I agree that the time for public input for this particular case is the public hearing. But, there was an earlier public hearing to change the zoning text. The law did not require that adjoining land owners should be notified of that hearing. The opportunity for public input needs to be expanded for the entire process from beginning to end. If they want input at committees they need to change the requirements for notice of committee meetings. If they are looking for "dialogue" perhaps each board member could have his/her own website so they can explain their views on issues. It takes more work to make this happen but it enhances the democratic process. I'm a candidate for county board in Livingston County. I hope during my term we can make changes to facilitate public input but at the same time officials will need to be trained to deal with it. If you inform the public they will respond to it. Lack of information is what leads to conflict.
I believe more public comment should be encouraged rather than less to ensure the democratic process. Board Members in favor of this resolution need to remember whom they work for, the citizens of Woodford County. Too often, in my view, politicians (large & small) are too full of themselves and their abilities and disregard the input and will of the public they are sworn to represent. Lighten up Woodford County Board and keep the public comment sessions open. You might learn something and deliver better government to the people in the process.
