's FINALLY a woman running for VP!!

I can't believe the "junk" that is thrown at sarah palin why have the news media not given us pictures of Biden or Obama in unflattering situations/ Obama with a "halo" give me a break Obama votes "present" what kind of a leader is this? Obama states we have 57 states. What are the other 7? Iran. cuba, north korea. etc. I am so fearful of going down the socialist road

Absolutely! However, I don't care because as a sexist: I dig it! However, and intellectually, it will not advance nor deter my decision to vote for the ticket I believe to be the most appropriate. 2009 is not the right time for Obama or any other hugely risky choice. McCain has made a positive impression on me during the last debate. It is time to figure out who Obama really is.

Sarah is a gorgeous woman and this is demeaning. I feel sorry for the kid too. This is in very bad taste but what do you expect from the mainstream media? I bet MSNBC are happy to show off this picture. Take it off the internet.... please.

Govenor Palin is a breath of fresh air ! ! ! ! She will definately influence voters and greatly assist Senator McCain in getting elected and moving our Country forward. She is also doing a great job of making people aware of Senator O'Bama's association with very unsavory people, like Wright , Ayers, etc... and organizations like ( acorn ) who also seem to hold him in high regard.

Different subject. I heard in the last few weeks on the radio that Obama's speeches mirror the speeches that Castro gave many years ago when he captured the people's votes and took over the country. I imagine those speeches could be found and compared. Just a thought.

I DOUBT ANY WOMAN WOULD LIKE A PHOTO SHOT BETWEEN HER LEGS -- BUT I WONDER WHAT DOES THAT YOUNG MAN IN THE PICTURE THINK OF BEING USED IN A SEXIST AD? I DOUBT HE WAS THE INSTIGATOR. HE APPEARS LIKE A TYPICAL MCCAIN/PALIN SUPPORTER IN HIS T-SHIRT. THIS IS DISPICABLE JOURNALISM.

Nelson Murphy
Oct 9, 2008 9:23pm ET

I didn't think it was sexist - Rather, it was stupid. It merely displays feminine footwear setting off 2 young men from an unflattering position. Without an explanation that the legs are Sarah's, no one could know what the picture was about and that is NOT good news photography.

Brian in NH
Oct 9, 2008 9:24pm ET

This is certainly not journalistic in any way, shape or form. Regardless of my republican affiliation, if it was of Hillary I would feel the same way, disgusted. Something like this should never be in print.

I totally think Palin's got great legs, but this is very aggravating. It is like a pic of Obama buttocks or front......maybe the one with him holding the phone upside down should be on every magazine and paper. The head wrap,I would like to see more of that. This is the most disgusting and bias, double standard election I have ever seen in my life.Anyone who legally registered to vote for Obama is a fool and I think most likely corrupt.

Jacky Boyd

No, it is not sexist. She is so beautiful why shouldn't they take picts of her legs? To be clear, it's a Sexy Shot. She is probably the only lady in Washington that doesn't have Crankles. We have to support her since the media is trashing her. The sorry flea-bitten dogs!

As an independent voter I am not happy about the choices we have this year. I will probably be voting for John McCain even though I don't think he is driving home the issues that voters need to hear. While I certainly agree that Barack Obama's associations, voting record, or lack thereof, and his bad judgement issues are important and need to be exposed, it is evident to me that it is going to take more than that to win this election. In the debate Tuesday night Sen. McCain kept saying he knows what to do and how to do it but he never gave any indication to the voter of what he would do and how it would affect the American people. Neither did Barack Obama for that matter. I am looking for a candidate with substance on the issues that affect me directly. Issues like how do we turn this economy around, protecting our social security entitlements, 2nd Amendment positions, health care, winning the war on terror without dragging it out any further than absolutely necessary, minimum wage considerations and last but certainly not least energy independence. Actually there are other issues but there is not enough space here to address them all.

Oct 9, 2008 9:34pm ET

My first thought is why did they take a picture of a guy looking up her dress? When it comes to pictures like this, I just consider the source. Oh and in my "male" opinion yes it is sexist. Having said that, I too wish the legs were in focus. :)

I can't believe I just finished watching FOX News vent its vexation, disapproval and contempt for the so called "racial" comments said by Senator McCain (which were clearly not), and then a few minutes later I see a story accusing Reuters of sexism over an artistic (albeit corny) photo. Fair and balanced?

Oct 9, 2008 9:41pm ET

This was the photographer's attempt to make Sarah Palin look like Mrs. Robinson (Anne Bancroft) in the movie The Graduate. It's pretty obvious and intentionally disrespectful, especially since Sarah Palin has made it no secret that she is a Christian. You know they wouldn't do this to Hillary Clinton or Nancy Pelosi - but then again, most Republican women are better looking then those two hacks anyway! :)

Ed
Oct 9, 2008 9:42pm ET

i'd call it somewhat sexist, but, mostly stupid!

Oct 9, 2008 9:45pm ET

This photo is in very poor taste. Whatever happened to objective reporting? Instead, we are getting objectionable reporting. Be it commentary, written article, or photograph. The news media is charged with the responsibility of reporting the news, not guiding it to match their own political conviction. This picture shows a lack of respect for Mrs. Palin, both as a candidate and also as a woman in a modern, "supposedly" enlightened society.

I am disgusted at what is going on in this country. How have we left the liberal media and the liberal legal system take over this country? The country is in shambels because members from both parties have nothing but greed in their hearts(if they have hearts?). I think the picture is sexist and I think it is time for McGain to take off the golves and tell the American people who Obama really is. Also I think the American people should educated themselves about Obama and his past. His past is always going to infulence his future. Also Biden who has been in congress for too many years should know whose fault it is for the trouble we are in today. They abosultely have know idea of the sacrifices that have been made by our parents and grandparents. I truly hope that McGain will not belabor the military experience any longer and that he will be bold and take a lesson from Shara and speak the truth to the American people. We can all accept the fact that we have all made mistakes in the past but now is the time to set the forward motion to clean up the mess. Thanks for letting me contribute

I am a photographer and would not take a photo like this. There is question and where there is question, I would not go there. Whoever took this photo is probably excited that their photo is out on the elite media. Most democrats, that I know, cannot stand Palin because she is a woman. To me, that is sexist. I gave Obama a chance to show his leadership skills and he failed big time. I am tired of the racist comments and that he is black. I am voting for McCain/Palin. Many democrats don't like her because she is a normal person, has great character, can handle criticism very well, is intelligent and can lead this country. Basically, many democrats don't like her because she is not a typical politician.

I have seen images similar to this before, not many but a few - mostly because the image itself is rather poor. Seriously, alot of you have some issues with blaming the media. Blaming the media implicitly expresses a feeling that Americans are too ignorant to research the facts themselves and are ready and willing to read the lines of their perspective parties. Also, how is it that only pictures of women can be sexist? There is something I do not quite understand.

Who is that guy anyway? I probabbly shouldn't say this but are we sure he wasn't a plant?? I sure hope not. Greta, tell Bill O'Reilly or maybe you can find him for us. Let's hear what he has to say. Either way I say the picture is terrible!!I live in Alaska & Sarah Palin is a wonderful person & the best Gov. we've ever had. People & especially the "Hollywood" crowd, who are mostly morons anyway, are just plain jealous. Her personality is something that more ought to have especially those that make decisions for us. I hope all of you vote those useless Dems out of office when the time comes. It kills me to listen how much people all hate her but yet they obviously can't get enough of her!! Two-faced for sure.

While I don't think it's a true sexist photo, it is in poor taste. I can't believe that in this messed up and chaotic time, people would be focusing on Palin's shoes or legs! Maybe, if the media was doing it's homework, more people would be concerned about character issues for Senator Obama. That's something people have forgotten about - character - remember we used to place importance on those issues. People are following this man blindly and it may be the biggest mistake they make, but this photographer must think Governor Palin's shoes are more important. Wow what substance!!!!!! Thanks to Fox for reporting the "whole" truth! MJB

I thought it was a rather clever shot, but I'm not a man. My husband immediately thought it was sexist and after reading comments by other viewers, I guess it is a man's head between her legs. I'm just one of those regular people Sarah always addresses and I'm not that deep to see some of the dirty tricks some people try to portray her as. I'm thrilled, I got my hands on a McCain/Paylin sign today and have it displayed proudly in front of my house. Maybe more viewers should let others know their feelings, it might be beneficial to the campaign. My stomach is in knots worried Obama might win.

These types of actions will just bring more voters to the Republican side; Especially the women voters! By the way... I would still agree that it is a sexist photo even if it was of Hillary's legs. Sarah is not the one protesting. I am! I have yet to see anyone photographing OBama's legs, Biden's or McCain's. I think this campaign should stay on track and quit acting like a complete 'jackass'. How would they like it if someone photographed them in their 'fruit of the looms' then took a poll?

Governor Sarah Palin is the definition of a strong, intelligent, caring and loving person. She has withstood the trash being thrown at her by those who think they are intelligent but those people only have two brain cells fighting each other and they haven't got that message yet.

Yes of course it is typical liberal sexism, What else would one expect? However, look at it this way, I would rather see a picture of a very beautiful Republican future V.P's legs, than to see the legs of a worn out old man's, (Senator Joe Biden's)

This is a first for 'one' photographer. This type of photo has never been presented in any other election. I feel that the photographer has lost sight of their responsibility, rather than 'getting the facts' The photographer is just satisfying their own curosity and in my opinion, should have photographed her 'face'. Now that would be in everyone's best interest. Shame on them for thinking they could have any character or pride to produce 'this' kind of work!

I am a registered democrat, but will vote for McCain/Palin in the fall. Because of the obvious corruption in both parties.. I am then changing to Independent status. Controlling the masses through fear and lies seems to be their agenda. I say it is time for the people to become independent in droves and pull their power right out from under them. I for one am doing this and would encourage everyone to join me. This is not a sporting event. This is our beloved country at stake.

We need to be careful of calling anything that makes a distinction between the sexes "sexist," which means discriminating on the basis of sex. I agree with Norm's comment that the photographer probably saw an interesting angle for a different picture of a political rally, but I also think a good argument can be made that the picture is in questionable taste (not "sexist") because the legs in the photograph are those of a prominent political figure. Without that element, the picture would simply be an interesting shot because of the unusual angle and the concentration showing on the face of the young man in the center.

Oct 9, 2008 10:36pm ET

Not necessarily sexist, but consisent with the campaign to marginalize Gov. Palin. The strategy is to marginalize her, frame her to be too common of folk and intellect to lead. Not just for this election but the future and to brand her in a way that's not credible when people hear about her. The tactics for this is to make her seem not qualified, not enough intelligence, all looks and no brain, speaks ackwardly or just all around goofy. This way the culture picks this up to not be cool to find her credible or qualifed, ever! Either party would do this to "take out" such a threat forever.

It's another outrageous attempt to smear, ridicule Governor Palin, a conservative who is a formidable thorn on the liberals' side. Obviously, Reuters is part of the leftist mainstream media who are in cahoot with their ultra liberal candidate - Obama and his sympathizers. For the job of the President and Commander in Chief, wouldn't the employer, all of us citizens, want to do a thorough background investigation on this unknown, sleak talker?

Oct 9, 2008 11:47pm ET

What that Ol' Sneaky FOX doesn't report: Sara... you got some splaining to do>>>http://paeditorsblog.blogspot.com/2008/10/palins-and-alaskan-independence-by.html<<< Sarah Palin is attacking Barack Obama for "pallng around with terrorists" twisting a New York Times story to falsely connect Obama with weather underground figure Bill Ayers. The Obama campaign has denounced this crude nonsense, but they should do more and do it now. Let me say that I have no sympathy and never had any for the anarcho-syndicalist craziness and bona fied infantile leftism, that Ayers and his associates represented nearly forty years or much interest in what he and his Bernadette Dohrn, are doing today in Chicago. But Sarah Palin has some real and documented connections to a political party in Alaska that goes far beyond even most of the far right of the Republican Party, a group called the "Alaska Independence Party." Given what this party represents today, as against the long gone Weather Underground of nearly forty years ago, this deserves to be an issue in the campaign. Party leaders have stated that she was a member before she was elected Mayor of Wasilla, which the McCain campaign has denied. Officially, records show that Palin was a registered Republican from 1982 to the present, six years before she married her husband Todd, British Petroleum supervisory employee, self employed fisherman, and snowmobile mobile racer. However, the Director of the Alaska Division of Elections has stated that Todd Palin was a registered member of the Alaska Independence Party from 1995 to 2002. Todd Palin, all sources agree, has played a significant role as a policy adviser to his wife's administration. Furthermore, while the McCain campaign has pooh poohed this. There is significant disagreement about Sarah Palin's attendance at Alaska Independence Party conventions before she became mayor of Wasilla. She did visit their convention when she was mayor of Wasilla, which the McCain workers belittle as a mere courtesy call. As Governor, she sent a video tape to the most recent 2008 convention telling the delegates to "keep up the good work" and calling their convention "inspiring." Keep up the good work of campaigning for a secession referendum from the U.S.? While mainstream media has portrayed this party as "fringe" and extremist, it is the third leading party in Alaska (albeit a small one in a small state) and has the kind of history which has led to separatist wars in other places, particularly across the Alaskan-Russian border in Chechnya, where groups like it, considered lunatic fringe, have taken advantage of economic and other crises to sow hatred and division and bring about wars. It is also an extreme rightwing party that whose leaders in recent years have broken from the Republicans because they see the Bush-Cheney Republicans as "too liberal" and religious and secular rightists as under the control of the Republican party. Its present leaders have both praised Sarah Palin and denounced John McCain. First a little history on the Alaska Independence Party. The Party was founded by an ultrarightist gold miner, Joe Vogler in the 1970s on an "anti-American" platform. Palin has denounced those abroad in oil rich countries who "hate America." Joe Vogler hated America. He said in the 1970s, "I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I have no use for America or her damned institutions." Later Vogler said that "the fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred of the U.S. government. And I won't be buried under their damn flag....when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home." He said this in an oral history interview at the University of Alaska in 1991, when Bill Ayers had become a respectable liberal in terms of what he was saying and doing. Two years later Vogler disappeared. A criminal subsequently confessed to murdering him in a conflict over the sale of plastic explosives (which suggest terrorism).

(Let's continue to read what that Ol' Sneaky FOX doesn't report) >>>The Alaska Independence Party, which today favors a referendum on whether Alaska should become an independent, a commonwealth like Puerto Rico, a state (they have never recognized the legitimacy of Alaskan statehood) or go back to its old territorial status, is still around and still pushing an ultra-right agenda to the right of the present Republican party. In 1992, the party ran Howard Phillips, for president. Phillips was a longtime ultra-right Republican from Massachusetts who had involved himself primarily in cold war issues, particularly support for anti-Communist guerrilla movements in Latin America and Africa. He was also a major organizational figure in bringing together secular and religious rightists in the 1970s, a founder of the rightist U.S. Taxpayers Part (later the Constitution Party) and other extreme right groups. He broke with the Republican party in the 1970s from the far right. In 2004, the Alaska Independence Party endorsed a Phillips protégée Michael Peroutka for president on a "Christian heritage platform" supporting an end to federal aid to education, home schooling and opposition to most federal policies as a matter of principle (including rightwing policies. The Alaska Independence Party is currently supporting Reverend Charles Baldwin, a rightwing minister and protégé of the late Jerry Fallwell who broke with Fallwell and the Republicans in 2000 because he considered the Bush-Cheney ticket too far to the left. Baldwin has regularly attacked Bush from the far right, was Peroutka's Vice Presidential running mate in 2004 and, according to press sources, believes in a wide variety of conspiracies (as do many Alaska Independence Party members) popular among militia groups concerning the "New World Order." The Weather Underground and the SDS for that matter haven't existed for decades. Rightwing militia groups at war with the U.S. government spouting philosophies which are at least similar to the Alaska Independence Party (which has not to this date advocated an armed uprising against the U.S. government) are around today and, of course, in the Oklahoma City bombing committed a a terrorist atrocity far greater than all of the combined acts of violence against public property and people which ultra-leftists committed in the 1960s and 1970s. Todd Palin was a registered member of the Alaska Independence Party until 2002, more than thirty years after SDS went out of existence and Bill Ayers went underground. When Bill Ayers went underground, Barack Obama was less than twelve years old. When Todd Palin was a member the Alaska Independence Party, Sarah Palin was the mother of his children. Bill Ayers hasn't been advocating the revolutionary doctrines associated with the weather underground for decades. Sarah Palin as Alaska's governor told the AIP to "keep up the good work" as they were about to nominate Reverend Baldwin, who sees "New World Order" conspiracies today for president. The Democrats should hit this issue and hit it hard. The mainstream rightwing media will certainly begin to shout Bill Ayers, neglecting to inform those who listen to them that Ayers is a VIP and in practice an establishment liberal in Obama's district, not a revolutionary agitator The Alaska Independence Party has a history which it has not repudiated and a commitment to policies that would be considered "anti-American" across the political spectrum, policies that have produced separatist wars in many parts of the world.

To take a picture is an unusual view making it interesting, the lags are not in focus their for not the center of interest, the guy in the picture is in focus their for making him the center of interest looking up at what I would conclude is Gov. Palin face he seems to be interested in G. Palin. Causes me to think she must be saying something he is agreeing with her. I think he would get an A for the picture if her were in school. This picture caught your attention and so it should. C Partlo

Gee, Gretta! you think! Respect is lost in this country. We will soon have to say bah-bye to our civil liberties if this well-polished- SOCIALIST -Ayers comrade associating- far left leaning - husband to a smooth talking closet-radical wife, is voted into office ... people need to wake up! On July 2nd Obama said he wanted to create a militia - arm citizens and recruit them into a new army! Will that be after he changes the Constitution and eliminate our right to bear arms. An aweful lot of lives were lost to create this country & we are going to let our COUNTRY die before our eyes w/in this short time America has been in existence, if Obama wins. I pray to God he doesn't.

Luckily the upper portion of the shoe heels is blurry. Otherwise we might be treated to a reflected image of the governor's underwear... Absolutely tawdry. I wish I had a better way to express my disgust than venting here. Will we also be seeing a picture of a young enraptured female, with pursed lips, juxtaposed with the crotch of the anointed one? No matter where we draw the line of decent/uncivil behaviour, there will be someone who complains about it. So, we might as well err on the side of decency.

That was easy

Ol'Sneaky lying Obama --- The reason FOX doesn't report on those things you made up is because they are lies. To report accurate facts of Obama's corrupt acts IS NOT AN ATTACK. It is, however, honest, factual reporting. Telling the truth about someone is not attacking them or negative campaigning, it is just being honest. I think the reason you are having such a hard time understanding honesty is because, as a Liberal, you have never tried honesty, therefore you you have no experience with truth. There ... that was pretty simple wasn't it?

I can't believe the awful things they are putting this woman through. This photo is demeaning and disgusting. I'v noticed Michele Obama always has her legs wide open when she stands- how come we don't see anything about that. Gov Palin is a warm, every day person. I guess Obama will stop at nothing. I don't understand why the American people are following him like sheep. Wake up America. I don't find him charismatic. I find him calculating. I want to know who and what is behind him. Its a scary situation. There shouldn't even be a question that he shouldn't even be a candidate.

Yes the photo was sexist, what ever happened to common decency & taking pride in your country ? The morality in America is .almost non- existant . The United States, and its citizens were made a laughing stock in the 90's when our leader's sexual urges got the best of him, and of there are some women in Washington that make a habit of preying on our weak leaders.

oh fuck off you stupid girls who cares about sexism... By the way did you know that Palin hunts moose!! Stupid bitch!!
