I am very disappointed that my country is participating in this event without a murmur of dissent on the official level. Doing so in the aftermath of the Chinese government's tacit approval of the butchery in Burma, and its outright cultural genocide by murder, torture, imprisonment, and every other imaginable atrocity against the people of Tibet is shameful. While we love the people of China, the horrific policies of its dictatorship should not be countenanced.
And this is the regime that is well on its way to burying us economically as well. I can't find a tree lopper or weed whacker to buy that is not made in China! Our full compliance with this travesty of the Olympic Code (Chinese sponsorship flies in the face of the IOC's stated policies and guidelines), without any protest, and president bush's sullying our image by attending the ceremonies is shameful to me. So i will not watch a second of the games; nor will i purchase a product advertised during their broadcast. Buy American! Let us boycott the sham. Will you?
Much more exciting to watch - eye-opening. The best Olympics coverage on TV in 40 years, especially on the CBC. China isn't going away. Better to understsand them.
People like Jim Suck. They try to make this a political issue, when in fact it's a matter of sports and the individuals participating. Look at the LA games. Damned fools.
The CBC rocked the socks off of any US broadcasting company (typical). My fav. part about their coverage was the ticker that let the audience know when the commercials ate almost over.
