Tourism is vital to Vermont but unfortunately all that state is getting is bad publicity and 'wacky side of the news' items. When 43 out of 50 states have Jessica's law or something just like it, most Americans evidently are not patient enough with child sex offenders to let them out for a long time - the children are the most important thing. Not getting them 'treatment' like Judge Cashman was concerned, when he tried to give a minor slap on the wrist to a man who had repeatedly raped a little girl over the course of years.

Why are child sex offenders so important that their freedom is more important than protecting the kids from them? That class of criminal has a very high rate of recidivism - note Jacques' satisfactory completion of a treatment program. Yes, very successful treatment.

VT is getting a rep in this country as being wacky and over the edge. Naked people riding bicycles or walking the streets and stuff like this great concern for child sex offenders sticks in peoples' minds and it cannot help your state in the long run. Isn't it best to protect the kids first and worry about the criminal later?

We need Jessica's law now. The liberals need to be replaced, gay Symmington and Dick Sears and others like them need to step down. They violated their sworn oaths of office. They violate the Vermont Consitution. It says even though they are elected officials they are but servant's of the people but they do not listen to us.

This coming Saturday at Taylor Park St. Albans 12 noon to 2pm in support of Jessica's law rally be there show your support bring your signs in support or demmanding liberals step down.

Being embarrassed that we are a" wacky state" shouldn't be the only reason that you vote for Jessica's Law. The people that have good common sense and the responsiblility to call on our legislators to do the right thing are now going to be heard for the first time in a long time. They are going to call on their representatives to correct our Judicial System, our Corrections System, our Parole System, etc. We need to find some way to allow prior actions by these offenders to be known when determing their fate. We need to make it necessary for a parent or parents who knowingly allows their child to be involved with a sex offender punishable. We have been silent when elections have allowed the progressive ideas to creep into our towns, let the so-called experts inject opinions or studies that make the real work of creating laws so hard and then we get white-washed laws. I for one would hope everybody takes the time to ask their local legislators to the answer to questions in this area, and if they don't like the answers take the time to vote them out. The attitudes that have eroded not only Vermont but all over our country have got to be changed.
I also don't believe that most offenders can't be cured especially after the 2nd offense and they need to be taken off the street for life. If their civil rights have been violated I'm sure some defense attorney will step in.
I also ask the legislators that don't agree with strengtening sexual offenders laws, to sit down, take a deep breath, think about the victims and especially the CHILDREN and say can I let this continue on my watch? If you want this to continue, then get out of office and let somebody else do the right thing!!!

Jessicas Law will only make things worse... thats what it has done in the other 43 states. You wonder why our legislature soesent pass the law, its because it has its downsides. If your going to talk about it, read up on if first, it doesent work.

If the leftist politicians in this state won't vote for Jessica's Law, vote them out of office! Just don't forget to ask your senators and representatives how they will vote before going to the polls. Don't put up with their lame excuses why they won't support it. They would rather sit around the camp fire and sing Kumbya. We have had enough of their do nothing sessions!!

The only ones who DON'T want Jessica's Law in Vermont are the "perverts and pervert supporters". There are several reasons for this: 1. It means at some point in time either THEY or a FRIEND or FAMILY MEMBER will end up in jail under Jessica's Law. 2. They are perverts themselves who prey on helpless children and want the least penalty if caught after committing a crime against a helpless child. 3. They're either DEMOCRAT or SOCIALIST/PROGRESSIVE politicians and since they don't see the VALUE of our children (seeing how they are wholeheartedly PRO-ABORTION and PRO-RADICAL-HOMOSEXUAL), how can the "deviants" deviate from their agenda?

If such a law is passed, my only concern would be the unfortunate fate of those convicted of crimes they truly didn't commit. However, given the rarity of such occurrences...?
Obviously, something needs to be done, but I can't pretend to know the ideal solution which involves the most justice and the least consequences.

Maybe something fool-proof will be conceived one day, but until then, I think passing Jessica's law is the best option.

We have law in Vermont to cover all crimes.

this is an attempt by those in government to inflame the public, take the attention off the collapse of the state and extend power over the people by moving towards a year round legislature.

Vermont is a free and independent state and can make any law they as long as it is consistent with the Cosntitution of this republic.

Punishment to deter crimes is the Vermont Constitutions mandate

We have seen a judge violated the law to insert his personal legal code.

there have been other illegitimate methods used with respect to sex crimes.

Why is this government run by the same people who never are brought to justice for their crimes against our Consitutions?

If you answered NO then you must be for harming children and you yourself should be closely watched. It is true--Vermont is beautiful in many ways--but it is very disturbing that our laws do not protect our children. It saddens me that our country and the world views us the way they do. Something needs to be done. Hopefully something good will come out of the death of Brooke Bennett....Do it for Brooke...Do it for our children
