This vote does not represent much of anything. One doesn't have to live in the district to vote and even though we live in the digital age and there is an assumption that everyone is connected to the internet there are many voters in the district that do not have access to the internet to voice their opinion. Thus the people who are voting do not necessarily represent the will of the district, but it does represent the number of people the candidates can get to vote on this website.

So I have been glancing at this poll over the course of the evening and it is obvious that the Campos campaign is cheating, repeatedly voting from the same computers. There is no way that over the course of 15 minutes 200 more people are voting for Campos. Obviously this poll is the furthest thing from scientific, but it's still kind of sleazy what those Campos people are doing. Thankfully I live in D5 and can comfortably reelect Ross Mirkarimi without dealing with these GOP strategies.

@Joe Six Pack- I noticed that too, a huge jump in votes for Campos - several hundred over the last hour or so. Obviously, this isn't regular folks just now weighing in on this poll, but some sort of organized campaign to stuff the ballot box.

I think if people are concerned about dirty politics, they should probably refrain from making assumptions about various campaigns. Nobody was shocked when Mark Sanchez started out this morning with hundreds of votes above anyone else, or when Eric Quezada jumped from 20 votes to 120 in the course of about 40 minutes. And, it is entirely possible that Campos supporters came home from work and did all vote in the same hour.

It is clear that Joe Six Pack neglected to verify some details--such as the fact that the poll is set up such that one cannot vote multiple times from the same computer. I'm sure people from each campaign tried.

I agree that this may not be the most "scientific" of polls. However, let's put aside party politics and baseless hostility. Nobody knows what each campaign did (or did not do) in response to this online poll.

I am also not an eligible district 9 voter, but that doesn't mean I am neglecting to follow these elections. There is really no reason to make accusations about people we don't know and campaigns of which we are not a part. At least check the facts first. Talk about dirty politics--and you're not even running!

These comments are especially interesting because Mark's votes just jumped by 200 in the last 23 minutes. Haha. Apparently everyone is a cheater! Clearly this poll provides conclusive evidence of that fact.

srrsly. is anyone watching sanchez's votes? they have gone from 400something to 700something in a half hour.

That's Too Funny

That's so funny. Just saw Sanchez's numbers jump 200 in less than an hour. How about throwing some of those votes to Eva Royale or Undecided?

It seems like the only people leaving comments are people in fighting over the validity of this site. I wanted to make a plug for the issues at stake, with such critical elections hanging in the balance on a national level about the direction of what type of change we are heading towards, as the economy plunges and the environmental crisis looms above, I think housing and who gets to stay in the neighborhood and our city and country is critical to who will be voting on all other issues before us as a city. A progressive champion to push forward local issues and support organizing is what's important. I support having an organizer as a president and Eric Quezada for supervisor. I was displaced from district 9 and am now living in the Bayview (hoping to move back soon), but I know Eric is solid on his work on the eastern neighborhoods, housing issues and environmental justice.

2008-09-25 02:31:31 ET

Please don't use polls that are too easy rig. The rapid fluctuation in votes takes away all validity. Here's proof. Eva Royale has 8 votes right now. It's 11:31. she should have 50 in 10 minutes.

Being Boring
2008-09-25 02:35:44 ET

In order to vote multiple times, all you need to do is delete the history and cookies from you computer and vote multiple times. It's obvious that the Sanchez campaign is doing this as I type this message because they've jumped about 50 "votes" in about 10 minutes. This Bay Guardian poll has always been manipulated this way and it is, in a word, boring.

How sad you all are.

Let's get real. No one is cheating--everyone is sending out random emails to their friends urging them to log in and vote. Completely useless poll with no value.

One could better spend their time by going down to the Rent Board and discovering which one of these candidates pulled an OMI eviction on a long-term Mission resident when he himself had lived here just over a year.

Who is Eva Royale anyways?

And honestly as someone who knows how to hack and crack codes and shit, this is a joke.

I hope the Guardian does their homework in deciding who to endorse. Taking account which one of these candidates has the cleanest record towards tenants, and represents the solutions closest to the district (literally).

I'm hoping this might be the place for me to throw out some concerns I have a particular candidate, whose office happens to be 1. outside of the district,
2. is on record for having evicted tenants and 3. has no real plan for engaging organizations he claims don't work together. It's easy enough to throw out claims about the way in which organizations in the Mission dont' work well together, but what's your plan?

One of these candidates is opposed to the sanctuary city status, can you guess who it is? You'd be suprised about what lies just beneath the surface of some of these people.

OMG
2008-09-26 13:13:21 ET

Wow. Some of these comments are really interesting! I would really like to know which of these candidates is opposed to the sanctuary city status. I would also like to know which one is on record for having evicted tenants! These are serious issues and I think the voters need to know! Hell I want to know! Just put it out there and quote the source or just quote the source and I'll find out for myself. Thanks!

the Milk Clubs' debate is airing on the Axis Of Love Show Cable Channel 29 Wednesday Oct. 1 @ 10:30 pm with all 7 candidates participating. i realize that most of those who read this already have their minds made up for whom they are voting, myself included. i was able to review the debate (and two other d9 debates) repeatedly while editing them. with all due respect to the other candidates, David Campos had a broader perspective on every issue. see for yourself why the Democratic Party and the Milk Club endorse him.

2008-09-26 16:19:35 ET

Folks, relax: We know this isn't scientific. We know people can "cheat." That's the case with all online polls. But it is interesting to see who has the troops working. This doesn't tell you who's going to win, it's just a fun exercize, that's all.

really uncool
2008-09-26 17:40:54 ET

I just listened to the D9 candidates audio. Sanchez likes to present himself as a positive unifier and all that, but he brought a crowd of local names to the interview and let some of them go negative (very subtle strategy). Seems like the most flagrant stuff in the race so far and sure doesn't recommend him.

And really disappointed by Jane Kim's nastiness. The snide descriptions of Campos -- "but we're friends" -- are so bush league.

Hope the SFBG sees through the act.

Tim,

I think that your endorsement interviews are really annoying because (ESPECIALLY) you and your SFBG colleagues spend more time debating each other about irrelevant issues regarding San Francisco instead of truly interviewing the candidates and getting their opinions. I've only listened to parts of David Chiu's and John Avalos' interviews before I just zoned out or turned them off. The candidates just seem to sit there while you talk and talk and talk at a rapid-fire pace. Also, the recording is loud and clear when you talked but it was harder to hear the candidates. Was the microphone right next to you? Please do a better job next time.

I no longer live in the district (because of an owner move-in eviction) and still live in SF only by a lucky break. I'm biased in favor of Mark Sanchez because I'm a San Francisco teacher and I've watched the positive arc of his time on the school board. I've attended some school board meetings recently with Mark as president of the board. Simply put, he has helped unify and helped the board run smoothly. At the same time he has stayed true to every one of his progressive values.

Instead of sniping, I would be happy to read similar testimonials from the supporters of other candidates.

Just a couple of days ago this poll had about 5,000 people who participated and now that number is well over 40,000? C'mon, this poll is worthless. If a poll does pulls more people than the voter box, something is seriously wrong.

Pancho
2008-09-29 16:49:23 ET

This poll was at 47,000 at ten this morning. Now it's close to 53,000? I've never seen so much blatant fraud since Bush stole the first election. With phony polls like this, no wonder the San Francisco Bay Guardian has such a worthless reputation.

2008-09-29 19:14:59 ET

Not sure why you're blaming SFBG for the candidates' rigging the polls, Pancho -- as stated above, there's no way to stop it, and it's very revealing of the candidates, no? Especially those who are scared enough to vote for themselves 35000 times, heh.

2008-09-29 20:11:04 ET

Glad to see that all of the candidates have their vocal supporters. If you haven't decided who to vote for yet, meet the candidates, check out their literature, or watch one of their debates. But seriously, stop the complaining and sniping (especially when your particular candidate isn't in the lead). If this poll really bothers you, then stop looking at the results. Or mobilize support behind the candidate of your choice. You know, it really is as simple as that.

Instead of spending so much time on rigging this poll, people should be spending time doing precinct walking, making connections to community organizations, and actually talking to people in the district. It says a lot when you have to rig a poll to look like you have support.

We all know 58,807 people haven't voted. What this poll shows is the power of the Guardian in deciding D9 and the lengths campaigns will go to ensure their endorsement. Of course the campaigns got dirty, we, in the left, spend so much time throwing dirt at each other when we should have been helping the campaigns that are really in trouble and getting attacted by "real" enemies like Plan C. How will San Francisco look on Nov. 5th.? D9 is hardly the issue though it is also clear which candidate has a history with the community and which other one has a history of being a progressive legislator.

I hope the Guardian realizes the power of their endorsement and thinks long and hard about this. Trust the voices of people who have done good work and trust your instinct and think about the whole of the mission/bernal community. Who won't sell us out? Who has a clear and good history of voting the "left" way? Who will speak for the voiceless? Wo will do more to ensure a movement of change? Who will work best with the current Board? Who is most capable? Who is the right fit for our diverse community? Who has run a fair campaign free of negativity and falsehoods?

It is in your hands.

Well Mark, if you're running a statistical survey and your data has become corrupted and you let that data to continue to take on the guise of a valid survey, well then you're not using an objective method and your journalistic integrity, as I said before, is worthless. Washing your hands of this mess by saying "It's the candidates fault" really doesn't address why this tainted poll continues to gather votes. There has to be some responsibility by the poll takers to know that their data is corrupted and for the SFBG to turn a blind eye speaks volumes more than what it does say for the candidates. For starters, why would the SFBG want to mis-lead readers? Do they have anything to gain by one candidate being favored by a false poll? Is it in their interests to subvert other candidates? Those questions bother me a lot. They should bother you too.

2008-09-30 03:03:59 ET

Either that or someone had fun writing a program that votes in the poll.

The question is How many people have voter more than 1,000 times?

My best guess is four.

2008-09-30 18:03:46 ET

Campers,

I voted once. For Sanchez. Daly's running Quezada's campaign and in the slimiest fashion possible. Trust me, I've been 5 minutes away from knowledge of every decision. All he's going to do is to elect Campos who is a Louise Renne clone (appointed by her all the way up the ladder) and hand the Board presidency to Dufty. Know what? Chris doesn't care.

The Guardian? Redmond's been making a mess of their endorsements for years.

Lets concentrate on candidates "progressive" records

Remember the last Mayoral elections ?

When the "power exchange" dude's campaign staff maintained him at 68% obn the SFBG poll?

This is infantile and so friggin irresponsible, instead on concentrating on respective platforms of like, uh, for starters, misplacement, Mission gang Injunctions, Canning young Hindurenos into deportation to a sure death? Hello ?

2008-09-30 23:20:11 ET

Campers,

Hey 'boring'. Thanks for warning us cause you certainly are. Pay close attention and learn. This is all about personalities. Daly's. Redmond's.
Brugmann's. Mine. Yours. Nothing about values here.

really,

Daly's my boy 99% of the time.

On Sanchez?

He's acting like Karl Rove

Agreed. I think this race in the most important way will decide our board presidency and possibly our mayor. With Dufty, we can pack up our bags now. Here's the thing, pretty sure Campos, who has Dufty's endorsement, will push for him and we just can't have that. Between Sanchez and Quezada, I don't know. Daly or Mirkarimi as Board Pres?
