im currently in new zealand on a working holiday and for a country with a similar population to ours they have had a very sucessfull olympics mainly due to the fact the they have proper training facilities in place to give their athletes every chance and encouragement to succeed, where as some of our athletes have publicly come out and stated that the facilities are not in place or even exsist in our country.. we are in danger of being left behind when it comes to giving our athletes the best preparation and encouragment to succeed. im very proud of all our athletes who represent ireland at these and every games and well done to the three boys who are bringing back the medals... good luck tomorrow kenny egan..

I think we should be happy. Considering our national pride, reputation or international standing doesn't rest solely on our sporting success. We don't need to resort to propaganda or trivial sporting victories.... This may seem stuck up but when you look at the rest of the world ... we are one of the good countries. One olympics doesn't negate the crimes against humanity or the general crappyness of the Chineese state. Then considering our population, traditional sports and funding available there is no way we can compete. I'd rather watch hurling than hand ball or basketball. I'd rather have good roads and few running tracks than worse roads and plentiful running tracks. Well done to the boxers and everyone else who competed.
