Not only medical conferences, but all international conferences, with new technologies almost all topics can be managed online
I think this needs to be put to the test. I go to about two GP conferences per year, one large (WONCA Europe or World - about 2000 delegates plus families) and one small (EURACT in Bled Slovenia - about 50 people plus families). It would be nice if the organisers of a conference offered a virtual conference as an extra or for one year as an alternative to the usual conference and see what happens. Imagine a conference without sponsorship! I would miss the networking, the cameraderie, the meals and the sightseeing but I would miss my planet more if it disappeared. I'm willing to give a virtual conference a try. Any takers?
I backwards - I found the passive wording of the question confusing. Also, you didn't state whether the conference involved actual travel. Virtual conferencing are definitly a plus, and I would think only incourage communication.
I go to 2 or 3 conferences per year. To the SFTA Société Française de Toxicologie Analytique), was at Martinique this year, and to the huge (10.000 delegates) annual meeting of the AACC. There I'll get 7 workshops, meetings, etc. in 4 days on LC/MSMS. Our lab acquired such a machine, it arrives in october. Never elsewhere, I could get that amount of crucial information in such a short time.
I'm responsible for the toxicological analyses in our lab.
