I so wanted to visit England, Italy and France this summer but due to the cost of airfair and the decline of our dollar, my Europe trip is on hold pending quite a few things.

We usually either drive to the Cape (from Upstate New York) or anywhere in New England, but not this year; we're just staying home and puttering around the house. How sad when Americans can't even afford gas for their cars to drive and enjoy this great country...I just wonder how great it will remain.

How come we are not talking about the two people that said if you elect Democrats to Congress they would take care of the gas price problem!!! Those 2 people would be Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid both Democrats. If this is how they do it God help us!!!!!!!!!

It;s hard enough to afford the gas to get back and forth to work, let alone driving for any length of a trip. We will stay home because my boss will not give me a raise to cover the higher gas prices (and groceries etc), go figure?

I have a big SUV and like to travel from VA to FL with my Kids. I think it will be cheaper just to sent for my one son in FL to fly into VA. gas prices are too high for me and I have not gotten my extra IRS money. I know my Kids are going to be very sad.

I usually drive to Florida in the spring. This year I will help the Democrats and stay home. Can anyone tell me what their short term solution is, how long it will take and how much they can effect the price of fuel? The Democrat majority has had two years and can only name post offices and get good rates on their mortgages. Oh I'm sorry they also are a prime player in doubling the price of gas in their two years. If they have a problem with the fiibuster, have them read the copy of the Constitution that Robert Byrd carries. Drill here and now!!!

My extended family & I always take a road trip for the 4th of July up to Montana (from CA & UT) to visit grandparents who have a large house on Flathead Lake. This year, everyone has cancelled. Hopefully, we'll be able to make it next year.

As a Florida resident, I believe drilling off the coast of Florida is a terrible idea. It's less of a question of IF and more of a question of WHEN an accident happens. It's going to destroy the beaches which are the lifeblood of the state. We live and die on tourism, in fact, tourism dollars are the reason we don't pay a state income tax. Our beaches are largely responsible for attracting those tourists. Just look at Texas or Long Beach California. Eventually, there will be a spill (regardless of how minor) especially with all the hurricanes down here. Even the industrial nature of the enterprise will be bad. I'm not Mr. Environment, I'm in the Air Force and I'm a strong Republican -- it's the logical engineer in me that wants to use this 'oil crisis' as an excuse to develop new technologies (green or not). There's got to be a sexier (read: more efficient) solution than burning oil.

Our vacation plans will be limited to a short trip to our local state park (beautiful) and city pool. With 3 drivers in the family, it is really hard to fill all the vehicles for work and church, much less go on a road trip. On top of this, our non-driver busy teenager complicates things, and we will not be getting her the "hardship" license we did for the other one because we can't fill yet another car with gas. She will need to carpool with friends and their moms to get to summer practices. Don't know what to do about high school transportation. That big yellow bus looks pretty good. (She is rolling her eyes!)

No Change --- But I am not going out of Minnesota this year. I probably will put off going to Fort Meyers for Twins' Spring Training next year if it gets worse. I see inflation at about 12-15% -- NOW -- not the bogus 4% the government is spewing. DRILL--Build Refineries -- and Nuclear power plants NOW!! Congress is killing us by not allowing easy access to get our own house in lorder within the next years/generation -- while watching Spain-Cuba and China get prepared to drill 60 miles off Florida coast--and help Saudi Arabia build Nuke plant while WE CAN'T?>?? dumb dumb and dumber

There are people who can hardly afford to drive to work. So we decided to cut down on our energy use hoping when the big corp. start feeling the crunch more pressure would be applied on who ever can get things done to start drilling drilling drilling.

$4 a gallon is not bad... Did you check the price a gallon for the rest of the world?

Richard
6/26/2008 7:58:19 AM ET

We didn't change our summer vacation plans because they were all set at the beginning of the year and we still thought diesel prices would take their normal drop for the summer. We original budgeted 3.50 a gallon when diesel was 3.00 a gallon. We ended up paying 4.50 to 4.75 a gallon for our 3300 mile trip towing our RV trailer. The overal increase to our budget was about $350 with the price difference. Since we don't commute to work and really don't drive much anyhow (fill up about once every 2-3 weeks) we take our trips to get away from the house so our plans for trips haven't changed. We DO however, make trips around town count and try not to waste those miles.

Drill here! New technologies need to be created, however, the stability and reliability of the new technologies to help us get away from fossil fuel will not be known for several years. In the mean time we need to support ourselves as we should have been all along. These prices are ridiculous, yet my summer plans haven't changed. I've taken 41 DAYS OFF, and I've been traveling for about 20 of those days now. No, I'm not a rich person, I barely make 5 digits, but richer because of the traveling I've done around this great nation. I've been forced a tighter budget on other things, but there are many things we can all do without (I ditched my TV). I have no idea how the market for oil works, then again I don't feel I need to know, but I have a pretty good idea of when I am being ripped off. This is one of those things I know I am being ripped off for. We need to drill here and not allow so-called speculators to have any say in the oil prices for the drilling done here. Why are we not allowed to drill here in our own territory, yet China is going to eventually be drilling just off the coast of Florida sixty miles from shore? Doesn't make much sense to me.

Tim: Yes, I have checked the prices, I've been to places where it's between 12 and 25 CENTS PER GALLON...

Justin

Ken, have you looked at the typical weekly income for someone in the countries where gas is "between 12 and 25 CENTS PER GALLON...?" Look at England: Aug. 18, 2005: The national average for July was now 88 pence a liter, or $6.02

We have decided not to travel father than 1 1/2 hours from home on any vacation trips

Paula Marshall

My plans have not changed for vacation, however I think twice and plan before I leave the house on errands, by making only one trip. I also go to gas stations that do not get their oil from the Mid. East or Vennezuela. Think people!! We can drill in our own territory, make money for our own citizens, and hey, maybe even save our own Country!
