I just love Chef Zakarian! He is my kind of person.....intense, a perfectionist, and a fantastic chef.
I loved this recipe and, being Italian, shuddered at the gnocchi recipe that is far from "italian".
I get frustrated when Chef Zakarian doesn't win the Chairman's Challenge because simplistic presentations, not his food, gives him lower points. Please Chef Zakarian - Perk up your presentations!

Believe me there is nothing wrong with gnocchi, brown butter, & sage. It is totally delish. A "pillow surrounded by light goodness." I would serve the gnocchi instead of soup for an eight course meal. However the bologanese (main course) - OMG who doesn't adore a properly balance bologanese - It's beautiful to look at, the smell reminds me of my childhood, the texture, balance of flavor sent me over the top. It takes me back as a child - working in the kitchen with my Grandma, Grandpa, & Aunts (Imigrated from Sicily in the 1930's) In my opinion, both Chef's were "perfecto" with their preparations. I have to go with the bologanese. I felt my childhood again and it was absolutely delicious. Kudos Chef! My Grandma is smiling down on you.
