I live in country Victoria, & if I'm in Melbourne, I walk rather than try to catch a tram. I find it too confusing & awkward, so I hate to think how non-English speaking tourists cope!! Totally user-unfriendly!!! BRING BACK THE CONNIES!!!!!!

Still not travelling on the trams.

If there were conductors back on the trams, I would seriously consider using public transport again. Have not wanted to since they left. I drive everywhere these days. Do everyone a favour, we like the old fashioned idea of service. Never mind that the drivers must be the loneliest people on the tram - totally in charge of the passengers with absolutely no colleagues any longer. What a sad anniversary. Please keep up the campaign until you are back on the trams.

The Conductors Were Crap

Sorry to burst any bubbles or to smash those rose-tinted glasses, but my experience of conductors over a period of two years from 1996 is that they were the most miserable, rude and unhelpful bunch of public servant idiots I've ever had the displeasure of meeting. All this nonsense about the "Connies" being entertainers is just crap. They were and would be a complete waste of money. Under no circumstances should conductors be brought back. I neither want to have to deal with idiotic conductors being rude and unhelpful and I certainly don't want to have some singing and dancing idiot conductor annoying me when I make my way to work or travel home of an evening. To be quite frank I find that I'm able to get more sense out of the ticket machines than I ever did out of a conductor. Here's looking forward to the 20th anniversary of having no conductors.
