Should PR people vote in polls about their clients?

Yes, it's ok to do.

No, it's not a good idea or a fair thing to do.

It doesn't matter, polls are junk anyway. I probably shouldn't have even cast this vote; what does it all mean?

I worked in Tech PR for years, and I hated when PR staff voted for a client. It just doesn't seem right, and completely skews the results of a survey/poll. I can remember times when everyone in the office (125 of us) would get emails saying "The competitor's product/service/whatever is getting more votes than our client's, so we want EVERYONE to log in and cast a vote right now.

If you believe in your client and their offering, than it is certain okay and fair to vote for them in a poll. If you don't believe in them, you should not be voting for them or representing the client at all. Larger companies regularly enlist the help of their employees and anyone else they can muster up to secure votes, the little guy should be given the opportunity to secure votes, as well. Aren't we tired of the same large companies winning poll after poll just because they are large? Those large companies may not even have the best product offering. The overlooked up start may have a new, innovative approach that is much better.
