Hi, Luddites who think this is silly. I promise you that the McCain campaign has already signed up to receive their txt/email.

I have issues with this. 1. This is way too important an issue to be left to texting! 2. As was stated in a previous comment, lets hope this texting thing doesn't cause accidents with all these folks looking at their text at the same time. My first reaction was...Get real....grow up!
This will definitely alienate Senior Citizens who do not know how to use text message or have cell phones.

Although I would have liked the VP pick presented at the convention, I am going to trust Obama's judgement on this.
Can you picture John McCain trying to send out a text? He would have to have Cindy or a staff member turn the phone on for him...
What a joke McCain is.

Actually how many have text messages for their phones? Maybe all the young people and the elitis but not a good way to make the splash---we do not have the text message available.
Obama sending text messages like some silly teenager is symbolic of the vapidness of his candidacy.

I think that Senator Obama's idea to release his VP choice via text message and e-mail is a change, indeed. I look at it this way. Obama is a gracious man towards those who have fueled his campaign. And in his mind (and certainly in mine,) he wants to the people who have helped him to where he is today to know who his running mate will be. And trash him all you want, because I thank him for it.
What a joke he has become. Fortunately, America will vote him back into obscurity in November.
I'll text him "goodbye" on November 5th.

Text messaging—quite possibly the same way John Edwards plays father to Ms. Hunter's child.

Senator Obama is hip, we already know that. Senator Obama, having won the Democrat nomination, said that choosing his choice for Vice President was the first really big decision. Probably most would agree. To announce that decision by text messaging it to those who already support him would demean the process. Senator Obama should stick to announcing his decision in person accompanied by sending simultaneous text messages.

Although I receive and send TEXT messages, I know little about them. I appreciate that conventional news venues can make mistakes but for the most part, when I watch CNN / MSNBC, or read the NYT / LAT / WSJ, I know that I am getting info from these outlets. How would I know that the text message I am getting announcing OBAMA's VP choice is indeed from OBAMA? I could imagine getting any number of BOGUS Obama's VP choice announcements from 'who knows where'. I am not sure this is a good idea, but perhaps I do not understand TEXT messaging. As it is, Obama can always say he REGRETS making the announcement, that he was just jiving, or that he did not understand....
