It will be very intersting to see what happens when Dement and Russels districts real estate taxes come up for review. I know that we in the 6th district have been hit hard when their @$%^#&** tax raise went into effect. Watch what happens ...........
I think taxes in St. Mary's County are high enough. I live on a private lot in Mechanicsville. I receive absolutely no service from the St. Mary's County Government, other than, which fortunately I've never needed, is the Sheriff's Dept. I just don't know where our money goes. We have a volunteer fire department, no public transportation - what do we get for our money? We have private wells and septics - so again no public service. Not to mention, I have no school age children - no use of the public school system. So please tell me, what are they using my tax money for?
bud,
I know Russell and I think Dement own property in the 2nd district, the one just reassessed. I own property there too and was hit very hard, even after protesting to the assessors. It is like walking into the twilight zone when you enter there.
Anyway, looked to see how hard Russell and Dement was hit and was unable to nail it down. Things came up and I forgot to follow up but will try and do that now.... My land, the dirt that makes up my property was assessed double in the past two assessment periods. I was asleep on the first (the notice was inadvertently filed away and was my fault for not protesting). However this one I did file a protest and it did me little good. We homeowners need to organize and fight the unfair property taxing scheme employed by the state of MD.
Ummm..... I'm getting pissed again.... gotta go...
