I'm a little surprised that you would include the suggestion that perhaps vegetarians are just rich white people that live in safe, clean, non-toxic areas in your survey. My parents (both hailing from India) raised me and my three siblings as vegetarians. My mother worked in the university library and my father was a graduate student and we were by no stretch of the imagination "wealthy," but my parents managed very well by feeding us the healthy peasant staples of rice, lentils, fruits and vegetables. The myth that only wealthy people can afford to eat vegetarian ignores cultures that have long been healthfully vegetarian.
I think it totally depends on the person. Ive been a vegan for 15 years and just recently was diagnosed with cancer Im only 31 and apparently I have to much estrogen in my system from eating to much soy. damned if you do, damned if you don't I guess?
