Why wasn't "Do nothing" an option? It's OK with me if they bring him back but he shouldn't start -- he retired -- and it doesn't make good business sense to let him go play somewhere else.

Brett Farve has done for football what I believe no one else ever will. Give the champ a break and bring him back as starting quarterback. He deserves it as do his fans and GreenBay, and not to forget football in general.

We love him and would welcome him back w/open arms. I beleive that Brett is telling the truth. I think the Packers are telling the truth, only maybe not the WHOLE truth. But I will say no matter what--Brett's "legacy" will never be tarnished in our eyes. He is the best the Packers have ever had as a quaterback and a man. Take Care Brett--we hope to see you again soon. Love to your family as well. This can not be easy for all of them either!

Brett is a great quarterback and a great teamate, He should stay in green bay. The organization is slappin him in the face with the backup talk to rogers. I became a green bay fan because of him. If he is released! I hope the Carolina Panthers pick him up. He would be a great addition to the team. seeing how delhomme is injury prone.

He has the national media so hoodwinked including you Gretta. I know you are a Wisconsin Lady, but Brett really has you fooled. What was Thompson supposed to do? We go thru this baloney every year lately with Brett. We need a quarterback who wants to commit...not worry about if the General Manager wants to kiss his butt every year. He was a great Quarterback and played hard. I appreciate that. But he has really turned into a State Diva. I dont care if he goes to the Vikings, Bears..whatever. I wish him luck. the Packers are a team. Favre is an individual. Team comes first every single time.

If indeed the Packers have moved on, then out of respect for what Favre has given them over the years, they should allow his release. The man has given his all to that team for years and as a future first ballot Hall of Famer, he has earned the right to pick the team he plays for, if it cannot be the Packers.

Brett didn't do everything right. However it is Brett Favre. I have watched the Packers since 1958. People have forgotten what it was like in Green Bay before Brett and after Bart. Ted Thompson needs to reverse his position or hit the road. Can you picture Green Bay Fans cheering for Brett in another uniform. I guarantee you it would happen if Ted trades him.

There is absolutely no negative reason why the Packers should not bring back Brett Farve. He still gives the Packers the best chance of winning. Are they worried about Aaron Rogers feelings...or anyone's feelings? Their will always be an Aaron Rogers but their will never be another Brett Farve. Bringing him back would not only help the Packers win a Super Bowl, but think what it would do for the NFL, the whole football world and the entire marketing world.

From a management and a professional perspective it only makes sense to put Brett on the field as the lead quaterback. As the season progresses, management has the option of moving both quarterbacks in and out if necessary, and at the same time, if the situation permits, to standup number 2, with the best backup you can get waiting to come in an save the game.

Enough already - Packer management, welcome Brett back with open arms. So he retired. We all knew it was an emotional decision after an emotional season. Look at what his legacy has done for the Packers. Look at how he handled his father's passing, his wifes illness and the other losses he experienced over the past two years. What a said recognition of the commitment he has shown to the Packer organization and to the Packer fans. Check your ego at the door TT and call a press conference showing your solidarity.

Greta, Your interview was the best I've seen in years, great questions... How much worse could Bret do at his worst than Aaron Rodgers at his best....give bret 8 games and then make a decision, if he does poorly put in Aaron Rodgers, he'll have nothing to lose, fans, teammates and the press will all be behind him, if bret does well it will make the. coaches will look brilliant, Bret may actually gain momentum and quite possibly make them playoff contenders. Can you actually see Bret pumping both fists in the air, running down the field, after trowing a touchdown in any jersey other than a packers...

Bring him back as starting quarterback. He's a 3 time MVP. He deserves to come back and after last year we would be foolish not to take advantage of his quarterback and leadership skills. Take Brett as # 1and give Aaron more playing time this year to see if he can withstand game play without getting hurt.

Please retire and go out with the knowledge that you were one of the best quarterbacks to play the game. Is your ego to big to not go back and compete with Aron Rogers? I saw the Dallas game last year, and He almost brought the team back. Brett, you looked old in the playoff game against the Giants. It's a game that you should have won, because player for player, Green Bay was the superior team. You have records that will stand for along time. Put you ego aside and let Mr Rogers have his day. Are the Packer's nuts?, This is a Hall of Fame Player who had one of his best years last year. His 38 year old body was worn out after last year's season. Forcing him to make a decision before camp is understandable. Bring him to camp and let the other QB's compete with Brett. If he proves himself as the team's best QB at the start of the season, he should be the starting QB until he pulls the plug or an injury knocks him out of the game. I was born and raised in Wisconsin. I grew up watching Bart Starr. Never thought anyone could top him, but Brett has amased an impressive record. They are both quality players and quality guys you can respect. I hope the Packers make the right choice this coming season as I don't think the Rams or Kansas City are going to be my team this year.

I cannot even begin to fathom why the Packers Management team would not want Brett as the starting quarterback. He is a 3-time MVP and future hall-of-famer and still has the desire and skill to play the game at the highest level. Ted Thompson should apologize to Favre and the fans and give our team the best possible shot at the Super Bowl - PLAY BRETT! Now, Brett - you need to make up your mind once and for all. You have 3 years left on your contract. Are you willing to fulfill that contract and give us 3 years? We are tired of your yearly retirement dance. Either play for 3 years or don't play at all. Brett Favre should definitely be the starting quarterback. I watched Favre turn the team around since he first arrived in Green Bay in 1992. I remember very well the Packers of the eighties and Favre transformed the team into a winning dynasty. Green Bay's front office should be rolling out the red carpet, welcoming him back. The idea of Favre competing for his old spot back is a huge insult, as he has proven himself time and time again. From a fan's standpoint, Rodgers has not done that yet. Favre is a hard worker and a man of integrity.

Brett Favre has done great things for the Packers and Green bay and it is ridiculous how quickly some people trade on a person. Ted Thompson is being egocentric jerk as usual. He only is trying to control the team and put the players out on the field that he drafted. The man needs to realize his job is to put a championship team on the field and that team has a much better chance with Brett Favre in the driver seat then Aaron Rodgers.

Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy we release you.You have disrespected Favre, slapped the faces of the fans and given the whole Packer organization a big black eye. Shame on you.

Brett is my Hero. He is a true player. He plays with the smarts of veteran, heart of a child and arm of a cannon! Can't imagine Packer football any other way!! Thompson & Mcarthy need to go hat in hand to Brett and make things as right as possible. Rodgers needs to be ready to play behind Brett. I know it's tough deal - but he can't win the spot outright. WE the Packers need to get on with getting back to the playoffs. Let's move on with Brett. No Circus - I hope it's not too late. So should Thompson and McCarthy - Fire Murphy now - He cancelled out of a public appearance because of an illness in the family - ya right. Packers derserve a CEO with some independent thought and guts.

Anyone who has spent the last 16 years entertaining true packer fans deserves to come back as the starter and Rodgers can ride the pine for another year. Rodgers should step aside

As the facts change, so should your opinion. Ted Thompson should announce that his decision to move on with Aaron Rodgers was based on the facts he knew at the time and his opinion that Rodgers was the best available option. Now that the facts have changed, Thompson should say sorry to Rodgers, trade him (he has more value to some teams than the aging Favre) and accept Favre's wish to remain the starting QB. Brian Brohm can be groomed to be Favre's replacement and take over in two years. Rodgers, who has not exactly endeared himself to Packer fans in his short stint as leader of the team, will be the only loss in the equation.

Even though this has become a media circus, the fact remains Brett is a proven winner..he should not have to "compete" for the starter position.. he made a hasty decision to retire - for all he is and has given Packer fans and the state of Wi, bring him back and let him take the team to the Super Boel...don't think "Mr. I am Hurt Again Rodgers" will ever do what Brett has done...I don't agree with all Brett has done either the past few weeks but the guy says he wants to play so bring him back and make the fans happy...Wisconsin still loves Brett Favre so stop the madness and let him play

Ted Tompson is just being stuck up and is wanting his golden boy Rodgers... and it's not Arron's fault. Brett is the greatest quaterback I've ever seen and is worthy of the starting spot over Rodgers. Brett is overall better than him and is can not be replaced. He deserves to be the Quaterback in Green Bay and is the only one that should start until he really retires. Brett has given the mangement so much and has also given the orginaization even more. He plays for the fun and the competition of the game. If Brett were to be traded and or sign with another team I would become a fan of that team. Brett should be allowed to comeback as the starter and there should be no wavering in the tought that he should not be a backup to Rodgers. He should start. Him wanting to come back should be warmly welcomed by Ted and Mike but, if Bretts indeicision is whats keeping him from starting I think Ted should resign.

Mike
Jul 15, 2008 10:26pm ET

I admire Brett. BUT, I understand the Packer's organization had to make a decision prior to the Draft and free agency and Brett made a decision at that time. I want to see Brett play in GB ultimately but what would any of us do differently if we were in the GM position? Keep the team in limbo like Strahan did last season? If I was in the GM position, I would have the same plan. Tough to put Brett on the bench or trade him but releasing him would not be an option, too much value to lose there when he is under a contract. This is very unfortunate for Brett and the Packer Nation. The GM is in a bad spot and might want to consider a 2nd home in a non-extradition country. I hope that if Brett truely wants to play, which seems to be the case, I hope that he does on his terms. Good luck Brett, I am pulling for you ! Mike - Columbia, SC

Are you kidding me. Be a back up QB after all he has brought to this team. Yes he always seems to wait and make the team wait for an answer, but he is one of the greatest players to play the game of football. He is The Packers. Let this man play the game he loves so much. He needs to be the starting QB of the Green Bay Packers.

Brett, you need to stay at Green Bay, even if it means swallowing your pride for the time being. We want you here, and if you stick with it it's just a matter of time before you're taking the field. Even if Aaron would start the first game...it won't be so for the whole season. Brett won't compete for the job because there would be no competition. Give me a break. But if he needs to bide his time for the while, I think he should.

Rick Kimble
Jul 15, 2008 10:27pm ET

I am writing from CA. but am from Green Bay and have attended numberous games. Green Bay has made Brett a star over the past 15 years. This was a back-up Q.B. from Atlanta who got traded to G.B. and yes he has had a very good career but he also has had some very bad years and over the past 5 years has had one good year; last year. Not that this really is critical but he also had a drinking problem, addiction to prescription drugs and other issues. Green Bay never looked to trade him or remove him from his position over this period. The past three years the only thing they asked was for Brett to let the team know what his plans were. So after his retirement that he chose, the team drafted two Q.B.s and have a starter they drafted three years ago. From speaking with Packer Board Members, the team was willing to have Brett come back and start as late as the first week in June but during April, May and June Brett was uncertain and uncommitted. They did then decide to move on and rightfully so. They are entitled to make a decision whether or not to keep Brett but this is all heresay until Brett sends in his letter to be reinstated. If he is that serious aobut playing why has he not done that. He is just testing the waters. The packers also have to protect themselves would not be making a good long term decision by bringing him back. Would this be for one year, three years or 4 months, who knows. In the meantime, he makes up 1/5 of the team salary if they decide to have him on the team. This is a very easy decision especially considering his overall success the past 5-6 years. Thanks and feel free to call me to discuss. Rick K.

I am a Packer Fan and try not speak ill of anyone on the team, but this entire issue could have been avoided if Ted Thompson would treat people with respect. From calling Brett "...just a player" to being smug and deceitful in interviews, Thompson is really missing the mark. Perhaps Gretta should interview him next and poll the fans on what we, as owners, should do about his lack of management skill.

Before everyone calls for Thompson's head, let's remember that he's the man who put the entire team around Favre for last year's run. He built a Super Bowl team in Seattle (with another beloved Green Bay guy, Holmgren) and nearly did it way ahead of schedule in Green Bay. Let's not sound like Bears fans. Pretty soon we'll be debating whether or not a team of mini-Ditkas could be one normal Brett Favre. He's one man. He led a team to 4-12. He led a team to 13-3. Thompson was the difference from the former to the latter.

Brett is the greatest QB in NFL history. Why would a franchise not want him back. FIRE TED THOMPSON, trade Aaron Rodgers and bring Favre back. My family and I won't go see another Packer game if they don't bring him back. It's inconceivable to me the manner in which the Packer front office has treated this legend and HOF QB. All he wants to do is play again. Any Packer fan who doesn't think Favre is the Packers best chance to win doesn't know their football. Regardless of what happens, thousands of Packer fans across the country will never regard the Packer organization in the same light again. They have shown no loyalty to a player who has given his all and has been the face of the franchise for so many years. For you few "fans" who think Brett is being selfish, get a life and grow up. It's obvious to me that dedication and loyalty mean absolutely nothing to you people.

When you are as great as Brett Favre you should be allowed to decide if you want to play and be allowed to play. As a civilian in the workforce you are allowed to retire from a position and then go back to work if you so desire. The only difference here is everyone knows about it because it is Brett Favre. The Packers should allow him to come back and start. He is still better than 75% of the quarterbacks in the NFL today. Your chances are better with Favre than with Rodgers at this point. I can't believe letting Brett be released is even an option. Seems quite ridiculous to me. Brett is the best!!

Favre turned this team around w/ Wolf and Holmgren. He is the face of the team and the only one left. How disrespectful is it for a bunch of guys benefiting from their legacy to then turn him down. I think Brett was so emotionally drained end of last season because he got so close to the big prize , we all were, that he retired. That being said, many fans think that his wishes regarding the team were ignored by management. Sure, it's pro football and the Green Bay Packers and it's not all about Brett Favre, but there has never been nor will ever be another like him, and management in my opinion should have granted him much more than they did regarding the Packer roster. Bring Brett back to starting quarterback, get him the best team possible with his input to that end, and maybe replace some of the management. I have been a HUGE Brett fan for years but quite honestly, he has done this to himself ... he has held the team ransom for the past 4-5 years with the wavering and as much I understand the mental and physical demands placed on a starting QB like Brett, what he is doing right now is very much the same thing as he chastised Javon Walker for when he left - saying it was more about Javon and not about the team. How is this that much different?! If he is not concerned with competing for the starting spot against Rogers he should take that stand and he will be starting again for the team - I will be surprised if Aaron does not fall off the bench before the start of the season and hurt himself! I was also disappointed that he let his family speak for him before speaking himself - Scott has shot his mouth off before and his family is entitled to have their opinions, but stand up and let folks hear you BEFORE the rest of the family! They figure into decisions as they should but it is your career Brett ! Ted Thompson has not endeared himself to the fans since coming in to the role and has created at least the impression that he wanted the team to win with people he brought in - that will not happen with Rogers at the helm and will hopefully be his demise and the final straw to kick him out of Green Bay. We'll miss you Brett, should you not come back, but hopefully we can move ahead with MUCH LESS DRAMA in the future! A hurting Favre fan

He just wants to play again, why WOULDN'T they let him back as starter? He's an amazing QB. or at least have the decency to release him and let him make his own decision...?

Brett in Green Bay is good for the NFL. He is one of the greatest marketing tools they have ever had, and everyone knows the NFL is about profits. I think it has been clear form the start that Thompson wanted Brett out so he (Thompson) could begin to build his own legacy. He has replaced everyone on the team with the possible exception of Brett, in order to express his own will over the team, and shape it in his own image. (Thompson drafted Rogers, and wants him to succeed before eventual free agency tears his talented young team apart.) Favre got the team within one play of the Super Bowl, had 4000+ yards. He has never missed a day of work, and has played better while hurt than most starting QB's do while uninjured. He is a natural leader, and the team loves him. Who in their right mind would not take this guy back? If the facts matter to Thompson, then the choice is clear. Bring Brett back to start, and quit all this foolishness of starting an unproven, injury-prone kid that didn't even compete for the spot in camp yet. If Brett showed up in camp, he would eat that kid alive in drills. Rogers would probably be out injured within a few games anyway, then where would the team be? They'd probably crawl on their knees to Brett and beg him to play. It's clearly an agenda of regime change for Thompson's sake alone.

It was so sad to see Brett quit last March and my first thoughts were for him to stay retired as he said he was going to do, but after listening to my husbands reasoning it seemed right. Green Bay has to only worry about this coming year not two - three years down the road. Some will get hurt, some will get moved, some will move on their own. Green Bay has to worry about next year and winning 10 games to make the playoffs and who better to do that with than Brett. Just look at the year he had last year with no running game until towards the end......he carried that team till they started jelling together and look what they came up to. What a great year it was for The Packs. Yes, Kernon is right - let Brett play as the starting quarterback and wish him the best for him and especially the TEAM. Good program Gretta.

I guess through all this business with Brett I have realized more than ever that football is a business. But not for the thousands of fans! Brett is in our hearts and he is a part of our lives. For once, I would like to see the Packer business office do the RIGHT thing and think with their hearts!! Brett brought more to Green Bay and the Packers than any other player EVER! To treat him this way is an insult to him, his family and all of us who still believe in his magic! COME ON PACKERS!!! Go with your heart!!!

BRETT WAS A PRO BOWL SELECTION AND RECEIVED VOTES FOR MVP LAST SEASON. HE ADMITS HE WES WRONG TO RETIRE. BUT LOOK AT THE STATS MOST WINS,TDS EXCETRA. AARON NO WINS OR STARTS INJURY PRONE. TED THOMPSON IS TRYING TO PUT HIS NAME ON A WINNING PACKERS TEAM BUT CAN'T WITH BRETT THERE. HE IS TAKING HIS FOOTBALL AND GOING HOME LIKE A LITTLE BOY. AS MANAGMENT YOU TRY TO PUT THE BEST TEAM ON THE FEILD TO WIN. LET'S SEE LAST YEAR BRETT WENT 13-3. RODGERS 0-0 YOU DO THE MATH.

I have felt all along that Thompson did nbot value what the Packers had in Brett, and obviously Brett felt it too. Brett has always been a straight shooter (even on interceptions:0) and speaks from the heart. It is impossible to imagine Brett lying or stretching the truth. Packer fans want Brett back!

Bring him back as starter. Win or lose people come to see Farve play. It's good for the Packers, it's good for Green Bay!

Brett Forever!! Brett is to Green Bay as cheese, beer and Harleys are to Wisconsin!

Brett is still the best QB that the packers have and since this team is the only team in the NFL that is owned by the people than I say all fans should Boycot the games, picked the stadum and practise field until management pulls their head out their butt and do whats right for us the owners.

As a life long Packer fan, this is sad. Farve answered nothing. Why didn't you ask him why, three weeks after his "retirement", when the Packers were going to charter a plane and announce his return, two days before, he changed his mind again. Also, why didn't you mention that those "rallies" amounted to 30 people last night and only 100 on Sunday? These two "interviews" were a joke. I heard some interviews that you did this afternoon with local sportscasters, and you got very angry at them when they asked you some tough questions. Yes, Greta, we here in Wisconsin know the Packer organization. And this has been the lead story on radio, TV and print media for almost a week. What we learned from your interview is that he had reasons for retiring when he did (but, he never told us what they were) Although at times, it almost seemed like he was interviewing himself. I would email your friend, Deanna, and urge her to get some help for her husband. It appears that he is a 39 year old multimillionaire who just realized that his feet touch the ground like the rest us. What a sad fall from grace.

Brett should be welcomed back as the starter. Would it have been better if he had made his mind up sooner...of course. But it would be foolish and wrong of the Packer organization to not welcome him back after all he has contributed to this team, this state. He exemplifies all that is good in professional sports (which often doesn't leave us much to be impressed by). He plays for the lover of the game...he's never pushed the envelope for more money...he's been a great leader...and someone that made me truly proud to be a Packers fan. If he is not allowed back, it will never feel quite the same. He changed his mind ...so did Michael Jordan....but without question he has earned the right to rethink a decision. Now it's time for the Packers organization to do the right thing. We are rooting for you Brett!!

Brett Favre should be the starting QB until he proves he can't play. The Packer br(ass) thinks they can rely on someone who never started a game much less play without getting hurt is ridiculous. Brett doesn't have to prove nothing to any loyal PACKER FAN because he still is better than 90 percent of the QB's out there right now. He is and always will be the HEART of the Green Bay Packers. Never have I heard of any QB taking his team to a 13-3 record with a breath ofbeing in the Super Bowl get disrespected from an organization. Brett, The Hill Family and Packer Shareholders are behind you as long as you want to play. FAVRE 4EVER

Brett has been loyal to the Packers for 16 seasons. Anyone who has been in the workforce for that length of time can relate to having days when you are totally exhausted and wonder if you want to keep doing the same thing. Even if you love your job you have second thoughts. Cut the man some slack and let him come back or release him. I'll love and respect him no matter where he plays but I'd sure like to see him back in the green and gold uniform. Sorry Arron but you'll have your turn soon enough!!

There is only one acceptable solution, bring Brett back, make him the starter and let's start the season.

Football is all about winning. Bret gives the Packers the best chance to win this year compared to Rodgers being the quarterback. I also think Ted Thompson wants his own legacy of winning and his own quarterback. Not someone else's quarterback.(Ron W.) Packers organization his handling this just terrible

Bring Brett back as starting quarterback. Ted would be NOTHING without Brett! Fire that retard.
