to bring final closure to this horrific incident the viewing audience needs to know the final disciplinary action that was taken against the individual police officers involved and their identity. A slap on the wrist will not be well recieved and may need to go to a higher level.
THE QUESTION OF THE DAY SHOULD NOT BE ABOUT WHAT OFFICERS ECU USES FROM THIS POINT FORWARD, IT SHOULD BE WHAT WILL BE THE CONSEQUENCES OF THE OFFENDING OFFICERS? I AM APPALLED BY THE VIDEO SHOWING THE INCIDENT. FANS WERE EXCITED. EVEN THOUGH THE RULE IS FOR NO TO BE ON THE FIELD, LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS SHOULD HAVE KNOWN FANS WOULD WANT TO GET TO THE PLAYERS. COOLER HEADS SHOULD HAVE PRVAILED. THE OFFICERS WERE NOT PHYSICALLY PROVOKED. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME. LAWSUIT, LAWSUIT, LAWSUIT.
Watching the video of the attack on innocent fans is sickening! Once again we see where the one person we are supposed to be able to trust...(the man in the uniform)....is NOT someone we can trust. Justice needs to be thorough and quick. These individuals should not be able to harm anyone else!! SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!! Police brutality is a real problem! Something needs to be done about it!!
A great ECU victory which should be celebrated by all eastern North Carolinians was over shadowed by the actions of a few over zealous law officers. Why would any officer believe tackling and beating a innocent avid ECU fan could have any affect to deter fans from rushing onto the field? Have these law enforcemant officers never seen the instantaneous joy of fans after a major victory for their favorite team. I am totally disappointed with actions following the game. Young energetic college students and fans don't get this opportunity very often. Seeing other officers stand by and watch such actions is also unbelievable. Maybe the police should police themselves when situations like this occur. There was no harm intended by anyone. So why did a few officers need to take action? I hope we have the opportunity to celebrate like this the remainder of the year without police intervention. GO PIRATES!!
Finally a good season is unfolding for ECU. It is a shame that the officers acted in such a matter. Maybe if no one shows up for the next home game something will be done. I have always believe that Greenville police focus to much on the college students when they should focus on the gang problem. College students are easy targets, as gangs members will shot your butt.I would like to know if the officers would have acted the same if the away team had rushed the field.
One may think that what they see is bad. But where is the entire video? What lead up to what you see? Parents start teaching your children some respect NOW!!!! Dont wait until they are drunk off their butts and cant control their own thoughts because of all the drugs and alcohol. Go ECU!!! Party School
College football fans have rushed the field for decades whenever their school wins a big game. You see it every year around the country as fans celebrate the initial win with the fellow classmates (other fans and players) and even the older, non-student fan base loves to see it. This is part of the college game, both football and basketball (think back to 2002 when ECU beat Marquette in basketball) .... The only harm that could be done is the field goal post being torn down and those had already been taken down. The other team was off the field. ECU and the Police force both should be ashamed. This was the biggest home win for ECU in the last 10 years, let the fans and students celebrate like everybody else does in this country, storming the field and get national attention for our program as being a school where students are passionate and loyal to their teams.
Listen folks the public has not seen all of the video. We have only seen the deputy but we do not know how the individual was resisting. It looks appalling you say but what about all of the students acting like a heard of beast over a ball game. they broke the rules. No law enforcement should not over react but do not pass judgement until all of the facts are in and even then take what the news media reports with a grain of salt. Truth is ignored in todays society and distortion seems to be in place of the truth. If you look the news media put the video in slow motion which makes it look worse than it was. For example if you spank your child in public anyone can call social services and have you arrested without knowing any of the facts. Also, let's let our officers stay out of stadiums and do what they were sworn in to do that is to uphold order and law. I am applled at some of the responses I am hearing on wnct from young folks declaring exccessive force when the investigation has even been completed.
ECU Fan, your comment is absolutely moronic. Any kids any the way will be trampled and older folks. Let's do something better, follow Skip's advice and tone everything down, after all it is only a football game.
I was in shock seeing the video. The police had no business beating that guy down. They were excited as well as they should have been and the police showed their brutality while other officers just watched or looked away. Cant ECU fans celebrate as others do without being mistreated.
I dont see where just local authorities will be at the game. How is THAT going to help security? Just because youre an officer of Pitt County assures us that there will be no poilce brutality? Get real folks!!
Danny is 100% correct. I’m sure that “beast” did something to disserve that barrage of punches. When all the facts come in and you don’t watch it in slow motion I’m sure like only half those punches landed on the kids head. The fact is you can’t believe the media; they lie all the time (I think its part of the conspiracy). The real crime is all those kids made it out to the field to celebrate. What were all those other officers doing? Why didn’t they grab members of the “herd” and begin to beat them down? I too am appalled (I’ll spell it correctly), I’m sure once the investigation it will be decided that the officer used the correct amount of force to subdue the obviously hardened criminal. I think this will be a lesson to the students of ECU, you break the rules the Police will break your face, class dismissed.
The videos do not sure what exactly the fans were doing to cause the reaction of the police. They could have been kicking, cursing, spitting or threating the police officers. If you remember, there has been fans injured and killed by overzealous fans tearing down the goalposts, which also results in major expense to the university. The police are there to protect everyone, and in the rush, people could have been trampled and injured. It seems everyone is ready to destroy the careers of these police officers without knowing the facts. The bottom line is, if the fans had done what they were told to do, which if to stay off the field, there would be no discussion here. The fans are at fault, plain and simple.
just haveing law enforcement agencies in PItt County is going to be the only ones ECU is going to be able to use because the chief of ECU POLICE threw every other agency under the bus when he stated that it was police brutality before he ever conducted a internal investigation...so it looks like the only agency that you are going to have at a home game is going to be ECU,Greenville and if you are lucky Pitt County Sheriff's officer might show up!!!!!!!! so when you have a problem that ECU cant handle at a game and you wonder why people got hurt its becuase YOU PEOPLE think that officers need to let students walk all over them and let the students do what they want!!! if anyhting ever happens again YOU PEOPLE will see why those officers done what they did and see why its such a BIG SAFETY ISSUE to let students to rush the field!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So from what I’m reading you people believe that there is something that you can do to a police officer that then makes it justifiable for him to tackle you, hold you down, and punch you in the face repeatedly. Please tell me what that is so I don’t accidently do it during a traffic stop or any other time. I don’t know what video you were watching but all I saw was a kid running past the officer before being grabbed from behind, resisting just a little, then being body slammed to the ground and pummeled in the face. If that was the right thing to do then why were there only three cops out of like 100 trying to STOP the fans?
As far as the fans rushing the field, fans have rushed the field FOREVER after a big win, look it up it happens ever were all the time. You might as well as them to keep the noise down or not tailgate before the game, it’s gonna happen. They took down the goal posts before the end of the game because they knew the fans would rush the field. What would you prefer the crowd break out into a quiet golf clap and then orderly file out of the stadium.
