An Equisetium species with both male and female parts.

A fertile Horsetail stalk.

A sterile Horsetail stalk.

Hard to tell since it has not flowered yet.

A sterile horsetail stalk has a horses tail look such as these in the picture -it always looks like this whereas the fertile stalk is a straight stalk with rings that produce spores that spread in the wind or when shaken.
