What Should Happen?

I was a manger for Savvi Formalwear for about a year. Savvi is the Ultimates Bride's partner and they are both owned by Ann Rafferty. I find this story very disturbing but not at all surprising. Ann Rafferty should not own a business. She was given the business as a "gift" from her rich daddy. She knows nothing about tuxes or dresses so the company is a huge mess. It is absoultely ridiculous that Ann and Richard Craig only offered this poor girl a $25 dollar refund. Regardless of if she took the dress home or not, it was the wrong dress and she should have been given a full refund. As a manger for Savvi I saw many problems like this, or worse. The quality of these tuxes are ridiculous. They are never washed. They put them in a dryer for a half hour and consider them "clean." I actually remember one time when I got a white tux sent to my store with a poop stain on the pants. About 70% off rentals are wrong. Either the wrong size coat is sent, or the coat is 2 sizes to small because the staff at savvi is not trained correctly. Almost every wedding party would complain because buttons would fall of the vest or coat during the ceremony (that was by far the most common thing that happened - I saw it happen atleast 5 times a week). Savvi actually expects the customer to pay for the vest afterwards because of "damages from the missing buttons." They make their customers pay for the companys mistake. On numerous occasions I haf wedding parties who would receive the wrong items. There was one time when the whole party was in blue but one groomsman was sent red. We could not refund him though because he did not try his tux on in the store, he tried it on at home instead because he was in a wheelchair and could not fit in our fitting rooms. Savvi and ultimate bride make many mistakes but do not want to take any responsibility for them. They have terrible service & products which they charge way to much for. So if you or anyone you know is getting married I recommend avoiding these two places all together.

I voted for the full refund, but she should also be compensated for being insulted by the staff. They intentionally replace the requested product with one that's hard to distinguish, and then they have the nerve to tell the bride that she wouldn't look good in that, making her cry and run out of the store. This is the BRIDE we're talking about here! They are extremely lucky that she is requesting a half refund and not going to small claims for the full amount plus emotional distress.

Of course they should refund the money. If they don't, this is one of the things small claims court is for.

That's a horrible story. A store could offer advice, but not make the decision for someone and expect them to pay for it. As someone getting married next year, I will be sure not to go to Ultimate Bride and I will be telling my friends this storry as well.

this is crazy ...its even ridicules that it has become a poll....so who ever didnt vote for a full refund is full of it...so you go buy a mercedes benz and once you pay for it they deliver a kia??? you would not want a full refund? same thing idiots

The store didn't deliver the dress the client ordered. That is total bait-and-switch.

The Bridal industry is a rip off. They are starting to make used car salesman look legitimate.

That's what small claims court is for.

She didn't get what she paid for. Who do these people think they are? $25 is an insult. I say if she does not get a full refund she should take them to small claims court.

Ok the store ordered another dress without her permission stating that the one she wanted "wouldn't work for someone her size". That is plan discrimination against someone because of size and I'm pretty sure illegal. has she pointed this out to them and gotten them charged?

  • Amy - 16 years ago

What the store did was illegal. She can get a full refund and then some if she goes to small claims court.

I agree. she paid for something and the store agreed to fulfill the terms of the purchase at the time of the transaction.

No question here. She should get a full refund. A store should not be able to order something completely different without first contacting the original buyer. The store should have contacted the buyer and voiced their concerns, but should never have ordered a different dress without her approval. That's deceptive and in my mind illegal. Let's say you went to the Toyota/Lexus dealer and you asked them to order a Lexus LS for you. You leave and go home excited about the car you're getting. The dealership then decides that you might not look good in the car and that it won't work for you, so they decide to give you a Toyota Corolla. Then when you come back, they give you a car that you didn't even order. What a nightmare!? I can't believe the bridal shop felt they could make that decision without first contacting the buyer. This is terrible.
