Why BYE BYE will never score a no.1? The main reason is the song is boring, the message is kinda predictable, and not something everyone would want to listen repeatedly. Plus the album is supposed to be a happy festive album with those fun songs TMB, ILYLT, I'm that chick, And BYE BYE IS A SAD SONG THAT WILL NOT FIT IN THIS CATERGORY! And the video is silly and weird, if the message is intended to Mariah's Dad, why Nick is there in the video. The whole idea of the video is like a LOVE STORY, and a bit of picture showing at the end to remind people that this song should be another ONE SWEET DAY, how funny~ Mariah's BYE BYE = absolutely a poor song choice!

I am a Japanese and live in Japan, so what I think over this topic can be a bit misplaced and incorrect.
I feel like her record company has seemed a little out of touch and less intuitive in terms of potential single choice. When most of her fans and radio stations in US showed a lot of initial enthusiasm over Migrate and I stay in love, they went for the least popular song among fans as a single choice.
The problem I have in terms of Bye Bye was her record company's implicit attitude to play it safe with banality. The litany of bye bye in the song makes listeners feel sleepy and tedious even though the song itself has a very spiritual message.
I am afraid people who make the single choice in her company appear to be too old or a bit out of touch with younger generation.
I hope someday Migrate or Side effect will be chosen as a single. They have a potential and energy undeniably.
I think releasing "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" is a tragic mistake. I am certain it will fare as poorly, if not worse than "Bye Bye" on the charts, which will begin to make this album, which has MANY potential chart toppers, to look like a failure. Island/Def Jam has already stopped promoting Janet's album after her first failed single, "Feedback". How many commercial flops will they grant Mariah before this album is no longer promoted. They (meaning anyone at the label involved in deciding on the singles) are killing this album by releasing some of the worst tracks!!! So sad.
Please get some sense, people, and release some of the following (as many others on here have already implored you to do): "Migrate", "Cruise Control", "I'm That Chick", "Stay In Love" and/or "Love Story".

I think migrate is one of the best commercial song if its get released at the right time. 4. Love Story, For The Record, or Last Kiss (nice autumn singles)
5. Side Effects (winter/early spring hit)
6. I Stay In Love (late spring, summer single)
In my opinion, Mariah should have released I'M THAT CHICK as her first single before she actually releases the album coz it's smooth, sexy and very cute song to begin with in the summer. And then as a follow up, I'LL BE LOVIN YOU LONG TIME is a better choice than I STAY IN LOVE coz I STAY IN LOVE is so much like WE BELONG TOGETHER and this would be criticised as trying to imitate the last album; then the third single should be BYE BYE as it has its universal meaning for the audience yet is a sad song and lacks the charisma and momentum to top the chart in the happy summer. I think this approach will at least push the first two singles to the top no.1s. Then it's not shameful to release BYE BYE coz Mariah proves it again she can get two consecutive no.1s before. YOU NEVER GOT TO SEE ME BACK IN NO.1.
I really don't think Mariah desides everything alone for the next single, I actually think that she should've chosen: Migrate as the first single (because T-Pain is really big in the U.S. today) and I'll Be Lovin' You Long Time as the second.. but she didn't because I don't think she cares about sales anymore. My favorites on the album is (I Wish You Well, I'll Be Lovin', I'm That Chick and I Stay In Love) but that does not mean they are good single candidates. Why is it that ya'll are so obsessed with Mariah charting good? Just enjoy her music, stop stressin'.

I love "I'll Be Loving You Long" but I LOVE "Cruise Control".......IMO Mariah is the Queen of collobs....I've been wanting her to do a reggae sound after she did Breakdown. In my opinion "Cruise Control" is just really laid back and a great summer jam. For me reggae just screams - beach, fun, "no problem"!! :) Besides I would love to see the male interest in the video....he's got to be REALLY FINE to have 6 baby mammas and still peak your interest!! :) Also I would love to hear the story behind the colloboration with one of the sons of Bob Marley!!

Ok here goes, ive been a HUGE HUGE HUGE fan of Mariahs since Daydream, however, I cant help but feel extremely disappointed in her the past month or two, and im sure im not the only one of her fans to feel this way. First the wedding to someone 11 years younger than her after dating for 30 days with no pre-nup (I MEAN CMON MARIAH), now it seems as though she is becoming careless with this album. Lately she is reminding me more and more of Michael Jackson (the whole "im eternally 12" or the rollercoaster, shutting down a theme park fiasco). Im happy she found love but she needs to start using her brain before Nick leaves her and takes half of everything she has which will lead to us (the fans) having to deal with another Mariah Breakdown. i absolutely LOVE the album, but if she chooses Love Story as a single, then she does not deserve to be #1 bc that song is not a hit and never will be. Migrate, I stay in love, cruise control, side effects, that chick, for the record, and bye bye all blow love story out of the water. I love you so much Mariah, but if you wanna continue to break records, then stop putting songs YOU love before songs THE WORLD loves.

Hi everyone! I think there aren't "worst" songs on E=MC2 just like some of you say. The entire album is amazing and one of the best she had ever made. You should say "there are less comercial songs" not worst, get it?

I think we (or at least me) as MC's die hard fans, must support IBLYLT. Just give her a chance, she knows what she does, it's not surprise she has 18 #1's and if she fails like Bye Bye, who cares?, anyway both songs are incredible (I still don't understand why Bye Bye didn't reach the top).

So, I'm listening to old school pop music, and "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" fits in well with 70's Disco! Anyways, I think "For the Record" would be a good 4th single, and then "I Stay in Love" could be released early next year. After that, "I'm That Chick" could be next year's "stone groove" summer smash. And the last single should be "Cruise Control" and, "I Wish You Well" could be a promo that she sings along with watever for the following year's grammies! I think that would be a cool idea! Even if she releases the worst songs on the album (Side Effects, Thanx 4 Nothin', and OOC), they're still gonna be hits, just not #1's (except maybe T4N since it's half-way decent). Whatever, I'm not Mariah Carey so she gets to decide what happens with "E=MC2."

Migrate would be a perfect summer jam, #1 written all over it. The 4th single should then be I Stay In Love, it's a great ballad and deserves to be a single. 5th single should be I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time, a perfect way to complete the album, then Mariah could re-release the album with new material. I have it all planned out, and I could just see it :)
