Perhaps we need to have a joint federation for the World Backgammon Tour. Points in one tour counts in another, but each part of the federation keeps a separate count also. The winner of the ABT may not qualify (play in enough tournaments) for the EUBT or the PanAsianBT. On the other hand, some sort of invitational final tournament of the different elements of the federation might be well worth watching and certainly worth a book or two.

When I think of America, I think of North America. When one considers that it is rather easy and not terribly distant or expensive for Americans and Canadians to travel across their borders I'll give a big YES to allowing one or two ABT events in Canada per year, provided they are in major cities so that they are easy for players from the US to get to. I don't believe that countries other than the US and Canada should be allowed to host ABT events, since much of the rest of our side of the Atlantic is more difficult and expensive to get to, and there's language barriers for some as others may have safety considerations. It certainly is wonderful and safe in much of the Caribbean, but not cheap or easy for all to get there, and I'll say no to Caribbean ABT events as I don't want this game to become more elitist. The ABT is American, so also NO to events in other hemispheres. Yes to an event or two a year in a major Canadian city, only .. neilkaz ..
