I agree , karma will definitely follow that money trail.

  • Linda in Missouri - 12 years ago

Absolutely disgusting! To the editor and all the scum that work for this crap magazine, you have NO morals. Just remember karma is a bitch!

The family should sue you for every dime you make, and put you all out of business - you stop at nothing to sell a magazine I wouldn't wipe my a$$ with.

Rest in peace Whitney, this is NOT the way we will remember you. We'll remember the beautiful music you shared with the world.

To the person/coward that took the picture. Imagine one day your family being put on display for the world to see. Shame on your sorry butt. You about as low as one can be!

  • Carolyn - 12 years ago

In my opinion it is disrespectful to the family. Why couldn't they just let her rest in peace. Hasn't her Daughter and Family been put through enough, without someone taking pictures of that child's Mother in her casket. My prayers go to the family of Whitney Houston I pray that God gives them the peace and strength they need to get through this. May you rest in peace Whitney.
People need to learn to show some respect for others especially in a situation like this. I could understand if the family wanted pictures of her in her open casket to remember her by. But for the whole nation to see, I just can't see that. To me it's wrong, it's disrespecting the deceased as well as the family. Especially her Daughter.

The picture however distasteful, was not the right way,the body was prepared beautifully, the Wiggins Funeral home did a great job.The public was denied a viewing ,even if it had been through a glass window.

  • Charlotte - 12 years ago

If you notice there is no one in the room but her and the casket someone from the funeral home did this they took this picture and sold it.

The strings of uncertainty still prevail for Ray J and Whitney Elizabeth Houston. So much media coverage on the Diva's personal history and not enough exposure of the altercation between Ms. Houston and Stacy Francis that Thursday night, and why Ray J who is currently deeply mourning the icons loss, had defended Stacy Francis over Ms. Houston knowing she was upset over seeing the two together. One would think that a friendship such as Ray J and Whitney had shared together for years, would warrant more sensitivity and defense towards the love of his life. I can't help feel Ray J, could of, should of, reacted differently and been more supportive. In addition, why is Stacy Francis keeping such a low profile?? Hmm, makes you wonder...Who did Ray J "Save All His Love" for?

  • Resa - 12 years ago

nowadays it is not considered appropriate, but historically photos of our dead were taken, and that it was not frowned upon

  • FW - 12 years ago

Correction to last post it should say:

The picture was run without the family's PERMISSION or KNOWLEDGE.

  • FW - 12 years ago

Regardless what reasons the NE give for running the picture on the front page, the bottom line is they did so with the family's PERMISSION or KNOWLEDGE. They say it was to give millions of people who could not attend the funeral a chance to see Whitney in her casket. What it's really about is selling papers. IT'S ABOUT THE MONEY!!!

  • deborah farah - 12 years ago

I think the fact that it was published without the family's knowledge was wrong. However, she was at peace and the photo reminded us once again how incredibly beautiful she was.

  • A.J. - 12 years ago

The problem is people, although I felt like she was a part of my family......THE FAMILY requested that this would be their private time. Respect is always acceptable. For someone to disregard that is what's reprehensible. I would like to see the program and her life profiled in a positive light shared with those who are interested BUT not her shell as her spirit has already ascended.

  • Mark - 12 years ago

It is a fact of life, or in this case death, that people are curious and as long as people are curious and as long as there are famous people, there will always be a market for such pictures. Additionally, there are obviously a lot of people who could not have gone to the wake to see her, whereas the photo gives a sort of "being there" for those who would have like to have paid their respects. Taking pictures of people in their caskets, while pretty morbid, is nothing new, even among those of us who are ordinary mortals. Interestingly, I don't recall such outrage about the pics of Elvis in his casket, even while this the Enquirer rag was making claims that his body was sweating in the casket and whether or not it was him or some type of wax image and that, in fact, Elvis was not dead. What would be the firestorm if the Enquirer made such a claim about Whitney?

Emotions run high; especially when there is shock and disbelief. We mentally cannot wrap our minds around what has happened--even though no-one can escape transition. I don't say 'death' because I don't believe in death--but a perpetuation of life.

I feel it is a beautiful picture and nothing wrong whatsoever. It was a chance for the millions of fans world-wide to see her one last time and say 'goodbye'. To some it's important for a visual 'link' in letting go while grieving or feeling loss, as a way of coping, the brain to somehow process what has happened as a natural step in the process.

Pictures of loved ones who have passed is nothing new. People who are famous are no different than someone who is not--we are each perfect and unique individuals with our own spark of light upon the world. Some just need to wake up and are beginning to. While others choose to sleep.

They say 'the good die young'....and I feel the same as many of you--she had so much potential, yet--she couldn't shake the beasts that haunted her. Rest, Angel, rest.

  • kier - 12 years ago

She looks beautiful. She is just sleeping. whoover prepared her did a wonderful job. Even though it was leaked out her family should be very proud of how she looked. Always the diva even in death.

  • Paula Leslie - 12 years ago

It is what people want to see.... everyone forgets that she was an addict,,, lost her money, was losing her voice,,,, c'mon people,,, get with it.... public wants to see her in a casket,,, so there you have it.

  • vl - 12 years ago

As much as the photo of Whitney was distastefully done, we have to remember one thing; She was, and is, a child of our Lord Jesus and she is not in the body we see in this photo! Yes, she was beautiful but her beauty remains in our hearts and spirit is singing with the Lord! Dont let the evil of the world interrupt the beauty of her life! She would want us to remember the wonderful things about her and praise God for what he has given her!

  • Debra Rose - 12 years ago

The National Enquirer will go to any extremes to get the public to buy their trash! What's so sad is that the Houston family can't have any privacy at all! They were gracious enough to let the world share their beloved Whitney's funeral, which I thought was the most beautiful service of all! But can they have some privacy without someone trying to invade it?

  • Rick - 12 years ago

In Europe they did this all the time and in fact would have the family pose with the deceased. BUT that being said - the reasoning for it was completely different than this picture - this pictue was purely for MONEY HONEY - that's all this photo is about. Not sure where they got the photo but I'm glad my family doesn't have friends like that!

  • MochaLadyMJJ - 12 years ago

As sad I am to have to say this, I think that Whitney looked so beautiful in death as she did in life. However, I don't think this photo should have been a FRONT PAGE photo. I undoubtedly believe that her fans had a right to see her one final time because the love of her fans contributed to her worldwide success that she was known to attain. Moreover, seeing a person one final time in their last state before they are laid to rest brings closure to a lot of people, and some people may feel that they could have never had that closure without seeing her one last time and having a chance to say "Goodbye". The photos would have been more tasteful and less insensitive if they had been placed INSIDE of the magazine as a special feature story instead of a front-page circus attraction (as perceived and portrayed) meant to grab readers and make a dollar. Making a dollar is what these tabloid, paparazzi, and entertainment journalists are all about, so it is not surprising that they would be willing to step on people's toes in the name of money. All in all, I believe that fans had a right to see her one final time because some fans loved her like she was family, and for those fans to be blocked away from her as if they mean nothing is hurtful. I just wish that the photos were presented more respectfully and sensitively instead of "LOOK LOOK LOOK what we got!!!"-type of circus sideshow attraction. Lastly, I send my prayers of strength and endurance to Whitney's loved ones, especially Bobbi Kristina. Whitney Houston, may you R.I.P., darling. I Will Always Love You.

  • linda - 12 years ago

I think it' s awful, this was something that her family wanted to be private. If they had wanted the world to see her like this they would have had an open casket at he funeral. Their privacy has truly been invaded, and I think they should sue for every dollar that 's made off these photos. When it comes to a dollar people don't care who they hurt. Whitney's family are hurting enough do you have to pour salt in their wounds?

  • pebbles01 - 12 years ago

I agree with alot of your comments, Kathleen Muir, I so understand what you say, and hope other's will too.I think she looked peaceful and Lovely, I pray it gave her family and friends comfort to see God's countenance upon her, I 've witnessed that of some of my own family . I pray Bobbi Kristina will learn from this and take all the help that's available and be a positive example and surround herself with the church family, she need's caring family and true friend's, to guide her. And sometime's you even have to rid" unhealthy" relationship's, some being family included to heal and move forward. From what's been reported in the past her father isn't a good role model. The family Houston will be her saving grace . They are God centered, I believe he will prevail. And she will overcome.

  • KSu1960 - 12 years ago

There is nothing wrong with this photo. It is morbid, but all photos of dead people are! She looked beautiful in the casket, as most morticians try their best to make the deceased look as good as possible! She was a big star with a lot of fans. I believe it was unrealistic to keep her from being viewed by her fans. Jet magazine has published pictures of famous entertainers in their coffins and others for years! I believe there should have been a public viewing of her body. It would have been good for her fans.

I also believe it can be inspiration for those challenged with addictions.

    Peace to her family.

  • Frank - 12 years ago

As bad as it may seem its true to life some good can come out of this photo of the lovely Whitney Houston! whitney was very talented but what you cant take away is she was a role model for the people of today! something this photo can be uesed for is Ant Drugs Campagin as she herself had used drugs in the past and still done a drugs campagin herself many years ago. if this photo can give the shock factor to anyone on drugs and they change there ways thank you for that! but i will say you cant trust anyone a family member or friend tuck this photo and sold it to the press that is just plane nasty and money grabbing .
What I find hilarious is that this pole asks us if the enquirer went too far for posting this picture but yet they copied the picture and post it

  • paul - 12 years ago

I tend to agree, we ALL were just a tad curious, death is a part of life, get a grip people. After all when we have ever attended someone's funeral it is customary to view the person being remember. She was beautiful! A true ICON & Star.

  • GODSCHILD - 12 years ago

I honestly could walk right into the NATIONAL ENQUIRER and just begin shooting the editor, the editor-in-chief, publisher and anyone associated with this despicable, disrespectful picture of the lovely, and multi-talented WHITNEY HOUSTON! Yes, We (meaning her family AND her fans...) "WE" indeed loved her! And, Yes_so many of us desired to have that one last opportunity to wish her well and, finally bid her farwell...But, C'mon Now! NOT IN THIS MANNER! To the low-life bastard who actually had the audacity to take this pic...without the sole purpose of turning around & selling it! BYTCH, U ((STILL!)) BROKE!...
R.I.P Ms. Whitney Elizabeth Houston!!!! {IN LIFE, WE LOVED U! and, IN DEATH_WE LOVE U STILL!)....God Bless You Ms. Sissy Houston & baby girl Bobbi Kristina! Rest Assured that: GOD HAS NOT FORGOT!

This should be the poster photo for schools to show the kids this is what drugs will lead you to.

She was a drug addict!! I don't care if she sang for a living. She never impressed me in life but can now provide a meaningful contribution in death as a poster for drug abuse.

  • Chanta - 12 years ago

I truly think that if the family knew about this ten it would be ok,but evidently the family did not take the pic and send it to the enquirer somenone that was there did it,and that was wrong and yes many ppl wanted to see this including me because that was my girl, but sometimes a family like to grieve peacefully without the public eye,so whoever did this and sent it to the enquirer because i know that got money for it is a low life scum and GOD will deal with you in the end.R.I.P Whitney now no one can hurt you, takh about you or put you down

  • JM - 12 years ago

I dont see nothing wrong.. I'm sure everyone wanted to see her 1 last time.. ppl need to realx and stop making it a BIG DEAL!!!! Mrs Houston is in GODS HANDS and in PEACE!!! As for the family I understand its hard for a love one to leave.. But we have to remember she is in a way better place then EARTH!! All this is silly and dumb to think why they took the picture.. What else can go wrong??? NOTHING!!! My prayers go to the daughter!!

  • Brandy - 12 years ago

This photo is incredibly distasteful. Her family already 'gave' the press/media what they wanted by inviting them in to experience their personal grief and sorrow at her very publicized funeral. They laid their daughter, mother, sister, wife to rest - with the hopes that they could, too, move on. But this smut surfaces and I'm certain, adds salt to their already open wounds. Disgusting. Deplorable. Incomprehensible. The person who leaked the photo should be ashamed!

    Done and done.

  • suln - 12 years ago

I was always taught to respect the gone this picture is disrespectful and it should have been at the families choice rather or not to publish a picture of her in her last viewing. Not some one who probably gets a kick out of disturbing the dead. Reap what you sow just saying

  • Sue - 12 years ago

To all the people saying it was wrong for people to see Whitney in her casket, well, you were all curious too and couldnt help looking or you wouldnt be here. Rest now Whitney.

  • kat - 12 years ago

Why? Have we become such an uncarrying society that we have to talk bad about those that have passed and put the family through hell! No matter what she did or did not do she was a person with a family that loved her! Shame on anyone who makes money off of someone's heart breaking loss. My heart goes out to her family and friends - they have lost someone wonderful!

  • MJ - 12 years ago

As disrespectful and intrusive as this photo of Whitney is, I believe she looks absolutely beautiful, but most importantly, at peace! No matter what demons she wasn't able to overcome, this photo represents how at peace she is. I pray for her mother, daughter, son, brothers etc. I know that the Lord will strengthen their faith and bring them comfort. RIP Whitney, at least you are in God's loving arms now and no longer have to be violated like the press did for years on end. As for NE, you should be ashamed of yourselves for paying for this photo. I pray that you do the right thing and give the proceeds to a charity of Whitney's family's choosing.

  • Tina - 12 years ago

Whitney fans were her family too. My Mom recently passed in August and also wore her favorite purple dress. I miss my Mom and I am feeling her loss. I will also miss Whitney and I feel the almost the same pain of loss with Whitney. I would of love to be at Whitney 's funeral to say my goodby, but I am a average no familly member. I felt a peace when I saw Whitney's funeral picture and I had the chance to view her and say my goodbye. As usual she looked beautiful. May you rest in peace Whitney. Your fan that will always love you.

Whitneys fans are the reason why she had the success she had. We loved and supported her thru the good, the bad and the ugly. We do not deserve to be shut out in times of tradgedy. We deserve to be included right up to the very end so we can have closure too. Even tho it was heartbreaking to see her lying there, I got to see for myself how beautiful she looked and can have closure now. Even tho Elvis was lying in a casket it is the last picture I have of him and I cherish it. He was like part of my family. That's how we loved him. Whitney was part of our family because we loved her too. These stars and their real families don't realize how their fans truely care about them. It's really an insult to shut us out and not let us share in the final goodbyes too. Sending my deepest and heartfelt sympathies to her real family. May God bless and comfort your grieving hearts....

The photo isn't appropriate, but Houston does look gorgeous in all of her refinement.

  • Another Child Of GOD - 12 years ago

If the family wanted Whitney on the front page of any paper they would have arrange for it themselves. The fact that it was done unapprove by her family is what makes it WRONG AND DISRESPECTFUL. Her mother and daughter should have the final say. Putting her on display has nothing to do with how she look. The family chose who they wanted to view herly and that should have been honored. The NE violated her families wishes for greed.
Whitney, was beautiful alive so naturally she would be beautiful decease. What her family was trying to avoid is the very thing that NE did. Whitney, may have express to her mother/family/pastor, personal friend her wishes if death was to occur. This paper should be sued and put out of business. This is just greed. I pray and I promise you NO WEAPONS formed against Whitney, shall prosper. RIP Whitney , You are in GODS HANDS. I know your SOUL IS SATISFIED. Whoever is responsible for this disgrace has sold their soul to the devil.
Whitney (NIPPY) LOVING YOU FOREVER AND ALWAYS!!

I don't think it's offensive...that's what a wake is ....a viewing...maybe it was suppose to be for family only but I don't think it's such a horrible thing...especially because she looks beautiful...and so peaceful. :-)

  • Anita - 12 years ago

I see nothing wrong with the photo.Too many have been making Whitney out to be something she wasn't.She HAD at one time a very beautiful voice and she chose to abuse it with drugs and alcohol. Everyone is saying it was Bobby Brown's fault but come on she was a grown woman that made her own decisions. If he abused her she had the money to walk away and leave it all behind. As for her daughter she is already into using drugs at the age of 18 because that is the lifestyle she lived in. The same day her mother died she was using drugs down the hall in another room. Don't be surprised if 10 years down the road the headlines read Daughter of the late Whitney Houston found dead in a hotel room. Whitney chose the road she wanted to follow and she paid the ultimate price for that decision. Obviously drugs and alcohol meant more to her than her career and her own daughter. Thank God I have never chose either drugs or alcohol. I think it is very disgusting that celebrities are upheld as some kind of hero to our children and yet they kill theselves with drugs and alcohol and then we wonder why so many children use drugs and alcohol because celebrities make it look cool. I pray for her mother for the loss of her child, because I am the mother of a child who is no longer with me. My child did not die as a result of drugs and alcohol but I still feel the pain of his loss after 2 and half years.

  • Gabs - 12 years ago

She was beautiful, but all the big yellow headers around it and what they are saying, make the all cover disgusting.
The scene was only for her family and close friends; my father die recently, and I would hate to see a picture of that moment available for ever online.

  • Ken Dublin - 12 years ago

Just another dead nig. A beautiful site.

  • MsRMB - 12 years ago

In my opinion, I think it is a shame to keep Whitney's fans from seeing her laid to rest in her casket, especially being that she looked simply BEAUTIFUL, at peace and regal =SLEEPING BEAUTY!! I believe Whitney would NOT have wanted her fans to be deprived of seeing her looking fabulous in death as she was alive. If it was not request/wish to be hidden in death from her fans that made her who she is by having supported her in good and in bad times, then to me it is a shame to deprive us from seeing her in her casket, unless she looked horrific which definitely was not the case. I understand a family wants privacy during such a devastating time, but I don’t feel it is an invasion of their privacy for others not invited to the funeral to see footage (pictures, videos, etc.) of the person in their final resting bed, unless it is at that request of the person who passed away. Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion, which is neither wrong nor right. What was wrong is the person or person having gone against the family’s wish by taking and selling the photo of Whitney Houston in her casket! I don’t approve of that nor with the Enquirer for having purchased it and for having published it without the consent and consideration of the family. However, I was so pleased and thankful to see how AMAZING Whitney looked in the photo and for that, I managed to smile for the first time since her death. Again, Whitney is SLEEPING BEAUTY! Thank you to those who made her look simply beautiful and if she is just resting before an event/special occasion. My prayers and condolences are extended to Whitney’s family, friends and fans. GOD BLESS!

Is The photo any more obtrusive than pictures of recent world leaders lying in state. A picture of her in the bath tub, (dead), might be over the line, not this. What is morbid has been the media and its reporting on her passing and funeral. The media exploited the funeral and side bars to their benefit. And to happen in ratings month of Feb. made it valuable.

Yall crazy If you think, the family mind that beautiful photo being showed of Whitney, if they did IT WOULD NOT BE THERE, HELLO, Its okay, that's what Funerals are for To pay your last respects, view the body if you want to and go home.Im so glad to know her face wasnt twisted or disfigured, now I can rest easier, knowing that if thier was pain,it dont show,if there was a stroke,or any thing that could cause disfigurment, isnt evident, for her remains show her beautiful self. She Look as if she step into Heaven,Love you Whitney you still leaving Beautiful memories.

this is typical of the national enquirer.i knew a picture of whitney in her casket would end up in this rag of a newspaper.its no big surprise.this is not a art.this picture should never had been taken.in my opinion since this was a private wake, this limits who could have taken the picture.i doubt it was a relative,it had to be employee of funeral home despite owner saying it was not.the employees had complete access.employee was probably paid by enquirer to take picture. this paper is trash and always has been. whitney was buried with 500,000 worth of jewelery i really doubt that.if she was now they are giving people ideas about robbing the grave, but as isaid i doubt she was, idon't believe anything these idiots publish.stores should not sell this particular issue.i know photos of elvis and others have been taken but two wrongs do not make it right.noone except the coroner knows the cause of death so please don't judge how she died.you don't have all the facts.calling her names like crackhead etc is not appropriate at this time.yes she did have problems with drugs.lok who she was married to,her ex husband beat her for years, probably got her started with drugs, but who knows she may have begun to turn her life arround, noone will ever know..rest in peace whitney you had a great voice and will be missed

It doesn't surprise me, but I wonder what David P.'s family will think when photos of him lying in the coffin pop up in the London Sun.

  • Libby - 12 years ago

I guarantee you there is another woman on the other side of town having the same funeral possibly for the same reason and no one is raising hell and reporting how distasteful and rude her funereal is....folks, this is the real world with real people. She was a real person just like anyone else. It is time that people realize that individuals in the media are not our mentors, teachers, leaders, role-models, or Gods. These are people with talents that we choose to like and therefore create them as something exceptional. She had an extremely dysfunctional life that the media and she made everyone very aware of. Living in the media and choosing to do so do not commonly stop at death...if anything it magnifies at that time because that is what everyone was expecting from her dysfunctional life. There are extremely popular stars that are not in the media. Think hard and you will discover that there are some that are not ever in the media. This is not a conquincidence. We are who me make ourselves. May W.H. rest in peace. Anyone who has had such a turbulent life deserves this so much. She is gone now and is so unaware of this mess now. This is now only for the living. :)

I live in a small town in Illinois. I think the Nat'l. Enq. is just trying to profit from Ms. Houston's death and this is in very bad taste. I'm sorry that her family should have to see something like this on a tabloid. Her entire family is in mourning and especially Ms. Houston's daughter, shame on the nasty magazine on their profit mongering ways. Sickening.

  • Kym - 12 years ago

I agree to disagree with alot of what people said, and it is such a sad thing when a young talented life is taken due to the harshness of drugs and alcohol. I don't think that it was disrespectful that someone felt the need to share what her fans wanted to see and that was Whitney, You chose to share her with the world, but not show her in death, Also I felt sorry for Bobby and his kids, but we all know the saying of what goes around comes around. Now, you made that man feel like as if this was all his fault, hell he didn't put a gun to her head and say come on lets smoke crack, sniff cocaine, pop some pills, she was already a wild child. It is just got to be better because she could afford it. But why bring a innocent lil girl in the midst of there bull crap and not care about what she would later see and witness as a child. They made there drug induced lives seem fun to Bobbi and she felt the need to try it.. So, don't go pointing the fingers at Bobby Brown, try and figure out how they are going to come together for the sake of the lil girl and hope that she doesn't get that chance to roam freely and overdoes, cause then who will her family point the finger at each other cause remember they are trying to keep her from her daddy so it won't be his fault. I commend him for being the bigger person and not showing out. He'll have his day and time with his baby. It is just that at this time she will need to have someone there who will guide her and be there for her, not trying to get her high or steal her money cause she is going to have alot of wolves knocking down her door..

  • Syd - 12 years ago

The reason I don't have any issues with this is becaue they tied up CNN for 4 hours for the funeral service. Although it was a great beautiful service the family opted to make this a public worldwide event. Now that someone has released a photo of her "what is the problem"? If you want the service to be private than keep it that way and keep eveything from the public. Now the thing that gets me is how "shocked" everyone is at this release. You know it was going to happen once you opened it up to the world. On a side note what I do have a problem with is the decision to fly the flags at half staff. For what? Whitney was a great singer but no role model. I was not shocked by her death because of the life she lead.

While I feel it is more disrespect than anything, I loved Whitney and I wish I could have even went to the wake, let alone the funeral. The world should respect Whitney and her entire family. However, it doesn't seem like her family is respecting Bobby Brown---so it goes hand in hand. Ultimately, I'm a mother and if I wanted my child's funeral private EVERYONE SHOULD RESPECT IT TO THE 10th power. THE END

I am a huge Whitney Houston fan but even with that i wouldn't want to be reminded of her in that way.I want to remember Whitney for the Beautiful women that she was,she was Extremely Talented and in my eyes she was a Legend. Her family wanted privacy which is completely understandable in a situation like that and i believe that there request should have been respected. They are going through a ruff time as it is they don't need any more problems.I think that who ever took the photo of her was completely irresponsible and very disrespectful to not only the family but to her as well.If Whitney was a live today i seriously doubt that she would be happy about the situation. My love and heart goes out to her family and friends in this time of grief may god bless them and protect them in all they do.R.i.p Whitney you may be gone but never will you be forgotten for you live through your family, friends and your true fans this isn't a good bye it's i will see you later

Honestly, I thought the photo would be one I would find reprehensible, but surprisingly, this is a beautiful picture of her. A lot can be said about her misgivings and mistakes, but honestly, why do we have to even go there? "There but for the grace of God, go I" seems to be an apropos statement. Though I too, can cast judgment and render unfounded opinions as to her life, motivations and the like, I cannot say that I walked in her shoes. I cannot say that I suffered her trials (and being rich and famous does not make one any less human in either of those departments). My guess is, she was doing the best she knew how at the time. Recklessness has been a factor in EVERYONE's life at ONE POINT or ANOTHER. So, make sure you don't throw stones in glass houses.

As for the "we should be focused on patriotic heroes and not someone like HER", I am married to a man who is a retired Navy sailor. He did 20 honorable years and fought selflessly for everyone in this country. Even he sees this as a tragedy, one (and I agree) that the media seemed/seems to have fixated on, but that does not detract from what she gave to us by way of her God-given talent . . . that beautiful 5 octave voice. True, she was not at the top of her game voice-wise over the last few years, but I still have fond memories of growing up and listening to her songs. The lyrics and music were just that . . . until she put that powerful voice to them . . . then the whole game changed. I am thankful that I got to witness a little heaven on earth when I heard her sing while I was growing up.

Now our attention should turn to Bobbi Kristina. Addiction (and/or the proclivity for it) is a disease carried throughout families. My family has had its share of alcoholics . . . and that demon is never far from some of their backs. Let us all hope and pray that Bobbi Kristina will find the will, the spirit and the guidance she needs now.

Thanks for listening/reading my diatribe. ;-)

The problem is that the family asked for privacy, and that's what they should've gotten. If they wanted this picture out for the world to see, they would've done it themselves.

  • Monique - 12 years ago

Whitney Houston was flawed and in deep trouble--like so many others are, have been, and will be. The National Enquirer and whoever sold the photo are the lowest form of life and have no humanity whatsoever.

Whitney's life ended in tragic circumstances, no matter how she got to that point. That is still someone's mother, daughter, and friend lying in state on the cover of a national scandal rag. If it were my mother, child, or friend I would be livid and extremely hurt. Why weren't her mother and child even considered??

Where do we get off thinking that just because someone is a 'celebrity' their life is s free-for-all that doesn't entitle them to any privacy or that makes them any less human than the rest of us? We want to know what's wrong it this country? We don't have to look much further than our own morals, values, and our own hearts.

We lack compassion for the hurting, empathy for the suffering, and love for the dying. I have yet to meet one person who has made ALL the right moves and ALL the right decisions in their lives-yet some of the comments are reprehensible, as if they have never done anything that hurt others or have no cause to regret. Was Whitney my idol or hero? No--but she was a person. And the fact that she was a person entitles her to the modicrum of respect that ALL life deserves. I'm not seeing that in a lot of comments.

A line has truly been crossed and the mere idea that we even have to have a debate about it shows just how deeply flawed and depraved this society has become. The sad part of it all? There are too many people that just don't get it.

  • Nita - 12 years ago

I agree with JD's comment (yesterday)....this was a woman who had everything and ruined herself with booze, drugs, and a poor choice for a husband. Accolades are not deserved even though in the beginning she did have a great voice. JD says we should be paying more attention to those who are dying serving our country....they are patriotic, sacrifice, and deserve our accolades more than Whitney did or does.

  • Sheri - 12 years ago

I am so sorry for Whitney and her family, I truly am, my heart goes out to them. But, I am also sorry for all of our servicemen and women who have lost their lives serving their country with honor and dignity. Each and everyone of them deserve to have their American flag lowered in their honor!!!!! Let's get our priorities straight!!

  • L E B - 12 years ago

TO ALL THOSE WHO BELIEVE, SHE WAS BURIED WITH THOSE JEWELS ARE DELUSIONAL. THEY FALL FOR ANYTHING, TODAYS GENERATION ARE LETS SAY GULLIABLE. LETS JUST HOPE WHATEVER YOUR BURIED WITH REMAINS IN YOUR GRAVE AND NOT WITH THE FUNERAL DIRECTOR. THIS IS TYPICAL OF THE SO CALLED, FAMILY AND FRIENDS, SHE WAS SURROUNDED BY. THEY IGNORED THE ABUSE AND CONTIUE TO ABUSE HER FURTHER. THE SHAME IS ON THIS SO CALLED "FAMILY AND FRIENDS". THIS WAS PRIVATE NOT PUBLIC SO I ASK, "WHO WAS TO BE CONSIDERED OF CONCERN? CERTAINLY NOT THE PUBLIC, BUT THOSE WITHIN THEIR OWN RANKS. SO MUCH FOR PRIVACY, RESPECT FOR THE FAMILY, AND THEIR OWN POCKETS. SINCERLY, RIP WHITNEY!

  • Linda - 12 years ago

I don't find anything wrong with the photo, I am from a southern family and we have photo's from every funeral ever attended.. When my Mother passed away last year I was the first to take a photo and I look at it everyday since this is the last picture I have of her and her beautiful smile. Knowing she is walking with Jesus brings me comfort, Whitney Houston was an Icon to all of us, and a Mother, and a Daughter, I'm sure her family too has lots of photos being from a southern family background. The photo is beautiful and makes me feel better knowing she is at peace now with God and singing in his choir of angels where destiny meant for her to be. She was a christian and no one rembers she was re-baptised in the Jordon river where John baptised Jesus.. God Bless her Soul and her Family...

  • Shoboat98 - 12 years ago

If not the family, it could have been a funeral home employee, who knows...Yes, it was very disrespectful to the family to post this after privacy was requested. It may bring some closure to millions who loved her. She looked beautiful in both life & death. R.I.P. "Nippy"

  • AnneMarie - 12 years ago

I am saddened by the unfortunate way that her life ended. We've all had our struggles at one time or another, some worse than others. I didn't think they should have published her picture, but as much as the picture made me uncomfortable, I was relieved to see how beautiful she looked. I just hope her family knows that they have the support of her fans and our prayers are with them. Hopefully, things will quiet down soon and people will stop trying to get paid off of Whitney's death, so her family can begin to heal. That's what's most important and I think that's something we all can agree upon.

  • Pipsbrooke - 12 years ago

Photo, to me, looks like any other open casket funeral I have been to. My big problem with it , is that it was obtained by someone the family felt was to be trusted enough to be invited to what was supposed to be a private gathering. That is who should be getting chastised. As far as N.E. publishing it? Not too many gossip rags could pass that up if given the opportunity. She was not the first celebrity to have a post-mortum photo published, and probably will not be the last.

  • Karen Koepke - 12 years ago

The person that took the picture should be ashamed of themselves. To me, it's the same as stealing from the family. The Enquirer is disgusting for printing it. Also, I live in New Jersey and am ashamed of Christie for lowering the flags. There have been soldiers who have died that have not gotten that respect from him, but he will find out how we all feel when election time comes around.

  • Cloud Shadows - 12 years ago

What is the fuss! Grow up! This is an open casket ceremony. How else is the world going to pay their respects? Pictures of funerals are far more acceptable than pictures after a gun fight or a car accident. Didn't everybody look for JFK's or J. Lennon lifeless body? We see far worse things in the daily newspapers and let us not begin to speak of those scary unspeakable things seen on the internet.

  • wayne - 12 years ago

seeing a crack head dead on the street or in a casket. what"s the big deal?

  • ToddMo - 12 years ago

The picture is not shameful, the tactic in getting it and using it is. But the N.E. is the underbelly of an already out of control press.

Another thing that is shameful is burying someone with $500K of valuables one their corpse. This does nothing for Whitney. Her family should consider saving them for her kids or to donate to her favorite charity who would greatly appreciate it.

  • james hall - 12 years ago

Maybe it was her valuables that should not have been exposed to the public in the news as being in the coffin to be buried with Ms Huston. Now I'm wondering just how long she will be allowed to stay in possession of this wealth. This will certainly be tempting and bring out the worst of ideas in many people. Their only investment to these riches may only be the cost of a cheap shovel.

  • TD - 12 years ago

How can this be disgusting WHEN Jersey lowers a flag and they have a public viewing, etc. The family wants the attention and they got it.

  • R Wayne - 12 years ago

I don't see what all the hoopla is about. many people today take pictures of loved ones after they have passed. I have thought of starting a photo business of doing this just like some people do weddings. Why are people so afraid of Dead people. It's the live ones you have to worry about.

  • Cindy - 12 years ago

What I find disgusting and reprehensible is that someone thought it would be a good idea to print the fact that she was buried with expensive jewelry. Really?? Do they have editors? In my opinion this was very irresponsible.

  • Michael - 12 years ago

You whom find this to be appalling; When grandma died, was there visitation? I bet there was.
I bet the casket was open for the survivors to view grandma also. It helps with the funeral process and with grieving. It is for the living to view Whitney one last time, in all her beauty I might add. The funeral directors whom cosmetized her did an excellent job. Even though the picture did not have good resolution. Presentation of people whom overdose on medication is not the easiest to accomplish.

  • su - 12 years ago

So sad about the death of MS. Whitney. She looks beautiful in the casket. I really wished she could have got help in time. If the family didnt want this picture out there yes the person who done should feel bad for what they done, it was not their picture to put out. Should have been left to the family and their wishes. Pls let this be a lesson to folks GET HELP WITH YOUR PROBLEMS. Gone too early just YOUNG STILL CRYING ABOUT THIS

  • Brandon - 12 years ago

To Bill who commented on this about an hour ago, whitney does not look disgusting, actually she looks beautiful and peaceful and like she is on a much better place where she doesn't have a worry in the world. It is "DISGUSTING" that her family cannot have any privacy during this rough time and "DISGUSTING" how desperate people are to make a buck! RIP Whitney!

  • joe fabeetz - 12 years ago

She is still a dead crackhead! Nice job Whitney's family making money off her with the photo!

  • John - 12 years ago

People... it's a body in a casket! Why the big deal? Others are just pissed because they did not get the photo and make the six figures from it! If this were my magazine... I would have made sure there was a clear message to the kids among others.... That no-one seems to be puting out there by the way! My headline would have been: This is what drug and alcohol abuse does to you! It will take a beautiful life!

  • chloe24 - 12 years ago

she is a drug addict. who cares if her picture in a casket is on a newspaper.

  • lynn - 12 years ago

    She looks beautiful,and peaceful!!!

  • BGAINES - 12 years ago

1st off Molly. Her autopsy has not been completed so who knows what lead to her demise, you say it as if she was purposely try to commit suicide. 2nd, here family had a PRIVATE viewing, since when does stipulations change for the famous, why should anyone be subject to anything they don't agree with because of their status. I don't think the Enquirer was wrong for printing the photo but it was very disrespectful for the person to take the photos....

  • Molly - 12 years ago

With celebrity comes the knowledge that you will always be in someone''s attention.
With that comes the expectation that you will always be sought publicly including after death.
With her known vanity, it probably crossed Whitney's mind as she was taking her fatal concoction of alcohol and drugs; "I wonder how they'll display my body when I die, I hope it looks good",
So for someone private to have their corpse on display WITHOUT permission is an reprehensible.
For someone who is in the limelight, especially to the degree she was, its more of a matter of how to manage the eventual exposure.

  • Majistii - 12 years ago

Its's repulsing that even in death you can't have your own privacy. Yes Whitney looks beautiful but there was no consent was given for this photo and whoever took this should be ashamed of themselves because there was no respect for her family wishes. What's even more saddening is that it was probably someone close to the family who did it.

  • Kathleen Muir - 12 years ago

The photo shows an exquisite lifelike Whitney, however why is everyone surprised that there is a photo when people make idols out of celebrities? They are just people and dysfunctional for many of them despite their talent and now she joins the ranks of destruction that has shortened the life of so many. They rely on their great talent, not seeing that it is more important to rely on the God who made them and gave them that talent. Where there's no balance , a sad end comes for many. I'm not saying God did this to her, but merely that by not using Godly wisdom, her decisions brought her down. As a Christian believer in Jesus, I always pray that those left will allow God to reach them to stop a legacy of destruction. Jesus is stronger, has more Grace and Love for anyone who will let Him in. Two things we know. There's birth and death to count on. It's what happens inbetween that prepares us for eternal life or not. It's not what we do, but who we choose to believe in and follow. As believers we have a hope that unbelievers do not but a shadowy assumption that life goes into nothingness. The sad truth is that is a lie but what more could God have done than offer up His only Son on the Cross to bear our sins, pay for them and all He asks us to do is believe in His Son, Jesus, recognize our own fallibility, our sin. We can't make up for it. That's why Jesus came. So only God knows what Whitney believed in her heart and that's the only thing that matters at all. The body is a shell. The real Whitney, her spirit is not there. I will not apologize for this comment. I came to the truth 45yrs ago and Jesus has not failed me and has proved His faithfulness, love, deliverance, grace, forgiveness continually. Let him who has eyes to see, read this with understanding. Kathleen Muir

  • Sheri - 12 years ago

This is a matter of respect - or lack thereof. The media needs to re-evaluate its priorities! Think about it, what if this were one of your family members and the picture just showed up on the front page without warning or permission? It makes me sick.

  • Bill - 12 years ago

If it's so "disgusting" why didn't they close the casket? Even the Enquirer doesn't have X-Ray cameras

  • Peggy - 12 years ago

I feel sorry for Elizabeth Smart. Her big day is overshadowed on the cover by this photo! It just goes to show the direction and mentality the tabloids have as far as what should be more prominent on the cover.......a deceased singer or a beautiful bride!

  • Cinnamon Girl - 12 years ago

I don't know why everyone's shocked at someone selling a photo of Whitney in her casket. Whitney's family and inner circle have been selling stories about her to the tabloids for years and that's probably why she took herself out because she couldn't trust anyone anymore. Say what you want about the Jacksons, but at least noone sold a photo of Michael in his casket.

  • markystyle - 12 years ago

whitney is gone, but the photos live on! if the family didn't want her
death picture viewed , should have sealed her casket, its obvious some
of her inner circle and rich friends viewed her. but her loyal fans were kept
far away. i guess her close friends, celebrites and enablers were in deep denial
but big deal ,addiction always ends with JAIL , INSTITUTION'S OR DEATH!
    end of conversation.....................................................................................

  • Highflier - 12 years ago

Boo Hoo - what did the magazine do wrong or disgusting? What is disgusting is all the coverage of a drunk drug user! Gimme a break. She might have been a great singer in the past but look what the drugs (for which she spent a fortune) and booze did to her. And this is why we celebrate her.. again, Gimme a break! Publish all the pics you want - afterall it does sell the magazine doesn't it, and no one is forced to look, so....
