I am a full time dad and my wife works full time. We always doour best to share allduties as much as possible with the kids and housework and always try to involve our children in all that we do
Surely the point is that it is a shared set of roles. The divisions created by questions about who works the hardest seem to be missing the point of interdependence and how things change over the life course.
Most parents end up sharing much less than they had thought they would. There are lots of pressures on them to separate roles, particularly the fact that part-time and flexible work is less secure and pays less than full-time work. The problem is when one parents thinks things are being shared enough and the other parent does not! Or both are unhappy but feel they have no power to change things. Or where one parent feels trapped by the automatic decision by the other parent to do what they want rather than to discuss compromise.
