Obama slammed Hillary for months on her yes vote for the war in Iraq. Now he picks Joe Biden who voted YES for the Iraq war and was a huge supporter of President Bush.Obama is a lier,he is a flip flopper.I don't trust him at all.For the first time in 40 years im going to cross over and vote for McCain. At least he is a war hero and I trust him.

McCain has flip flopped on many issues, including tax cuts by Bush to the wealthy that he opposed in 2002 and recently has come to support. He has flip flopped on privatizing social security after seeing how unpopular it is. There are more, but the bottom line is that these are politicians, they will flip flop when they see it as largely unpopular. I don't trust many politicians, but I still believe that President Bush has been a disaster for this country and that John McCain has sold his soul and will continue in Bush's footsteps. Yes its, tacky, but "it's time for change". It's time for new blood, it's time for Barack Obama to be our President.

I'm a right winger's right wing. I think Obama is great for our election process, but an absolute disaster for the country. He's flat wrong on abortion, taxes, the military, and every issue that really matters. What stinks is that I can't stand McCain on immigration, and Campaign Finance is one of the most agregious attacks on our constitution in memory. He's cantakerous (sp) and in general - spiteful and muleheaded. To call him a continuation of Bush is just plain ignorant. They are very different, even on policies they agree on.

Neither McCain nor Obama are ideal candidates. It seems to me that Obama is nothing more than a mouth piece for the left. This is where his lack of experience in the "big" game will hurt him. His actions indicate a person who truly hates his country and his policies are, at best, socialist. McCain is right more often than wrong, but when he's wrong he'll admit it...call it a flip flop if you must.

The ugly truth is that liberal candidates for national office are not electable unless they flip flop or hide their true ides and ideology. Some call it moving to the center. I'm less charitable in my characterization, but the fact is they are misrepresenting themselves. Republican candidates move to the center and in the process lose elections.

I won't convince anyone here to change their vote. In my opinion, McCain is too old and just flat wrong on key policy issues. Obama is dangerously inexperienced and simply not ready. The Dem's made a big mistake in not nominating that female dog Hitlery. I can't stand her, but she's is a far better candidate than Barry.

I say we all vote for "none of the above", but in lieu of that, I'll hold my nose and vote for McCain.

icdumbpeeps: right wing rootie kazooties with no education

Typical liberal. You think you're smarter than everyone else because you probably went to college. You probably want to pay less taxes but you support bleeding-heart pity-party social programs for the scores of people who sit back and collect because they just don't feel like working. Well genius, who do you think is going to pay for it? You think Obama is going to cut YOUR taxes? HA! As far as tax breaks for 'the wealthy', I'm nowhere near wealthy but even I can admit that the top tax bracket's rate is horrible (would you put in 60+ hour work weeks to get a high salary, only to have to pay back about half of it in taxes?)

News to you: There are plenty of us in the right wing who not only went to college, but also graduate school, law school, and/or medical school. Personal attacks on people with whose opinion you do not agree only makes you look juvenile and uneducated. Stick to the issues, not the people expressing their opinions on them.

Cant wait untill the Governor is in a Federal Prison...wont happen untill after the election though, seems a Senator from Illinios is running and we sure would not want him to be part of the crooked politicans that the great state of Chicago is noted for now would we.

I'd rather have lower taxes, so I'm going to cross over and vote McCain.
I have a small business and I know my employees can't afford to be taxed higher on their paychecks. I have investments saved up for retirement, I don't want those taxed a a higher rate either.

Chalk up another complaint for the limited (only 2) choices in this poll: consider it boycotted, much like the RNC.

Write-in Votes for this Poll: Ron Paul, Ralph Nader, Ross Perot, Michael Delavar, Me, You; Hell, anyone but these two.

I'd sooner cast my vote for Ken Adachi: educate-yourself.org
Or maybe Don Croft.

I believe both men are great candidates to be president. In this crucial time of war and foreign policy. Mccain seems like the better candidate for this time period. Obama is great but inexperienced. I believe in future years to come. Obama will have a great chance in the Oval office. Mccain really supports the war but to protect the American people. Deep down I believe war is unethical and downright bad. But I believe if we want peace, war is inevitable. Our country was established by war. I don't want to repeat history again ( VN War). We started this war against terrorism. It is now time to finish it with victory.

I could only watch taped tidbits of speeches from the Republicans this week, or read the speeches in print; to watch their arrogance, condescension, and cruelty literally made me sick to my stomach. Communication skills in the style of Jerry Springer. I was embarrassed for our country. I did get relief from Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert who outdid themselves showing the Republicans' true colors. I eagerly await the chance to vote for Barack Obama and Joe Biden.

Oregon is back in play. While Eugene, Salem and central Portland will go blue as they always do, both the suburbs/exurbs are trending red. Remember, the other 33 counties in the state consistently vote red each election. Should be interesting.

Did anyone notice the latest Alaskan poll? There was a 34 point swing towards the Republican ticket. Not surprising there was a swing of course, but how about the magnitude? How many points did Delaware swing in the two weeks after Biden was selected?

Just another community organizer for Palin!

Aron

You know what's funny about that 34 point swing in Alaska? They all want to up the hand outs and know that if their gov is in the White House the faucet will continue to flow even when uncle Ted is asked to stay home after the senatorial election. At least uncle Ted has a nice fixed up place in Girdwood to spend his twilight years. Yeah republicans hate earmarks, ask an Alaskan.

You've had your day Republicans. You've had total control of the judicial, legislative and executive branches. You rely on fooling people for votes, specifically fooling them into actions that are bad for their survival. There is no linkage between 9-11, Iraq, and Iran (can't fool me). There is global warming and when the red states have had their fill of natural disaster, they will come around to this view. There is no disposal solution for nuclear waste, and oil is yesterday's fuel. Most importantly: YOU CAN'T BE PRO-LIFE AND PRO WAR. Republicans are the hate filled party of endless war and only see humanity in white skin. Meanwhile in Afghanistan and Pakistan we are bravely sending aerial robots to kill human beings. When need to have a conversation about the morality of THAT.
PS: ALERT!! SARAH PALIN tried to BAN BOOKS her local public library. She also tried to have librarians fired when they refused. Aren't you sick of this crap? I know I am.

The only thing Obama cares about is Obama. He is an elitest. No one is as good as he (Obama) thinks he is. The Democratic Party HAS pick the worst of two evils (Clinton being the other). I pay enough in taxes and I sure as hell don't want to have to stand in line to see a doctor.

Palin is a breath of fresh air. The President and Vice Presiden tshould be real people and no career political fat cats with tons of money to buy their way into everything. GO MCCAIN/PALIN

For Pete's Sake!!! This is just another GOP tactic to distract the public from the real issues. We are in some deep, deep kim chee in this country folks. Listen and watch as Barack Obama addresses his plans to address health care, jobs, banking regulation, the Iraq war, climate change, and how he will CHANGE the horrific policies of the Bush/Cheney administration. Then watch the McSame/Chick Cheney lie their rear ends off at these inane rallies, where they read the same deceitful cue cards as the RNC show, while at the same time avoid any real press and unscripted interviews. Eleven days and counting, and Palin hasn't sit down to be interviewed by the press??? The press are the public's eyes and ears to the candidates. This is an absolute sham and any American that professes a love for their country should be DEMANDING MORE!!!

This man, and I use that term loosely, is a traitor and war criminal from his actions as a POW. Something no body is talking about, much like GW's desertion from the Texas Air Guard, is his failure to be held accountable for his 30+ films and other signed statements denouncing his service and requesting other Pilots, Sailors and Soldiers to abandon their posts and stop fighting. Granted the war was wrong, just like this one, but he was an Officer and Gentleman and subject to the Code of Conduct as a POW.

This is a document that we swore to uphold if we were ever captured, just like the Constitution, the Geneva Convention and the UCMJ. Something he never suffered was to face a Military Court to answer to his shortcomings as a POW and collaborator with the enemy. Irrespective of his wounds, caused by his own failure to properly eject from his wounded jet, his fifth one, he failed to protect himself and the information he held. That he was the son and grandson of two Admirals was known and he actually received special treatment not excessive torture like many think.

He lasted next to no time, less than a few days at best, because he was being denied medical treatment and couldn't handle it. Meanwhile real men were taking it and not breaking and he refused to be repatriated because he was ashamed and afraid of being held accountable for his crimes against the American military.

It amazes me that we are going through this crap again and the real problems with these people is their failure to have scruples and honor. He has no honor or respect for his peers, military or otherwise, and needs to be held accountable for his actions.

As for Barack, I will take my chances because he is not a Republican with a pile of lies, cheating and overtaxation of the less than ultra rich and other Orwellian statements. People that think he will raise your taxes, don't be fooled again and again and again, Obama will raise taxes but it will happen to those truly elitist ultra millionaires and billionaires.

He will probably roll over for the corporations but perhaps he will be the man he says he is and stand up for the real citizens that support our country and our troops. Perhaps he will bring jobs back to America that matter and we can redevelop the middle class with real jobs and wages instead of the complaining Americans can't stand real work.

McInsane and Caribou Woman will take away even more of our shattered rights and cause further erosion of the Constitution, they must not gain the White House, Period! The Supreme Court can't take it, the US Military can't take, our Country can't take it.

While it would be nice to vote for other than a main stream candidate it is futile under our current two party set up. The stage is thoroughly controlled by the RIGHT, not Left wing, media. Another problem brought to us by the Neo-Conservative Bushists in power for the last two terms.

I didn't sacrifice six years of my life to train and fight as a US Sailor in and off the coast of Viet Nam to be lied to and cheated out of my rights and prosperity that I earned for myself and you. I haven't use my votes to install traitors, dictators or draft dodgers in the highest positions of power in the free world. I fought so I could have a good GI Bill, a good job that I did for 25 years, just to watch what we had for retirement evaporate as the market manipulators stole that money? I don't think so.

The cheaters should go to jail and their resources should be redistributed. Over paid CEOs and other white collar thieves should pay dearly, they should be proud of how much they help our society instead of how little they help. They use the same roads, bridges and other infrastructure we use and they are not happy about sharing it! Paul and the rest will only be side notes of little if any import, so either vote for McNut and more Bush policies or vote for a chance at change by voting Obama.

President Bush announced a withdrawal of troops from Iraq and that there would be a deployment of an Army brigade to Afghanistan in early 2009. Candidate Obama exposed himself as not ready to assume the role of Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the United States.

Mr. Obama indicated that while it was good to know that forces are coming out of Iraq, it was “kicking the can down the road” to wait for an additional brigade deployment to Afghanistan until 2009.

Mr. Obama has failed his Military Strategy 101 quiz.

Do not send troops into mountainous terrain occupied by the enemy at the onset of winter, WHY?

1.A competent commander does not subject our troops or equipment to unfavorable environments if there is a better alternative, hold for conditions more conducive to success.
2.Supplies in the possession of enemy combatants will be consumed as they weaken while enduring winter conditions. Let the harshness of winter work in our favor.

A seasoned commander would know how to utilize every possible advantage, especially seasonal weather factors. Weather is superimposed on the terrain challenges that exist in Afghanistan without incurring additional monetary strain on the defense budget.

By waiting to deploy our forces until February, we achieve:

1.Well deserved rest and recovery time for our troops in the relative comfort of any location which is not a combat zone.
2.Timely placement of troops, equipment and supplies just as spring arrives ensure our troops generally improving conditions toward summer.
3.The ability of our troops to strategically block enemy resupply efforts in the spring when enemy combatants are at their worst physical condition and lowest supply levels.

Mr. Obama demonstrates an appalling lack of the most basic understanding of military planning and strategy. His approach would waste lives, supplies and be doomed to failure before the engaging the enemy. The ability to apply appropriate logic in military operations saves lives.

As a point of historical reference, D-Day was June and not autumn for a good reason. The subsequent European campaigns of WWII were critically calendar dependent on the success of that massive operation. Anyone watching the History Channel or listening to their family members who endured that war would know these lessons.

On the military strategy quiz, a failing grade to Mr. Obama.

The extra credit opportunity was a demonstration of Mr. Obama's of judgment. If he had the selected the appropriate people into his trusted group of advisers, they would have known these facts as well. Instead, he has demonstrated his inability to select competent support staff and advisers.

On the competent staffing opportunity portion of the quiz, another failing grade.

Mr. Obama is NOT READY to lead anything more than a pep rally.

The "kicking the can down the road" comment is the candidates own words on spoken on Tuesday, 9 September 2008.

I may not be the brightest bulb in the group, but it looks pretty simple to me. Eight years ago I was very optimistic about this country and we were in good standing here and across the globe. I also felt safe. Since then, the Republican doctrine of preemptive strike and the party's horrendous failure with the economy have me feeling quite insecure, angry, and afraid. And that fear has much less to do with the terrorists than my own government! Remember Enron, Katrina, judicial tampering, Cheney's closed door meetings with the energy giants, Scooter & Karl, spying on citizens, abandonment of habeus corpus and other civil rights, lying about WMDs, halliburton cronyism, Ashcroft, Rumsfeld, Abu Ghraib, Foley, gads - too many more to name. I'm glad I decided not to have children. Given how many people actually think another Republican ticket (and if you vote McCain, you get the whole party) is the answer, I made the right choice! At least Obama is looking for ways to bring hope and unity back to this country, and he cares about whether or not I can actually find a job. That's a heck of a lot better than the same old bickering over divisive (and distracting) issues that shouldn't be decided by the federal government anyway. Also, I can only imagine what the Republicans would do if it were Obama who left his first wife for a younger, richer (and not disfigured) woman, and Biden with the unmarried pregnant daughter. At least the Democrats aren't slinging mud the way the reds would. I suppose I'd like to see some integrity restored to the White House (even the Clintons are looking like angels!).

Obama would be a great President. Better than McCain. He is only getting votes right now because of Sarah Palin. Just because she is a women, people are voting for McCain. It's not about gender or race. It's about their ideas and how they are going to change America! That is the most important thing.

Hey Mike,

You say"...these fools that can't see that with Barack Obama in the white house and stronger Democratic majorities in both houses that this country, the middle class, and our children's future will all benefit."

More excessive spending on more programs and ever climbing tax rates are going to do nothing but put a further drag on the private sector (you know...the ones who pay for the golden public employee parachutes). Socialism has been proven over and over to be a demoralizing failure throughout the world. I guess it's going to take one more time for you.

It is frightening to read how many STUPID people are out there. After 8 years of this poor excuse of an administration and you idiots are willing to vote for McCain and even consider at least 4 more of the same. Have you ever given a real thought about what happens when the old guy dies from the stress or from an illness and Palin takes over??? Talk about inexperienced!!! Not only is she inexperienced she's about as dumb as a mud fence. Wake up people..haven't you had enough of this last 8 years and want a change????? The Rep. team is outclassed and I think at least one of them knows it.
I particularly liked the problem Palin is having in her home state being explained by 2, not 1, reports. The official one showed her to be in violation of a canon of ethics, at the least. She preempted this report with her own. And --SURPRISE !-- it cleared her. I wonder who she thinks she is fooling? It speaks volumes as to her opinion of the intellect of her own supporters.

Let's see what Palin has to say about the book ban issue:

~
HANNITY: Let me ask you this, because there have been a number of controversies. I’ll let you give a quick reaction to them. That have as the 30 mini army of reporters and op research people in the Obama campaign. Did you ban books in the Alaska library? Did you try to ban books in the Alaska library? In the Wasilla Library?

PALIN: No. But I got a kick out of that one also. Yes, no. No banned books. No desire to ban a book. That list of banned books, though, that we saw there that included “Harry Potter,” which, of course, had not even been written or published before I was in there. To be accused of banning books, no.

HANNITY: It’s false.

PALIN: False.

HANNITY: Never part of an effort to secede — have Alaska secede from the Union?

PALIN: No. False. Always been a Republican, not been a part of a party that has wanted to secede.

HANNITY: Did you only want to teach creationism in school and not evolution?

PALIN: No. In fact, growing up in a school teacher’s house with a science teacher as a dad, you know, I have great respect for science being taught in our science classes and evolution to be taught in our science classes.

Kim

Hey Bill -- Perhaps you ought to read the Branchflower Report for yourself. Palin's actions were proper and legal.

The Branchflower report states Todd Palin used his wife's office and its resources to press for Wooten's removal, and the governor "failed to act" to stop it. But because Todd Palin is not a state employee, the report makes no finding regarding his conduct.
~~
The ethics inquiry into Sarah Palin’s firing of Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan has found that the firing was “proper and lawful.” This good news comes with some possible damaging news as the ethics panel, although clearing Palin of wrong doing, notes that she “abused her power” in the matter. The abuse of power is due to the extraordinary access that Todd Palin had to the governor’s office and her closest advisers. He used that access to try to get trooper Mike Wooten fired, the report found.
~~
Drew Griffin
CNN Investigative Reporter Sept. 4

The Alaska state trooper at the center of a probe into whether Gov. Sarah Palin abused her power says he has “made mistakes, and I’ve learned from those mistakes.” But in an exclusive interview with us, Mike Wooten, Palin’s former brother-in-law, also denies some of the biggest allegations against him.

Wooten says he has been offered $30,000 to tell his story to a tabloid. The Obama campaign has reached out to the head of his union. And he no longer answers any phone number he doesn’t recognize for fear it is another pesky reporter who wants his story.

The story is how he married into, then divorced out of, Alaska’s first family. The trooper finds his life at the center of the one and only potential scandal I can find concerning Gov. Palin, John McCain’s choice for running mate.

The scandalous allegation is the governor used her power to try and get her sister’s ex fired. When that didn’t work, it’s alleged Gov. Palin fired the public safety commissioner.

In our interview, Wooten rattled off a disturbing number of “mistakes” he’s made in his career. He admits tasering his stepson, illegally killing a moose and admits to multiple reprimands in his file. A state trooper investigation even found credible evidence he was drinking in his patrol car.

My husband and I will vote for Obama, so will our (former Republican) tax advisor and his wife, so will his parents; also former Republicans. So will my neighbors (former Republicans.) Obama is an intellectual, that seems to scare some people. He remains cool under pressure and is capable of forming rational thoughts. Something some of you object to, I know.
He is not a hot head like McCain. Somehow Repukelicans seem to believe that other heads of state really want to pall around with jane six pack. That dizzy barbie is an embarrassment of monumental proportions. McCain is a war hero? Really, he crashed one plane after another, that makes him a war hero? Bottom of his class; only stayed in school because of family connections just like Bushie. Bush would have never been accepted at Yale if it wasn't for affirmative action for the wealthy. His pappy went there, so he had a right to attend. Never mind that he is functionally illiterate. And now the right wing wants to continue the tradition of having mentally inferior people run this country into the ground. Have you no shame?

I get so tired of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Savage, etc. and all their lies that I’ve bought a satellite radio for my commute. They have quite an assortment of progressive talk and world news: 2 NPR channels (NPR Now, NPR Talk), Sirius Left Talk, and Air America, along with BBC World Service News, CBC (Canadian) Radio One, World Radio News, CNN and much more. They also have Portland traffic all the time. The kind I got was a Sirius unit installed by my car dealer, and I plan on using it a lot especially in the coming week or so when they spew their hate.
