Were the floats in the Beverly Farms Fourth of July Horribles parade too much?

Answer 1 Yes. It's one thing to lampoon politicians and celebrities, but teenage girls are an unfair target. The parade committee should have pulled the floats.

Answer 2 No. The parade is always full of satire and bad taste. This year was no different.

NJ's Craziest

Things have become way too serious. I have been going to this parade since the eighties. I have seen a number of floats with content that caused some shock and a lot of laughter. The point of all of these parades around the country are to celebrate America, our freedoms, and our traditions. We have the ability to openly express our ideas and our thoughts. It is this freedom of speech that makes this country great.
Our thoughts are not always on our achievements but rather our faults. If we can look at our own faults and laugh at them then we know we've learned from our mistakes. If we can't laugh and choose to point fingers; then society is in more trouble than we all thought.
So take the stick out of your ass and take a step back. Realize it's okay to laugh. Even I can see that here on the Jersey Shore.

To NJ's craziest....your comment about the stick is obviously on the same
page as the people that created those floats and the signs attached. It was
all in bad taste and if you advertised such behavior for your next parade, I'd
like to see the people who would show up. I'm sure it would bring out the
best of the lowest form out there. Not too fitting for the people of Beverly
Farms. Obviously you live in a glass house and can afford to throw stones !

As a Gloucester resident I say "right on Beverly farms" for having the courage to do what our city officials failed to do. These sluts deserve all the ridicule they get for making our community an international laughing stock, for disgracing themselves and their school. The poor kids to be born are the real victims here, and all our mayor can do is throw the principal under the bus to protect her own butt.

Question....Why is Beverly only getting ridiculed for their floats???? Salem Willows had at least 3 floats making fun of the pregnant Gloucester teens!
Clearly these girls (or should I say children) who wanted to get pregnant do not realize how serious a situation it is to bring a baby into this world....so why not reciprocate the level of seriousness back...They deserve it...maybe the blatant acts of these floats will knock some sense into them. Also people need to take the PC stick out of their behinds.....

Other than the giant squirting penis and the tossing of condoms along with candy when small children were present I found nothing overly offensive about the parade. Those two things may have been in poor taste or in bad judgement, but making fun of a group of media whoring nitwits and the collective adult morons - all supposedly community "leaders" - who enabled this whole media sensation is ALWAYS fair game in the Horribles Parade - here in Beverly Farms or ANYWHERE else across this (still) FREE country! The floats were parodies of the event - they depicted the girls and people of the story who served THEMSELVES up for ridicule. They were fair game.
There seems to be more outrage directed at parade floats then at the parents, teachers, and so called "community leaders" who failed miserably in recognizing and addressing a problem within the youth of their community. Where were all the "shocked and outraged" parents, teachers and leaders of Gloucester when their children and students were making babies? Oh, that's right - they were DENYING them access to birth control, pregnancy testing, sex education and counseling WITHOUT the consent of a parent. Show me a sexually active 16 year old that is going to approach mom or dad for a consent form when they are already engaging in unprotected sex? Maybe if we pretend our kids are NOT having sex long enough - we'll all start to actually believe it! WRONG!

Everyone knows who is responsible for those floats, this time they went to far.

Well this just sums up what a sad and repulsive state our country is in-when the 4th of JULY- a holiday that celebrates the war and struggles our forefathers endured in order to secure our freedom-by parading around this years latest media garbage in a tasteless vulgar display. Way to go Beverly, Mass.-Give those young onlookers a lesson in hatecrime-you sad sick people!
There is nothing wrong with poking a little fun-but this makes Jerry Springer look like god damn Mr.Rogers.

NJ's craziest: we DO live in a country where we have the freedom to express ideas and opinions, but that does NOT make it okay to use that right to demean and insult people. those floats weren't only insulting to the pregnant teens in gloucester, they were insulting to ALL women EVERYWHERE. "smelled tuna, shoulda pulled out soona"!?!? smells like misogyny to me, and i think it's sad that there are so many people out there who have no problem with this. if we condone sexist insults like this we are only encouraging society to continue slandering women for simply having vaginas.

and no, i don't have a stick in my ass, but i do have a brain in my head.

I just can't see where any of this would be okay. There were young children present and you had a giant squirting penis? To "Get a grip": you didn't think posters that said things like "When I smelled tuna, shoulda pulled out soona" isn't offensive? Did I mention that there were small children present? Apparently Beverly thinks that spreading intolerance, hate, and cruelty should be a family value. Very nice. Good job. Hope you're proud of yourselves.

anyone who thinks these floats were "all in good fun" is ignoring the blatant intolerance they represent. like vkitty pointed out, hate is NOT a family value. to pass it off as such is an insult to the families that were present at the parade. how many children do you think asked their parents what was going on that day?? and how many parents do you think were at a loss for words because they knew that the answer was "well, those people hate women." the pregnant teens in gloucester may not have made the most responsible decisions, but none of us are in any position to be judge, jury, and exectutioner. what's next, lining them all up for a public whipping??

maybe the people of beverly should take a good look at the issues affecting their own community before they take a position of such venom against nearby towns.

um, has anyone else noticed that it's mostly men throwing around the words "slut" and "whore" to describe the girls in gloucester?? there are obviously some women echoing these sentiments, but it seems that it's been pretty easy for all the guys out there to pass judgement. as usual, men know what's good for women, huh? it must be pretty easy to be cruel when you can just say "oh, it was a JOKE" when people are offended. then you can always back it up with "geez, why do you chicks take everything so seriously?" funny how that works.

let's just tar and feather those little whores. that'll teach em.... no, i'm not serious. but yes, i am appalled at how close people are to actually reaching this point.

It seems like the town of Beverly may be a little jealous of all the attention Gloucester has been getting lately. Next year the "Horribles" should just have some high school students mime giving blowjobs to some boys. I bet that would get plenty of negative attention, and they can show the world exactly how their students avoid getting pregnant.

Thos floats weren't just a 'parody' of a news event. They were a brutal attack aimed squarely at a group of girls who, while irresponsible, have done nothing to hurt anyone. Afraid your family values are being threatened by these 'tramps', Beverly? Maybe some more ejaculating penis statues will get the point across. Think these girls' parents are to blame for their pregnancies? You would probably be appalled to learn what your own children are doing behind your back. You should have been appalled to see what they were doing publicly in the Horribles parade, but then again it was probably your idea. Good way to scare them into never admitting they are sexually active-- show them how we publicly victimize the "whores" who "ride the greasy pole." Sex education at it's best: tell all teenage girls they're just one night away from being tramps and hope they're too ashamed to ever have a healthy sexual relationship. Bravo, Beverly Massachusetts!
