Oprah's statement that she doesn't want to use her show as a platform is misguided. She's already endorsed a candidate and put her considerable popular opinion behind Obama. She should make a choice to either keep her opinion private (then her explanation would make sense) or give air to both sides of the conversation. Publicly supporting one side of the conversation and then saying that you won't interview the other side of the conversation goes to furthering the great divide in this country that keeps progress from happening. We'll only truely have progress when people of differing opinions can sit down together and have a civil discourse agreeing and disagreeing civily and choosing the best course to move forward.

Oprah sees all of the advantage an Obama presidency brings to her. It's first and always about Oprah. She can also ride the tide of the African-American success story that would surround it. Rather than being a fair and balanced true media person, Oprah will do what benefits her the most. But, that's her job...she's an entertainer, not a media person. It's better business for her to back Obama, even though "technically" she can claim she's not playing favorites by taking the current stance.

If Oprah were truly the proponent for women as she claims, she would have leapt to the chance to interview Gov. Palin. But, Oprah has made no secret of her support of Sen. Obama, and am certain the decision not to interview Gov. Palin is purely political, not to give the other side any "free publicity." Celebrities have the right, as all do, to make their own political choices, but when in the public eye with the influence they have, they should keep their choices their own, and not use their influence to influence others. oprah runs a good show but she is in the public spotlight and she should show that she is being fair and not overly supportive of obama. the only way to do this is to act unbiased and to reach out to interview both candidates. otherwise it looks like she wants to support obama based solely on the color of his skin. What she does in her private time, be it gardening or hosting an Obama fundraiser is her business. Sarah Palin was not the Republican candidate for Vice President when the Primaries began. Biden, McCain, and Obama have all been in the running since Day 1 of the Primaries, and NONE of them have been on her show let alone mentioned. You showed footage of Obama with Oprah and stated that it may have been well before he ran as a candidate and before she endorsed him. Would it not have made since for you to have been responsible and checked the date of that footage before including it in your piece? If it was prior, then it only misled your viewers. I'm sure they keyed in on the footage and not your comment. If the footage is after, then you have a valid point, and we have all learned something we needed to know. My ppoint though is that you need to practice responsible journalism.

I cannot patronize her magazine, TV, or XM programming in good conscience- not because she prefers Obama over McCain, but because she is clearly a hoax in what she has presented to we consumers of her products. Oprah is for OBAMA and will do anything to insure his election; there's no way that she will have Sarah Palin on her show before the election; she has already made it clear to everyone that she is extremely for OBAMA. Oprah knows that interviewing Sarah will only gather more support for the McCain/Palin ticket and she can't take the chance of taking any support away form Obama. But, Oprah has never claimed to be fair and balanced anyway so I'm not surprised.
I believe Oprah is splitting hairs. Because she had him on her show PRIOR to his official announcement Feb 10- - - she's hiding behind the "candidate" title NOW. Officially Obama IS a candidate. She gave him great exposure. It's a pretty weak arguement. I would have respected her decision more if she merely reminded people of her choice. You can't have it both ways and expect to APPEAR unbiased.
I don't watch Oprah. But I'd be surprised if she hasn't at least mentioned Obama on her show since endorsing him. Present or not, if she speaks of him at all on the show, then she is using the show as a platform for him. Regardless of who she is supporting, I think someone in her position should be fair and balanced.
Oprah's unabashed support of Obama has put her in the uncomfortable position of having to pass on Sarah Palin--Oprah can see how strong, intelligent and exciting this woman is and the exposure Governor Palin would enjoy on Oprah's show would undoubtedly hurt Obama's chances at winning the Whitehouse, something Oprah can't risk. They are afraid to find out that Gov. Sarah Palin is more qualified than Obama. They want a president that will agree to their personal interest not the interest of the whole country.
Given her media strength it would have been wise for Oprah to keep her political bias to herself. Any clear thinking American is not going to be swayed by some entertainment figure who believes their political opinions should matter to the rest of us. But Sarah Palin is a shining star and will do exceedingly well without the likes of Oprah Winfrey.

I am a little disappointed in Oprah, however it is her right to not have Sarah Palin on her show. I doubt "any" other talk show/news agency would jump at the chance to interview Governor Palin. Ophra would be betraying her allegiance to the Democratic party if she had Sarah on her show. She can't afford losing the support of her Democrat followers of her newly professed religion; she would be labeled as one supporting the enemy. I admire Oprah's accomplishments and charitable works. Though I have no way of knowing, I believe she is basically a decent person. But she's dead wrong on this matter. She is partisan and that's the sum of it. She will not interview Gov. Palin because that would legitimize and make relevant the opponent to Oprah's choice for the Presidency. Oprah is using her celebrity to endorse Obama, but won't use her show to give the American people (to whom she ultimately owes her success) the opportunity to see and hear both sides.
