What exactly is the point of these polls?

Marc with a C, you have the worst polls. Obama is moving to the center, Obama has been relatively consistent on the issues (no one has been completely consistent on the issues and if that were the case it would not be to their credit) I have no idea whether Obama believes he's been consistent on the issues and no one does. Imagine this poll:
Marc Ambinder:
A) Is totally impartial and intellectually without peer
B) A completely biased idiotic hack
C) A weasel of middling intellectual gifts

See what I did there? using your techniques for constructing polls designed to reveal no interesting information I made it so that C is the obvious answer. Even your mother would admit that it is most accurate description.

Silly polls like this and the total freedom from commentary from the reading public is why I so rarely read this blog anymore. Isn't there a BBQ McCain is throwing that you need to hurry off to?

The behavior of the other commenters thus far is downright shameful. Grow up, people. If you disagree, talk about why, rather than formulating convoluted insults.

The poll is fine. What's stunning is that only 10% chose the top option. Obama has clearly and demonstrably shifted on several notable issues. Which, as Marc astutely points out, is fine...but he's been denying it all the while.

The comments to this point simply illustrate the almost religious fanatacism attached to this man. Read Marc's stuff; he's been plenty critical of McCain, and has praised Obama with regularity. He's one of the most moderate voices with The Atlantic. If you view him as some sort of McCain shill, it says more about your skewed perspective than it does about him.
