Although there has been no significant increase in cycle sales dua to the fuel price rises, we have seen a big rise in servicing/repairs carried out. Many people have been bringing old bikes out of the shed/garage to ride instead of buying new. Due to credit crunch perhaps?
I have to agree with previous comment of diggin' out the trusty old wreck n try and bring some life back into it, but NOT TOO serious i.e. try to keep the costs loooowwwww!! lol ;oP Never seen so many "Chicken-Chasers" as the kids call an auld-man's/ladie's bike getting brought upto scratch since the fuel carry on. But there is a lot of people hagglin' on the price of the "cheapies" but still expecting it to do the job of a bike that's the "Muttz Nutz" and costs 6 times the amount of the cheapie! lololol I think they should heed the name of my shop when it comes to the all singing, all dancing for peanuts price "On Yer' Bike!"
Interesting points, thanks. I had not considered that workshop repairs / servicing would perhaps be the biggest beneficiary of higher fuel prices.
I agree totally with the workshop thing. We have also noticed as well as workshop work increasing an increase in cycle to work scheme bike purchases. It will be interesting to see how many people think of 'getting on their bike' as a short term solution until they can afford to get back in the car. Or hopefully see it as a win win positive life style change and stay on their bike for good. Here's hoping.
