Are Great Writers Taught or Born?

A gift is something you recieve from God. It doesn't mean that it doesn't need tending to, polished and perfected, but it's there to begin with. I vote "both".

You can be born with an undeveloped gift for writing, but unless you nurture and develop it, nothing will come of it. And the moreit's nurtured the greater it will become.

The point being that writing was in your heart but had to be developed. Babies don't write masterpieces but their gifts are given as they are knitted in the womb.

I've been writing since I was bu a wee lad. However, it all sucked! Not until I started to actually 'learn' the craft has my writing turned into something that someone would actually want to read.
I heard a story a while back that furthers the point. A group of tourists were going through a town in Great Britain happening upon a local to which someone asked, 'were any famous people born here?' He replied, 'no, only babies!'
