What’s your biggest concern as a motorist?

People on cell phones, especially texting and driving scare the hell out of me. They continually slow down, speed up, slow down, speed up, drift towards one lane or the other. They are a definite hazzard to others.

First, the poll results add up to 101% due rounding of the percentages (for example, "Teen drivers" is actually 3.747% of 1121 votes, while "Senior drivers" is 6.244%).
Secondly, I agree that the distracted driver poses more risk than all others, because they are by far, less predictable. That's because I believe safe driving, in essence, boils down to accurately predicting what all other drivers will do and the formulating contingencies for when thing don't go as planned. Not only do these drivers make hard for others to plan, but they're doing no planning (I submit the train wreck in CA as evidence to support my theory). Factor that in with the mistakes the rest of us make when behind the wheel, and you understand the trend by governments across the country to control cell phone use in vehicles.

Distracted drivers scare me, but people that have no regard for anyone else out there are even worse. You know the ones...

(1) Speedsters and those who apparently don't have working turn signals: "It's a LAW, not a suggestion".

(2) the "The rules of the road don't apply to me" members: School zones and road construction signs are there for a reason. What if it was someone in your family or one of your kids being put at risk by some moron behind the wheel?

(3) Tailgaters: "It's not my fault you're late, stop putting my life at risk because you can't efficiently plan your schedule." Why do you ALWAYS get SOOOOOOO close to the back of my car? Did I just fart and you want to smell it? I was taught to obey the law, if you don't like it, go around.

(4) Roadhogs: "Excuse me, but I pay my taxes and I have just as much right to be on this road as you do". My father taught me to be a defensive driver, and he also taught me to have respect for others on the road. Would it hurt you to scoot over when it's clear so I can have room to merge? I always try to move over, what makes you so special that you don't have to?

Man, I miss the good old days and I'm only 42. I plan to retire to a place where the only mode of motorized transportation allowed is a golf cart or a wheelchair, then the road warriors can have it all to themselves...
