Brad & Ang chose to give a tax write off, free, unsolicited, charitable donation. That is a wonderful thing, unlike when the government forces successful hard working tax payers to give welfare and food stamps to lazy, worthless, bums and parasites, by over taxing the successful hard working tax payers. A tax write off, free, unsolicited, charitable donation is the only kind of welfare that should EVER be given to anyone between the ages of 18 and 70 whom is physically sound, for any reason … EVER !!! The government NEEDS to stay out of the redistribution of your hard-earned money from you to the many, many, many, many Liberal, Democrat, bums and parasites.

Some magazine would have stolen the pictures anyway. The fact that they did it in a way to help charity is comendable.

If the magazine is willing to pay...and people are willing to buy it...good for all parties involved. Can you say "free enterprise."

Lynn
Aug 4, 2008 10:15pm ET

Why not, its a free market. If someone is willing to buy them they should be able to sell them. Giving the $$ to charity is commendable.

Aug 4, 2008 10:15pm ET

I personally do not think there is nothing wrong with them using their celebrity status in helping a good cause. I am sure some people will only disagree, because they do not understand what it is to walk in their shoes. $14,000,000.00 + Charity = Helping Others Thanks, Shabosco

It's a way to get large donation to charity and much appreciated. Brad and Angelina are very gerneous. I understand Jennifer Lopez and Mark kept the money (like they need it)

Go for it! Even the so called reputable magazines have turn to the papparazi to get their stories. These people can not move without their picture being taken. If they did not sell the photos they would have been stalked until someone got them. At least in this situation there is a greater good!

Yes this is wrong. If the money was truly going to charity they could have had the magazine donate it directly. All this is is a nice big tax write off for a very wealthy couple.

They are going to be followed anyway until the papparazzi gets their pix, so why shouldn't they control how and where and when their children are photographed and they get $14 mil for them??? I don't think there is anything wrong with that, the public is interested and they are incredibly charitable. It's just too bad that we are so obsessed with them and not more substantive news in society. But hey, I am guilty of being interested in something that is totally not my business. I wish them well.....they seem genuinely happy.

Sorry, I do not think pictures of those twins should cost anyone money. If the money is to go to charity, I believe the two parents should tell everyone just WHAT charity they are giving the money to. There are charities and then there are real charities and we deserve to know where all that money went.

Jenny
Aug 4, 2008 10:17pm ET

She got 14 million for Shiloh pics, she got 4 million for Pax's pictures in the hotel room, she got 4 million for pictures of Maddox and her staring out into the rice paddy, she got 6 million when her and Brad adn the kids were posed in the desert staring at a book. Of all that money they donated 8 million. So it looks like lips is keeping alittle tip for herself. If they were really donating the money, wouldn't they just have the check made out to the charity? She is fake beyond words and those who think she is this world healer needs to get their head examined.

Lin
Aug 4, 2008 10:17pm ET

Why shouldn't they be free to sell pictures of their children? Anyone who says they shouldn't is against free enterprise. There obviously a demand and the price reflects that demand. Additionally, it is very magnanimous of these parents to donate the funds to charity.

Whats the big deal about them having a baby. Millions are born each year! The media inflates these celebraties and they benefit out of it. That has Tax Right off written all over it. I wonder how many lives have been changed just because of we're able to see thier twins. Whoopy DOOOOOO!

I think Brad and Angelina are very generous, and also are loving parents to their children. I think it's commendable that they give the money to charity. They make the world a better place, and it's too bad there aren't more like them.

It is okay for them to sell the pictures of their children as long as this money goes to charity! What other movie stars would donate a large amount of money like that to charity? They always seem to the right thing- Look at the children that they have adopted and given a good home! And, just think of all that the $14 million could do for a charity in need! I think that what they do is GREAT!

They really need to get over themselves. My new granddaughter is adorable, but to sell her picture for money even for charity is just wrong. They obviously are way more vain than we are. I am sure they have a house full of nannies to take care of their $14 million dollar babies.

Some photographer is going to try to beat them to the punch, sneaking around and stalking them, so why not take the wind out of the papparazzi's sail and make a positive effort? I see them as giving without expectation of material return. I can't call that manipulative, can anyone else? Anytime we give, we are getting out of selfishness. There is NO WAY we can be selfish if we are giving to others without the expectations of something in return.

From what I understand, they are giving to a charity founded by themselves. So, in essence, they still control the money, don't they? Big Deal!

I don't think it's wrong that they are selling pictures of their children. I wish someone would buy pictures of my family! I also think it's wonderful that they are giving the money to charity, provided the charity is for a good cause. There is no doubt, however, that it is ridiculous that pictures of their family can bring such a high price tag! Are people really that interested? I know I'm not.

I don't see anything wrong with Brad and Angelina selling pictures of their twins...not only because the money is going to charity (great move on their part), but the press is going to hound them anyways because they know whoever can get that first picture also can get ALOT of money for it, and I seriously doubt they will be giving any of it to charity!

Florence
Aug 4, 2008 10:19pm ET

Regarless of where the money goes . . . It's wonderful to know that the money is going to a charity. If more people could give donations in hard economic times right now they would but many cannot do so you may want to consider looking at it as if they are donating on the behalf of all the poeople who would like to . . . BUT are not in the position economically to do so!!!

B & A are such giving individuals. Why let Tabloids get free pics and make all the profit. Why not collect the money they are willing to pay and give to a greater cause. The babies will appreciate the world that their parents are helping to make a better place. Its about time Hollywood does something good with all this profit the tabloids make and B&A have figured out a great way to do it. More power to them.

There has been so much hype about these newborns that if they didn't give media their pictures they would be putting the newborns in danger! The photogs would hound them to death until they got what they wanted. They were smart and generous to sell the photos and get the pressure off of themselves early on. This way it is a complete win/win - the children have time to spend with their parents, the media and fans get a first look, and the charities receive a huge donation.. Way to go Angelina and Brad and congratulations!

Hey, You know the photo's would have been taking and sold regardlee. However, At least the Jolie-Pitt's control that money and placew it in the hands of much needed charities. Hooray for them! When the kids grow up they can know and see what their pic's did!

Aug 4, 2008 10:20pm ET

Why not? What harm is it doing their babies? If they're donating it--more power to them. It's really none of our business--particularly as to what charity--it's not money coming out of OUR pockets, so what business is it of ours?

Carli
Aug 4, 2008 10:21pm ET

I think its okay because they are caring and giving the money to charity. But at the same time I think it is wrong because its like they are using their babies to make money but when I think twice, the money is going to charity so it makes since.

I know that Angelina and Brat are both very successful however, instead of selling their kids to the public why not give from their own pocket. If you or I were to sell pictures of our children we would all be looked at as bad parents, regardless of what we were doing with the proceeds. I agree with the above comments about the government giving our hard earned tax money to lazy people; the welfare program was established to help out during the depression to help those that were down on their luck, but has since turned into a way for the government to control people.

To all who are asking "what charities", I'm with you. Those two self-absorbed people have received millions and millions of dollars for pictures of all of their children, but no one knows what charities are receiving the monies. It's sad that they expose their children in such a manner.

WHile I agree that it is a good thing for charity, I have to state that I think that the way Brad and Angelina are held up as role models as the media doesis sickening. First, there are many parentts who have tried to conceive( myself included) who have to watch her pregnanacy rubbed in their faces. Second only a few years ago, she was very involved in self inflictiong woulnds. My imopression is that she has merely exchanged one obsession for another. And if they hae such phoilantropic hearts, why do they have to have $5,000 a night suites when they travel? Warrne BUffett still lives in the same moderate house he has had for many years. And what kind of a lifestyle is it for the kids? They are uprooted as much as many Army "brats", if not more. I am so tired of them being considered so glamorized. HAD THEY REALLY would have been philanthropic, they would hvae given the pcitures for free and still given $14 million to charity

If they didn't then someone else would..If a news media is stupid enough to pay that much then then why not even if they keep the money. Anyone want a picture of my kids for 14 million..how about 14 thousand...ok ok .. 14 hundred...maybe ahhhhhhh....14 dollars....

First they all had to have pet dogs. Then they all had to have human pets (babies) Then they all had to adopt a poor child from a 3rd world country. Now they all have to have twin human pets. Of course, they don't have to have husbands or wives. It seems they consider marriage a detrament to their careers. Then they have to have the oxymoron - 'Reality TV Shows' They use their children to make money They appear to be a pack of very well paid pimps and prostitutes.

How is it "commendable" to give other people's money to charity? They should donate their own earnings if they want charity credits. How is it "commendable" to participate in the selling of their children's privacy? If non-celebrities behaved this way, they would be condemned. We find their behaviour in this matter abominable. These "ends" do not justify their "means."

Brad & Ang donate thier money & their time, if they can get that much money for charity for decent, loving photos of thier twins & family, then why not. I would rather see photos in a respectable magazine of them that where shot professionally, instead of the paparazzi ones in tabloids!

if the public is so hungry for celebrity news, celebrities deserve to make the most of it. the real question should be "how ridiculous is it that anyone would pay such an exorbitant amount of money for those photos?"

Kathryn Byrd

What charities is the money going to? Jolie and Pitt's foundation which is helping many children all around the world. This is 14 million going to children. Brad and Angelina would be wrong not to sell the pics for that amount of money. I believe they saved lives by selling the pictures.

What charity is the money going to? I don't understand why they can't support more organizations in THIS country...I don't understand why they are on such pedestals?? It made me sick to see on the People website their twins headlines leading way ahead of Morgan Freeman's horrific car accident. People who glorify these two need their heads checked. Mothers and Fathers do what they do day in and day out and don't have the money and the help...do a news story on one of those millions.

Aug 4, 2008 10:46pm ET

No I don't think they or any person should sell photos to magazines of their children even if they donate the money to charity(another tax break). Since they have so much donate your own money. I think it is very generous and thoughtful to donate money, but why sell pictures of your children. Just take a picture and release it. No money just a picture to share your joy with your fans and others that wish you well.

HOW DO WE KNOW THEY DONATE ANY OF THE MONEY TO CHARITY? AND DOESN'T IT MAKE THE REST OF THEIR CHILDREN SEEM LIKE THEY ARE WORTH LESS? INCLUDING CHILDREN RIGHT HERE IN AMERICA.

I think it's great, how many of us can raise that kind of money for charity? If it's going to help many people, then who cares how? People WILL buy the magazines no matter what and as mentioned by somebody else here, the pics would have been stolen anyways. I say let them do whatever they can to help those who need it and fortunately, they have the opportunity to make that much. At least they arent' like other celebrities who have personally profited from ther newborn pics.

For those who ask why they don't donate there own money? The DO donate there own money just for starters, they recently gave money and there own time in Louisianna. They just donated $1M to children in Iraq, can YOU raise that type of money? Similar to a fundraiser and nobody gets hurt. Just because you don't like them, you can't condemn them for what they have done in so money for other countries. She is a UN ambassador, do you think her money isn't scrutinized in some way? They don't need that money, they are just taking advantage of a situation, in which they can help others.

GIVE: Hit the nail on the head. Obama is a socialist dufus who wants to redistribute the wealth from the working to NON-working. Those who want him in office are probably those same NON-WORKING = LIVE OFF THE GOVERNMENT = WHY WORK people. They will vote Obama, Mr. Muslim Man! His father figure was a communist, Frank Marshall Davis. Hard core communist. Obama mentions "Frank" no last name in his book. Now you all know who "Frank" is. He admires him too. When are all you Obama Lovers gonna get it?

Corrine
Aug 5, 2008 9:33pm ET

I'm not sure how I feel about this issue, BUT, those kids will be photographed by the media anyway. They hound these stars like crazy. You can't keep your kids inside a cocoon, soooo, I suppose to have the kids pictures taken by THEIR CHOICE instead of the MEDIA'S, and giving to charity...... maybe not so bad. You people know its going to happen. If they came to your city you'd be oohing and ahing too and taking pictures. Their justing beating the media to the punch. Remember, a lot of those pictures bring big money. That will cut those media nutty picture takers down to size. Good For Them. Maybe as I'm writing this, maybe it isn't such a bad idea!

HOW ABOUT ALL BABYS???
Aug 5, 2008 9:38pm ET

PATRICIA: Maybe you don't know, but they do more for children than LOTS of the hollywood crew does. Wonder how much you give to the kiddies? If you vote for Obama, well he believes in partial birth abortion. He even stated that if a child survives an abortion the mother should have a right to kill the child. So..................... if you question whether these people really will give the money to charity - let me say that I hope your vote is NOT for Obama. If we love babys, we must love them from start to finish. Hope you do!
