Although I do not live in Wilmington anymore, I do have a long history with this issue as a former member of the Wilmington School Committee and being very active in the passing of the bill to build the new middle school and public safety faclity.
Back about 15 years ago, there was a study conducted. The idea was that the town build a new high school and renovate the high school into the new middle school.
However the residents were against that idea. And now it seem that the issues are the same as they were back then. Wilmington NEEDS a new high school.
Those of us involved back then, knew that we needed a new high school and a new middle school. But the voters thought otherwise.
And I see that now the town wants to proceed with building a new high school.
It could have been done back then for half the cost of what it will probably cost now, and you would have the 2 schools that you need.
I am sure that your reimbursement rate from the state is not as high as it was back then.
I wish that the townspeople had listened to the study done back then. This will probabaly push many more, like myself, out of Wilmington, as it will become less affordable to many.
I will offer some advice. YOU NEED PARENTS to be involved...VERY INVOLVED. and take the time to talk to some that have been through this already like Judy Livermore, Jim Savage, Suzanne Clarkin, Julie DePiano and numerous others that did many, many hours of work on this.
I wish you all the best of luck, but just think of the millions of dollars that would have been saved if this was done back then........
and on a personal note, I miss Wilmington very, very much.
You can take the guy out of Wilmington, but you can NEVER take Wilmington out of the guy !!!
I am open to emails from anyone that would like any ideas / suggestions..you can email me at : judmillerjudmiller@yahoo.com
