Very funny - a few conservative websites are directing their readers here in an attempt to make it look like McCain "won". Every valid poll shows an overwhelming win for Obama and the networks (ALL of them) using undecided voters show a significant movement towards Obama from this debate.
John McCain could be a winner but not as long as he wants to build 45 new Nuclear power plants. We can't even find a way to safely get rid of the still active but spent Nuclear rods we now have.
McCain thinking seems so old to me. I just like the way Obama thinks, New.
Obama won this debate hands down. McCain was halting, stumbling and offered no real clear solution to any problems facing the nation. Never assume that someone can be called "my friend". Its presumptuous. His suggestion to clear the decks by buying up the mortgages has been considered in the last few weeks. The banks or mortgage originators do not even know where this debt resides as they are part of packaged securites that could be wrapped up in traunches and sold to a pension trust in East Yenemvelt Siberia for all we know. They cant untangle this web and that is part of the problem Interestingly enough Michael Moore (YES MICHAEL MOORE) made the same suggestion in his 10 point plan for a financial bail out. McCain need to get in one of his 13 cars and drive off to one of his 10 houses and call it a day. He is done
No doubt Obama is a smooth talker. He should be with his free Harvard Law School education. If you get past the smooth talk and listen to his words - he isn't believable. McCain is - especially to the more mature who see past the glitz. Every time a democratic president has been elected the economy takes a nose dive. I find that a scary proposition considering the world markets today.
It was a good back and forth but the key for me was the tone and childish anger that McCain showed last night. That solidifies that he would bring nothing but 4 more years of the same old same old to this country, I think we deserve better.
I wonder why Obama had to use such a significant % of his income to pay back his Harvard student loans if he got a "free Harvard law School education"? Until he received large royalties for his extremely successful books he was making huge monthly payments and these payments were still going on well into his career as a state legislator. He also was working full time during summers and breaks throughout his college enrollment. Funny how he had to do that when it was all "free", isn't it? Really - some people are so foolishly transparent. If you are going to tell lies please try to at least be mildly creative so that we have to break a slight sweat to prove they are complete BS. This kind of low grade dumbed down lie is just too easy.
"Every time a democratic president has been elected the economy takes a nose dive. I find that a scary proposition considering the world markets today." What world are you in...the US had MANY MANY great years staring in 1993, and lasting well past 2001. The current REPUBLICAN President, aka "JR" has driven this economy into the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. It will take decades to get out of this mess. If we elect McCain, al we are doing is electing Bush for a 3rd term as he will continue most of Bush's practices.
Once again John McCain demostrated that experience without sound judgement is useless. McCain is an old warhorse who should be put out to pasture. His idea of peace in the world is to shoot first and ask questions later. Let's isolate our enemies - let's not have direct contact with them by establishing preconditions which gives us what we want before we sit down at the table. There is no nation earth that would accept that condition. McCain is as dangerous as Bush who dragged us into a war in Iraq that should never have been fought.
most polls are conducted by liberal orginizations which have a clear biased agenda and there fore can not be credible
Good one Dave - - - You would fit in really well on the Colbert Report. He reports that the truth has a liberal bias (which is pretty much what you just wrote). I realize that the right is waging a war on science and that makes scientifically run polls very, very suspect in your minds, but come on now - - even FOX polls (the kind done randomly - not the ones where the rabid viewers write in all will) show Obama winning by a huge margin!
Get a grip - folks - you radical right winger neo cons throw words around like liberal and socialism- like you know what they mean. Conservatives have no bias? How rediculous that is..? If YOU were conducting the polls McCain would have won the debates without even showing up. Whenever-the "Press" prints the truth about McCain you dismiss it -like the McCain campaign never lies. Get real-you are as transparent as glass. Have A Nice Day.
Every time McCain said "I know how ..., I know how ..." I screamed at the TV: "Tell us, why don't you tell us how!" But all McCain did was say "I know how ..." over and over again, no detail, nothing even close. My husband kept telling me I was scaring the poor dog. Obama won simply because he was more thoughtful and detailed in his answers. I don't mean a., b., c., step-by-step detail, but overall an idea of how he likely could proceed. I was really floored when McCain said that after he was elected he'd convene a group of intelligent, expert people to sit around a table and come up with ideas how to fix things. That just proved to me that McCain doesn't have an idea or really a clue how to fix things. We can't afford that.
McCain fell on the sword last night. McCain was a like an old white rat with his tail between his legs......Sarah has to do all the lying and attacking for him because McCain is too weak and unable to debate Obama head on. McCain struggles to retain important facts and program details - like Palin, he immediately heads to the note pad at the start of the debate to jot down the party lines so he can recite them over & over & over again. If I hear "my friends" one more time I'll throw up. And then we hear all this ethnocentric bull shit over & over again - we're the greatest nation, if we work together we can do it, our people are the best, and blah, blah, blah. John - is there any content between your ears? McCain has 7 houses - one with 13 bedrooms and 15 1/2 bathrooms. Convince me he's worried about my home budget and lack of health care insurance. Hey John - how much damn health care do think I can get for $ 5,000 for my family of 4 - that's not enough to cover the common cold in this country. He's out of touch with the economics facing common American's. McCain is about as elite as they come.....thanks to wife Cindy's huge inheritance. In every industrialized western nation - except John McCain nation - health care is viewed as a human right - not a responsibility. It would be viewed as front page tragedy if a family in Switzerland, Germany, France, and etc... had to declare bankruptcy because of health costs. In the US, this scenario is played out daily by hundreds of people - and John McCain believes its our responsibility. The insurance carriers have fixed the market - the pharmaceutical firms are robbing us blind, and doctors and hospital fees are through the roof. I want the next President to be on the side of the people - for a change. That person is Barak Obama and his VP running mate Joe Biden.
Old people are useless and should be sitting in their rocking chairs on the front porch - they should not be running the country.
Jeff, you have got to be kidding....do you remember Jimmy Carter? He led this country into an economic nightmare during his administration. If you knew your history, you could trace today's financial problems to him and your other hero, Bill Clinton, both of them signed legislation setting the state for the Fannie and Freddie debacle.....all in the name of giving everyone the opportunity to buy into the American dream of home ownership. What it led to was predatory lending practices and people buying homes that were well beyond their means. All thanks to democrats who think that government is the way to go. yeah right....I think it was Thomas Jefferson that said, "A government big enough to give you everything you need, is a government big enough to take it all from you". Very prophetic words from one of our founding fathers!!
McCain does not have an original, new idea. He is living back in the dark ages. 72 years old is not that old, however, McCain is old. Barack Obama is ready to serve now.
What concerns me more than anything is if John McCain became incapacitated or passed away that Sarah Palin would become president. The only good news is that she knows where Russia is located. How comforting!
MARK, Actually I do know history and recall that when Clinton signed that bill, it had BIpartisan support, and was heavily supported by both Republicans & democrats. If the Bush administration felt it was so dangerous they had several years of a Republican Controlled Congress to repeal it, but chose not to do so, nobody hadany major concerns of the mortgage industry until the past 3 years and today whenn it ultimately collapsed.....George W BUSH is pathetic, and McCain will be more of the same...This country can't afford 4 more years of Bush policy...
