Is America Ready for Diesels?

I live in Europe; I've been driving a Diesel for 10 years... so what is so special about that? I gave up gas, to save money in the first instance, but the environment benefit is obvious in the world we live in today. By all means drive a hybrid, but whats the point of this when driving on the highway. I can get 45 to the gallon (UK, not US!) average however I drive; fast or frugal. A hybrid is only anygood in a traffic jam or at low speeds. You have to carry so much redundant weight around with batteries & motors; hybrids are a white elephant in my view. What does the average American motorist get? 35 Mpg? Its all very well talking about future fuels, electric cars and mass transit...but this is the stuff of tomorrow, as we have to invest and catch up with the future world....today; the best available now is diesel.....they aint dirty or smelly, the fuel is more readily available than ever before, you can't tell the difference between a well engineered diesel or gasoline car....the choice is simple.....you'll also be $50 a month better off. 60% of Europeans can't be that wrong....can they? If the US had been on the same page 7 years ago, Detroit might be in better shape too.

yes, but you're using a waste product! We definitely have a long way to go in terms of fueling our universe but this is a good interim step that reuses a product that would normally be turned into animal feed. MMMMMM, yummy reused oil! I don't eat meat but if I did, I certainly wouldn't want to eat animals that are fed with reused oil! Grosss! Let's start investing in mass transport though! We NEED reliable train systems that connect our communities!

DIESEL VEHICLES STILL REQUIRE PETROLEUM BASED PRODUCTS FOR THE MOST PART. IF YOU'RE USING USED FRENCH FRY OIL IT STILL TOOK A LOT OF DIESEL TO PRODUCE THE CROP FROM WHICH THE OIL WAS PRODUCED, AND RESTAURANTS ARE GOIG TO SOON START CHARGING FOR THEIR USED COOKING OIL.

THERE'S BETTER FUE4L ALTERNATIVES COMING DOWN THE TECHNOLOGY TURNPIKE AT A RAPID RATE. WHAT TOOK US SO LONG TO REINVENT THE WHEEL?
