The state's legal drinking age is 21. Is it time to open up happy hour to anyone 18 and above?

I have been reading this debate on Syracuse.com for the last few weeks and finally think it is time to make a comment. I am a recent college graduate and was a part of the Residence Life team for two years. During my time in the department, I heard of a great number of underage students who were sneaking alcohol in to consume while under the age of 21. I can see both sides, development and rights granted at 18. I don't care for the comparisons being made to the 1980's and earlier because since that time new educational material has been distributed, DWI laws have become more tough, and time the way the material is presented has changed. If the age were to be lowered, I feel as though the materials should be changed as well as required health curriculum to place more emphasis on binge drinking. Also, it isn't that 18 yr olds are irresponsible but that sometimes life situations have not taught them any better.

I think that they should lower the drinking age to 18 and raise the driving age to 21. It is is alot easier to get a beer than it is to get a car. If the drinking age is lowered to 18, everyone can get their drunkeness out of the way before they get behind the wheel and kill themselves or others. If the drinking age is lowered and the driving age is not raised, I would hate to see how the death tool of our youth skyrockets.
