This kid is a mess and while it's a great thing to help a kid in trouble, there are lots of kids in trouble. The message of helping a kid in trouble because he is going to help you win a National Championship is a very bad message. Further, this rap nonsense about guns and killing people is non-trivial. It is the product of a very sick mind and a sick society that encourages a segment of that society to promote violence and to honor pathological behavior. Quite simply, it is wrong. This young man is headed in the wrong direction and has learned nothing positive from his previous misdeeds. Can someone explain to me and redeeming reason to take a gun to school. There is none. Great decision and action by Bob Stoops.
I believe it was right to dismiss the kid. It will also be good for future signees to see that Stoops doesn't cater to the athlete and does what is right. I believe that something had to happen in the discussions with Josh to make Stoops change his mind. Maybe he didn't think it was all that wrong, just referring to the Halo game. But, to make such outlandish comments after bringing a LOADED gun to school, there really was no other way for Stoops to lean on this. We are not too far removed from the shooting at Va. Tech for this type of conduct to happen and Stoops has run a pretty tight ship. Ask Rhett Bomar. Stoops has always taken the high road and it is good for the integrity of the game and the university to let them know that no one player is more important than the team.
This young man is really lost right now and needs some spritual guidance. I think the Oklahoma staff did the right thing in dismissing this young man from the team. I would not want that type of influence around other student athletes. However we a see young man needing help and I hope that his parents will look for some type of intervention before Josh destroys his life. Everyone needs to stop worrying about his athletic ability and focus on making Josh a better person which will increase his quality of life. Josh your attitude is the little thing that makes the BIG DIFFERENCE.
