A half cent sales tax increase in nothing to losing your home to fire. Amador County has been lucky so far, but people want to be reactive, not proactive to fires here I guess. I'm all for it! Thank you to all volunteer/paid firefighters here and throughout the state!

Until you have had a fire at your home you really can't appreciate the value of our VOLUNTEER firefighters. We had a very small fire several years ago and within 7 minutes of our call Pine Grove VOLUNTEER firefighters were at our home 15 minutes and the fire would have taken our home. We live 10 minutes from the fire house how they were able to get up from their dinner table, drive to the fire house, dress in their protective gear and be here in 7 minutes is a true miracle! How many homes. LIVES would have been or WOULD BE lost without these TOTALLY DEDICATED men and women. YES, I will vote YES AGAIN !!

Amador County has been blessed for a long time with some amazing volunteers but we need to get real and start paying these folks for the hard work that they continue to do for us. I think it is completely unrealistic to think they do not deserve to be paid!!!!

I cannot believe that 43% will not vote for fire protection in Amador County. Those 43% should look around and see the danger in the county. Maybe you should move someplace else.

I will gladly vote for our volunteer fire fighters....my only concern is HOW will it be used. Will it go to the direct funding of firefighting personnel, training, equipment and other operational costs, or will it go to other administrative costs? Nonetheless, Thank you Volunteer Firefighters & families. Your service and dedication is golden.

Why 1/2 cent? I'd like more information as to the projection of the amount of funding that would be generated. Is 1/4 cent not enough of an increase to cover costs? Is 1/2 cent too much, but the powers that be want to have growing room? Many concerned, hard-working, involved county residents probably would vote yes if it were made clear how much money this will generate, and that it will be used appropriately. I'd like to see 1/4 cent go to fire protection and 1/4 cent go to our schools. California is one of the three lowest states for ADA for our children in the country, but we want to be #1 in education. That doesn't even factor in what percentage of funding goes to middle men now who are 'monitoring' teachers to make sure they are teaching to standards that are escalated by two years above any other states' standards. I'd just like to see more detail on the money trail for new taxes. We need more accountability and responsibility in our county and state spending of existing taxes.
