My suggestion will not reduce the amount of work for you, but here it is anyway. What about releasing patterns both ways? Individually, when completed, and compilations, when you have a 'suitable' group. It could make people happy or drive them crazy, and it certainly has the potential for driving YOU crazy. With your existing patterns, perhaps having some packaged together, 5 for the price of 4, but still available separately, as some people may really only want one, and some people may want every pattern you have ever designed. This may not be helping, but it is another option.
I'm ambivalent. I like your work either way...whatever you do is fine with me!

I like the idea of a steady stream of patterns, I knit just about every day, and when I'm done with one thing, I like having another to look forward to!
