What do you think is the biggest cause of the graffiti problem in our communities today?

Youths are more rebellious than ever before

Not enough police or punishment addressing the problem

Parents don’t supervise children like they should

Bad economic times raises all crime rates

The problem has been blown out of proportion

When I see graffiti many times I see some wonderful art potential and think of the lives and times of youth being wasted when they have this wonderful creative talent. Some graffiti does not depict artful talent but frustration with lives and the culture in which the creator(s) live. I wish sometimes someone could find the talent behind some of the graffiti and offer them a wonderful option of developing their talent for art. I agree it can encourage violence if it is targeted at that - like gangs, etc. And to do it and destroy personal property is wrong which sometimes is done just out of meanness.

The problem is that there aren't many alternative places just for teens to hang out in Independence. An under-21 club would be a place where young adults and teens could hang out, talk, play games, listen to music, maybe even dance! There could be a graffiti wall, where they would be allowed to tag it themselves. Just an idea!

anyway.... that's just my opinion!
