Fortyfive years ago the price of gas was around $.30 to $.35 per gallon. Frequently the stations would fight for your business with "gas wars", lowering the price of gas $.02 to $.03 per-gallon. A 20% to 30% differance was enough to make it worth while to drive a few miles for the savings. Today they want to make a big deal out of a $.02 to $.03 discount. It is hardly the 20% to 30% discount of those past years. If you drive a few extra miles for a few cents savings today you have to be careful not to spend more driving the few miles for the cheaper gas. Save me 20% to 30% and I will drive the extra miles.
I will drive about a mile. By the time you drive 5 mile it want be a saving.
Oil dropped today to $138.00 / barrel. Can somebody at the news desk tell me why gas prices went from $3.93 / gal to $4.08 / gallon overnight? That's $.15 / gal. I've looked all over the news for a catastrophie in the middle east or at least something that would vaugley resemble a problem in the oil market or production or OPEC industries. I hope the oil companies haven't used Ben Bernankes "gloomy" forcast for the economy as another excuse to raise the prices again. This is only Mr. Bernanke's "forcast". It is in his best opinion. Why does everything we do and pay for seem to have its financial basis directly tied to an industry or world leaders opinion. Can't the floks on Wall Street think for themselves any longer?
Bob Barker For President!!!
you need to go out of your way to REWARD the owners that are selling for less. The most important thing to do-other than drive the extra mile or two--is GO IN the store and BUY something-even just a drink. They are only making a penny or two on the gas--some are actually breaking even just to get you in the store.
To me it seems that it is not worth the drive to save a few pennies, because by the time you drive to a cheaper station to save 2 or 3 cent you could have saved that gas, and get more for your money at your neighboring station. You use 2 or 3 cents by turning on your ignition, stopping at 4 or 5 traffic lights before getting to the cheaper station. By the time you get to the gas station you have burned about $1.00 worth of gas to save 2 or 3 cents. NOW I ASK YOU DOES THAT MAKE ANY SENSE?
None of us really has to drive out of our way to find cheaper gas. I drive to work from RH every day, I pass at least 15 stations including Walmart and Kroger. Today I paid $3.38 at Kroger for gas. That is still to high.
