Why does this poll say that people can vote once "EACH DAY"? That is totally unfair. Moreover, when I attempted to vote a second time, on a subsequent day, just to see if the stated rules were correct and actually allowed multiple votes for the same candidate, my selection was rejected.
That was encouraging, in some respects, because multiple votes "each day", by the same individuals who had already voted, would unquestionably be unfair. Nevertheless, I worry about the basic integrity of this obviously "un-scientific" poll. Are multiple votes "each day" allowed for some candidates, but not for others?
Even more significant is the fact that the poll is not restricted to voters from Winchester and/or Stoneham, within the district. Someone like Mr. Lewis, who clearly has backing from so many liberal-agenda driven individuals, living outside of the district, is most likely to have an unfair advantage.
People from anywhere in the country are allowed to cast votes for any candidate in this poll without any restrictions or conditions. It is a survey that is completely unfair and unreliable. I believe it is an inappropriate poll to be conducted by any "legitimate" news organization.
SHAME ON YOU! LEARN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OBJECTIVE JOURNALISM AND PROPAGANDA!
Lighten up buddy. There was a mistake in the interpretation of Poll Daddy's anti-hacking rules. This voting system does in fact ban by cookie and IP address, not on a daily basis, but throughout the duration of the poll.
For those computer networks with revolving (ever-changing) IP addresses, however, there is a possibility that some folks may be able to cast more than one vote.
The reasoning for a poll like this is simple. Read the DISCLAIMER.
Each campaign is more than able to motivate their voters and cast votes. The rules for voting, and banning restrictions, are the same for each candidate.
This poll will never influence voters. It's not displayed in a polling place. It will, however, reflect the intent of all who vote.
Whichever candidate is able to stir up his base the most, and motivate them to go to this poll (as they will have to motivate those same voters to show up at the polls for the General Election) will win.
Whatever the results, Web polls have legitimate value. They're far from scientific, but they do measure the pulse of those taking the time to seek out the venue, and cast their votes.
Shame on you for being so quick to judge. Read the stories attached to this poll, and you will see the great strides that have been taken to dole out equal coverage in this race.
If any candidate is worried this poll will influence the election, then they have a lot more work to do. It will be a sad day, when an insignificant Web poll has the potential to shift the tides of any political race.
Polls like this have a place in digital journalism. But this poll can and will never replace solid news coverage.
To suggest otherwise is ridiculous.
Instead of whining about fairness, send the poll link to your like-minded friends, and get them to vote. Everyone has an equal opportunity here. In place of expensive polling techniques, out of reach for small newspapers like ours, this method will have to serve for now.
Two of the three candidates haven't had much difficulty in finding supporters to cast votes. Perhaps there's much more work that needs to be done by those camps whose votes are lacking.
