Hard to pick most important. I like to ride a trail that is fairly level, well maintained, smooth and passes through nice scenery and is close enough to home to access readily.

Three most important features of Rail Trails.
1. As a handicap Tadpole trike rider the most important feature for me is a smooth trail surface that does not have grass/weeds/soft dirt/sand in the center section between two tracks. Also pollards far enough apart (at least 42") Trails under BLM jurisdiction have the most obstacles to getting a trike on their trails. Barriers of rail road ties, mazes to narrow, or 90 degree turns that you can't even walk a trike through.
2. Good access from parking to Trail Grade.
3. Trail Heads identified by GPS Coordinates, preferable by Decimal to 5th place.
I like all rail trails except for the ones that arn't paved. I think all trails should be paved so that EVERYONE can use them.
I want it all.
I think small signs for food at road crossings would be helpfull. If you are not from the area and would like something to eat, there is now way of knowing what is in the area. A small sign would let you know what kind of restaruants are down that paticular road, and would help local busineses.
Easy access, close to home, scenery and restrooms of most importance, but I too want it all. I would be lost without my trails. Thank you!
All of these things are important, but I must say as a hiker, as busy as some of these trails can be, I wish that there were more amenities in the smaller towns. A restroom or even a soda machine is better than nothing at all. I'm from West Virginia, so there are lots of smaller towns with no amenities along these trails.
