I hybridize--some items obviously lend themselves to daily(more frequent purchasing such as fruits & veges which are perishables). My motive behind bulk is to take advantage of quantiity discounts but, it is silly to stock up on stuff that has a slow velocity of use. The rule of thumb is to know your rate of usage. Simple is always better--you don't waste by disposing of unused items (a nice lean thought) and you don't have to buy storage to house all of the bulk (shelves, racks, etc.). Too many stock keeping units (SKU's) always seems to result in more storage, low use & waste. Stay "core" to what you use. Rather than owning lots of inferior items--buy durable and quality. This also improves the quality of life. Manage your ownership.
