I'm from Wisconsin and I DON'T CARE! He Quit! Let it go. I didn't think his record was in "reality" that darn great anyway. How long is the Brett thing going to be a poll question? Of course, I know there are many football lovers out there, but come on now. HE QUIT, Himself, His Choice. You try getting your job back after YOU quit. The guy makes millions throwing a ball around. WOW! Us meager human beings are lucky to make a living wage. How many can even afford going to a game without taking out a mortgage on your home. Instead of feeling sorry for him and wasting your life, he should be paying YOU for supporting him and having these rallies for his revival! He needs to leave it be. Mr. Favre should quit acting like a big baby. Probably male menopause. Happens to us women when we hit menopause and I suppose it happens to men. Maybe thats why all the whining from him is happening. Maybeeeee. He probably needs a testosterone shot and he'll go back into retirement to spend is millions of billions and be happy as a lark. Good Luck Mr. Favre. YOU QUIT NOW LIVE WITH IT!

@ WHO CARES. It's easy for you to say when you clearly don't appreciate him, the team, or the game in the same way others do. And don't make a big deal about being from Wisconsin, that doesn't make your commentary anymore worthwhile than anyone else's. I'm from Wisconsin too... so what? He's not being a baby; he's being man enough to say straight-out what he's thinking and feeling. Just because you're sick of hearing about him doesn't mean everyone is. The news doesn't revolve around your interests alone. Anyways. I want to see Brett Favre back with the Packers more than anything. This man is so down to earth and just like one of us that I'm going to miss seeing him every Sunday when he does hang up the cleats. Wherever he goes and whatever he does, I wish him and his family the best as I also do for the Green Bay Packers. Personally, I think that management needs to look at the fans and take it into consideration and the fans need to look at management and realize where they're coming from. Management isn't just shoving Brett away because he retired; they're also looking at what's best for the team. Just shows how many people love Brett so much that they'll do and say anything to get him back on the team.

Brett is a great player but I think less of him over this. He keeps doing the blubbering retirement announcement that leaves the team to make a decision. They then make the decision and then he wants to upset it all for his own selfish glory. Be a man favre. Honor your word

This story is getting w-a-a-a-y too much press. All parties should act like men: Meet face to face and work something out -- or not. Quit using text messages, the press, well placed leaks etc. . . to make your point. Be done Brett. Your legacy in GB has quickly tarnished.

Brett should be the starting qb for the Packers....he has more than earned that right and if anyone should be traded it should be Thompson. He has done nothing to help the team and if it wasnt for the innate talent of the players, the Packers would of not as done as well as they did last season. As for Rodgers, as he so succinctly put it in SI "he will have to get over it and keep his mouth shut"

I understand the Packers deciding for the long haul they want to move on but if they don't consider Brett Favre part of their plans in the next two years let the guy have his release and let hime play against the Packers. I understand not giving his release a business decision but I also would love Brette to come back in their own division and show them what a quarterback is all about.

So he changed his mind. Do what is right. Let him tryout for the QB position at GB. If he gets it, great. If he doesn't, he doesn't, and then do whatever should be, and would be done, on any other team, with a QB with his salary. Play straight with him as he has with the management.

Where should he start next season?? HIS COUCH!!!! Brett should remember the great season of last year and go out on a high note. He has escaped seriou sinjury all these years and should hang it up. Seriously, what are the odds he will start anywhere and have a season like last year? His odds of ijury continue to rise with age. I would love to see Brett Favre come back to Green Bay as a STARTER! I've been a Green Bay Packer fan, my entire life and was amazed by Favre since the start of his career in 1992. He helped turn the Packers into a winning franchise. He brought the Pack Back.

I have been following the stories and comments surrounding Brett Favre, and frankly, I'm appalled. Why aren't our children being warned about Brett in school? The following text regards my complaints of recent days against Brett and his subtle but oppressive attempts to paint people of different races and cultures as treacherous alien forces undermining the coherent national will. To deny this is to deny science, let alone the evidence of one's own powers of observation. That shouldn't surprise you when you consider that I want to thank him for his solutions. They give me an excellent opportunity to illustrate just how self-aggrandizing Brett can be. I had thought the world was free of rancorous ninnies. So imagine my surprise when I discovered that he wants to declare a national emergency, round up everyone who disagrees with him, and put them in concentration camps.

He should "start" on the couch in his living room. Stay retired!! Go out on top. I can't stand these athletes who retire, but then really don't retire. Do they need more attention? He was and is a great athlete, but it's time to step back and be with his family. I'm a big Packer fan (converted from a Bear fan no less!), but he should sit back and relax. Just my humble opinion.

TT has to go.......we continue to hear more and more about how Brett has been pushed into retirement. TT has ruined the best NFL team in the history of the sport. Why he is being kept around is beyond me. The Packers need to remeber why they are the best team in the NFL, they had Brett, and the fans. If TT remains on the same path as he is now, the Packers will lose both Brett and their fans!!! My sixteen year old son has been a Packer fan since birth, a Brett fan since birth and was interview last season after the Packers played the Panthers. It was our first Packers game.....it was wonderful. Don't let TT mess with our team!!!

BRETT CHANGED HIS MIND AND IF GREEN BAY DOESNT WANT HIM, YOUR RIGHT, LET HIM GO TO PURSUE THE REST OF HIS CAREER AS HE SEES FIT, NOT A COACH OR A GENERAL MANAGER/OWNER. BRETT WANTS TO PLAY, LET HIM PLAY. IF HE SUCKS, BENCH HIM. BUT LET HIM PLAY.

Brett should stop talking and ask for re-instatement. He should then show up at camp and just be Brett. He will automatically show that he should be the starting quarterback in Green Bay and no one else. It doesn't matter that he retired in March...he's changed his mind...he's a legend...he deserves to return to his old job, but he should get out on the field and show them he's still got it...they'll have to go with Brett, because he's better then Aaron Rodgers.

His character, his football acumen and his love for the game all harken back to the roots of the sport. Let him make his case by assisting a storied franchise back into prominence. I love Brett Favre. He deserves the chance to come back to the Packers. If it's a business decision, the decision should be to compete for the Super Bowl. Brett Favre gives us the best chance to do that. Michael Jordan came back and nobody made a fuss. They could have said we are training a new SG for the future, but no. The Packers need to figure it out or they will have a lot of upset fans! Jon from WI

There is no future for Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay as a starter. He should be Brett's back up this year and look for a trade. It is in his best interest, he will never be embraced fully by Packer fans. We want to see Brett finish his career in Green Bay... he's not ready to retire and Packer fans aren't ready to see him go. He is our best chance to win.

Brett should be given the chance to return to the team he brought back from ashes. He should've been given time to rest, to think and recoop - after all, he is 38. Instead, they treated him like poorly and rushed him into a decision he clearly felt he had to make. His raw emotions spoke the truth, HE WASN'T READY TO LEAVE GREEN BAY BEHIND HIM. Aaron Rodgers should be given a $Bonus to sit out for another year. He could be the hero here, if HE told GB he wanted to let Brett play another year. He has a whole career to watch and learn from one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history.

Mark Schliewe
7/16/2008 10:20:53 PM ET

I guess the real question to all this is how much money has Brett Farve made for the Packers. Maybe the Heads in the office should look at that. Don't let it end like this for him. He has giving so much to the Packers. Most quarterbacks last a couple of years and here he has lasted 17. Give him the opportunity to keep playing till the end in Green Bay.

Greg
7/16/2008 10:20:55 PM ET

Both sides will wait it out. The Packers will not trade him and he will not file for reinstatement. He will stay retired and Aaron Rogers will start the season. However, Brett will remain available until week six - so if Rogers gets hurt or fails, the door will be open for a Favre return. Unfortunately, if this happens, the season will be a disaster for both Favre and the Pack. Best for all if he stays retired - his trade value is limited given his age and the limited number of team who the Packers would deal with. And despite his recent statements, his enthusiasm for the game has to be questioned.

7/16/2008 10:20:57 PM ET

Hey! We'll gladly take Brett in Chicago! (but with that offensive line his career would not last too long). He would also have to coach the entire offense since the current BEARS do NOT understand offense!!!

I would love to see him on the end of the bench for the Greeen Bay Packers! The Packers should hold him to the contract and not trade nor release him. He looks more like a FOOL ever day. He wants this to be a "media circus".... I would love to see his interview after the first game (when Aaron Rogers has thrown 3 interceptions and the Packers have lost to the Vikings!!!) I live in Wisconsin..... but I am sick of this guy!!!!

Thanks so much Greta for showing your interview with my boyfriend, I mean Brett Favre. :) Sorry. I live in Wisconsin as well, and most people here cannot even imagine Brett playing for another team. It would be heartbreaking. He has been an incredible role model for young athletes and has made the long winters here bearable! He plays the game with all of his heart and soul and is respected and revered in this great state. It would be a huge mistake for the management to let him go or turn him away. I hope they can all sit down and resolve this quickly. We don't want to see Brett or the Packers suffer from this. Brett has had an incredible career here--he will always only be a Green Bay Packer.

7/16/2008 10:22:05 PM ET

Who cares??? I do!!! Brett Farve has given everything he could give for 17 years to the game of football (most especially the Green Bay Packers). He deserves much better than this! He may have told them and us the public that he was retiring, but we and also the management knew that he might change his mind. Obviously the FANS hoped that he would...while it seems the management may not have felt that way. Regardless he's one of the best quarterbacks ever, and if the Green Bay Packers really cared about the team and it's possibility to make it to the Superbowl (which I apparently THOUGHT was the goal they were shooting for) they would start the quarterback that offered them the greatest chance to achieve that. But they're so full of ego and pride, that they refused and it's THEM that turned this whole thing into a drama! When the best quarterback that ever played the game wants to continue to play for your team...you let him!

If Brett is a man of his word then he should stick to his decision. He should acknowledge that this first summer is hard and will be a transition. It was very obvious that his wife was exhausted and for her sake, stay at home and enjoy life. I don't think many people have said no to Brett and that makes this difficult. IT was also obvious that his heart was not in the last game of the season, I watched it from the 11th row and he was the last person to walk out to the field, he was not into it and did not appear to give 100%! It is time for him to retire.

I would like to see Brett become a Detroit Lion and go back to Green Bay kick there butts. The management has treated this man very shabby. I admire Brett for taking a stand, not everyone is in agreement with how he's speaking out. None of us can even imagine what he is really going through, I think he's trying to tell us how he feels right now. Our family is die hard Packer fans but 100% from Texas (spending Christmas Day in Lambeau Field a few years ago, the best family Christmas ever). I don't think there is a perfect answer to this, Brett's a Packer through and through. Our hearts go out to Aaron Rodgers, even though he is not a part of this, he is caught in the middle of this. Our family thinks a great alternative if he can't play for Green Bay is to see if Mike Sherman needs another coach for the Texas Aggies! That would be a great reunion. (yes, we are Aggies) Thanks Greta for sharing Brett's interview with us.

Isn't it ironic that so many people are down on Brett for retiring and then wanting to come back. How many other sports icons have retired and then decided to come back. No one got down on them like they are doing with Farve. Give the man a break. Haven't you every made a mistake? I allow myself one mistake a month are I am now at July 3087. Since the Packers are THROUGH with him, let him go on the market and play with whatever team picks him up. Best of luck Brett.

Bret should play for The Dolphins!!! People are really judgemental. He was a very great quarterback, and always there for his team. He played under very difficult situations, and played even when he was injured. Unlike some well-paid players that just play for the money. People just forget the spirit he had during alllllll the yrs. I from NJ an d was and still is a Giants fan, and now live in FL and have tried to stay a Dolphin's fan. Like I see, people are so fickle and never stand by anything or anyone

I'm NOT from Wisconsin, but I am from Illinois and I CARE. I've been a Packer fan for many many years and that wasn't easy in a house full of Bear fans. I would like to have Favre play for the Packers as long as he's able and wants to play. We've been through QB changes before and we've liked them all. But Favre has been a great player and his heart has always been with the Packers. I would rather he not play anywhere if he can't play with the Packers. I guess him just possessive.

Greta, I know you are from GB, but why are you pandering to Brett so much. He knew when he made his decision to retire what the rules were and now he is crying because he can't have his way and make is own choice and leave GB high and dry with nothing in return after they already lost him "because he just really wanted to retire". They have already espoused their new quarterback and it would be extremely rude at this point to say "Gee, I'm sorry, but Brett wants to come back, so you'll have to wait because he, you know, was our hero for so long. I don't get it! Why would any team not want te best team on the field at every position. The Packers have an opportunity to win it all but they are committed to an unproven QB???????Who drank what Kool-aid supplied by the rookie QB. Rogers is a great young talent, but Brett is a proven winner. His experiance alone at 50%, is superior to the majority of NFL QB's. Let him play...let him lead. If he has changed his mind, Thank God!

Bridget
7/16/2008 10:28:25 PM ET

I want to know how Brett must have felt when he was telling the Packers that he wasn't sure he wanted to retire and they responded by ripping his locker out of the locker room and sent it to him on a truck! Show the guy a little respect. Ted Thompson has a huge ego and personally I don't think he can back it up with anything he has accomplished so far. Brett is by far the best option for the Pack. He has given so much to the team! Obviously he is a big enough threat that Ted doesn't want to face him on an opposing team. Why then, is he not good enough to start for the Pack! Go Brett! I have always been a Packer Fan, but I would never bet against Brett Favre when he is determined to prove something. Bring him back and he will prove himself over and over again.

Tom B.
7/16/2008 10:28:25 PM ET

I see the anti Favre people are out big time tonight. Remember there are 31 other teams in the league. So there should be a lot more people says quit. Ted wanted Brett out from day one. He is not the first guy to come back. It's not Brett's fault Ted drafted a QB way too soon. When people compare Brett to Montana or Marino or Nameth they forget one thing. They all had very bad injuries and were not a ghost of their good days. Oh by the way none of them were probowlers the year before they left. And none of them had MVP votes the year they were pushed out the door. Ted, Mike, Bob and Mark. We don't forget, we don't forget.

Every fan watching a football game has an opinion. Emotions rarely make for good decisions, and when expressed in an opinion poll should be fodder over a beer at the local sports bar. Just think it over, Green Bay could find itself not just a touch down away from a bowl game. It could find itself with a 50/50 record after dissing Brett. This guy is showing his definite lack of class.....in SIXTEEN years they had a meager record overall.....a few good years but for the most part it was just So-So.....he should just go back to Mississippi and ride around on his tractor.... that's his true vocation and probably his ability would be stretched to even do that. Dear Who Cares, I think your name speaks to what everyone says about your opinion. Who cares what you think. His record isn't in "reality" all that big of a deal? Are you insane? That man owns every major record for an NFL quarterback. That is a big deal. He is the best quarterback in the history of the NFL possibly one of the best players to ever touch a football field. Not only is he the greatest quarterback in NFL history but he loves the game like he is a little kid. He plays the game like it's a backyard football. He deserves the coverage that he is getting because he is the best. So Who Cares, the best reply to your statement is who cares what you have to say? You obviously know nothing about the most popular sport in the NFL.

If Brett Favre is a YoYo, then Ted Thompson and company are the string. Look at what the man has been through and preservered and the Packers are shoving him out of the picture. Thompson was the eraser when he took over. Favre was a long term removal project. He needed to tire him out and get him to retire so he could move on with Rodgers. Thompson needs to admit Favre wasn't part of his overall plans and take his lumps. He's got a messy PR nightmare on his hands as it is. Favre needs to play or be released and they need to bring this to a quick end. Also, filing tampering charges just tells me they are more interested in forcing people into silence rather that reach a peaceful resolution.

This is rediculous. For a topic that should be left on ESPN, why is a news network doing a three part interview with an athalete? It's simply amazing that we have things like the war, the economy, and the election (just to name a few things) going on, and we're talking about some old man crying and looking for another shot at something he's failed to accomplish since 98. On the topic, why would the Packers want him back? He's only won three of th elast ten playoff games he's been since the last time he went to a super bowl, and nobody seems to aknowledge the fact he went hunting the morning before the NFC Championship game (doesn't show a lot of commitment with that act). There is a morning show here in Milwaukee (Kramp and Adler, FM 102.1) that put it best. Favre is that hot girlfriend that you dated back in high school that broke up with you, and suddenly like a year later you get a text asking if you want to get back together. It's a tad sad.

Thank you Greta for covering Brett's story! The Packers will never be the same without Favre. No matter the outcome, Brett Favre will always be a HERO in my eyes...not just for his legendary performance, but for all he's been through with his family. He has shown America he's human...not super human like some athletes think they are! This Green Bay Packer fan would love to have Brett back!

Brett needs to be happy. Saying such, he needs to be riding his tractor in sumral, Ms. (Home of his 465 acre estate)

Gretta, I thought you said we could choose one from your team list or add our own. I don't see a place for other, but I would like to see Brett in his living room, this coming season.

For three years we've had the end of the season Brett saga. He quit. I'm sick of the whole thing and want the Packers to move forward without him. I don't care where he plays as long as it isn't Green Bay!

O.K. so now we hear the truth about what a jerk Ted Thompson has been and what an ego he has. Teddy old boy is the reason for all of this mess. The Board of Directors need to step i since we don't have an owner and fire Thompson and bring back Farve! Farve has given much more to this organization than Thompon. Thompson failed in past organizations....

You retired. Move on. You should not have been so hasty in your decision. If you want to come back now, hold the clipboard and still get $12 million, and be prepared for the opportunity to play if or when it comes up.

I love Brett Favre, and I have lived thru Brett's "Legacy" . Unfortunately, I am losing respect for him. He is digging himself into a hole by going public with his "gripes." He should be a professional and act in a professional manner and meet with the Packers behind closed doors and resolve his issues. I have yet to see the Packers organization publicly complain about Brett's behavior. Who is the professional here?

Ted Thompson needs to go! Brett wouldn't be making a fuss if he was told the truth. The Packers are built on integrity and it's sad to hear what Ted has created. It would be sad to see Brett play for another team after what he has brought to Green Bay. I do realize that he needs to stop changing his mind; however, don't we all change our minds? Bring Brett back!!

I'm a life long Packer fan and I'm fed up with Farve! He's as bad as a waffling politician. I think he should have been gone. For those of you who continue to declare that he's given so much.....he gets paid to give just like the other members of the team. It's time to give someone else a chance at going all the way. I'm not even sure I'd want him as a backup now that he's caused bad blood. Retire, play, retire, play. Reminds me of all of those interceptions thrown due to indecisiveness. Bye, bye Bret!!!!
