Do you understand how to comply with the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool & Spa Safety Act?

There is alot of confusion on enforcement of the Act. I'm a pool service company that work's in Los Angeles County and the LA Health Deptpment has said that the state of Califorinia has to adopt the Act first. Which at this time Califorina hasn't. They have said that they will require the the new covers to be installed when you replaster or new construction. And they aren't going require the exisiting pools and spas to be retrofitted at this time. I'm still letting my commerical accounts know of the the new safty act and what they will need to do to comply. Terry

Ohio seems to be all fired up and has come out with a long list of requirements for ALL pools, including those (like mine) that uses the old style DE filter system that is GRAVITY fed. There is no danger of entrapment the way the system operates, but Ohio is requiring ALL pools meet the same requirements of systems that use a pump that DIRECTLY pulls the water through it's main drain. This is wrong and I am looking into legal action to clarify the federal bill at our state level. Is there a class lawsuit being organized? I am very concerned how most of the articles (written by pool professionals that sell this equipment) I have read are in support of this law with no questions about pools that are already safe (in this regard) and are now being unfairly punished. Also I am hearing that many of the smaller private swim clubs will not be able to afford the fix and will be shut down. I look forward to any and all comments from fellow pool professionals in this regard.
