Honestly, I have to agree with the first anonymous quote, Ashley was zoned to play at Crystal River and enrolled at CR aswell, Coach Towne recruited her from there. Which yes, is illegal. If my daughter had participated playing soccer this year on the team with Ashley I would have been ashamed, to have my child on the field knowing the falsehood of the team, that is nothing to be proud of. Nothing the Lecanto girls did this year was team effort and it was well known. For someone to win something she doesn't deserve would be an outrage. Many people in the county agree that Lecanto should lose the district title because of it, in turn taking away all the goals. If Ashley is so great, is she going to College on a scholorship? These other girls on the ballot are....

Where did you hear she was zoned for Crystal River, Ashley was never zoned for Crystal River. Her mom had to relocate to Citrus county for a job and they moved to Lecanto and is zoned for Lecanto High School. Her younger brother is zoned and attends lecanto middle. Yes Ashley is going to college on an athletic scholarship to play soccer. Please make sure you have your information correct before you make these comments. You look very foolish making incorrect statements. People's jealousy sometimes makes them say things they shouldn't. Let's keep this forum what it was meant for, honoring 6 great female athletes .

Before you listen to idiots get the facts straight.Here they are so everybody listen up! Ashley moved to Florida because of her mother's job. At the time we weren't sure whether we'd be living in Lecanto or Crystal River. Not knowing anything about either soccer team I called both coaches and left a message for them to contact me so Ashley could play somewhere. Coach Towne called the next day and stated that if we found a place in Lecanto he would be the coach. Crystal River's coach called me back 5 weeks later as the season was starting. We found a place in Lecanto close to work. Crystal River would have been farther away. Coach Towne never even hintedecruiting Ashley. I wouldn't have allowed it anyway. Ashley will be playing at Barry University on scholarship. She is first team allstate, mvp west region, selected to represent Florida at the USA Scholar Athlete games, Rhode Island University in June. Only 12 were picked from Florida. If you want to know anything else, don't hesitate to ask!

Not many athletes have gone their entire high school career undefeated. I think Courtney Spafford is a true inspiration to others that know and love her. She is the ideal friend, daughter, sister, companion, and knows the meaning of treating others as you would like to be treated. Its a tough world out there and it is so hard to compete at a State level where it is so cut throat and kids are expected to win at all cost, even if it means cheating to win. Someone with Courtney's integrety, is not easily compromised. Good Luck! and may the true athlete, please stand up!!!!!

First let me say if you are going to make a nasty comment you should at least say who you are of course if you are just blowing smoke I can understand not leaving your name, dont be a sore loser all these girls deserve this award so I ask why is it always the adults ruin it for the kids?? Now for the truth on Ashley I have known Ashley since she was 9 years old I was her baseball coach at central citrus little leauge she played on a boys team 2nd base & made the allstar team. By the way Ashley had offers from several colleges across the country & she chose a college in the Miami area to stay close to home. I find this very typical for Citrus County people. Talk about something you know very little about. Trying to be a big fish in a little pond. Let me give you the CORRECT information about Ashley. Ashley was a student in this county, not that long ago. Her family returned to Citrus County for employment opportunities. Ashley plays every sport with determination and passion. Ashley is going to college on a soccer scholarship and acedemic scholarship. If you have your information correct and know your facts, CRHS should not have gone to the baseball districts, they have 4 young men that ARE zoned for LHS. Are you considering this the same? So PLEASE get your information correct. Everyone of these girls deserve this award. So lets be proud of each and every one of their accomplishments.

I find it very sad that there is a jealousy over this award. It does not come with a million dollar paycheck, Does it???? grow up! It is very funny that only ONE of these girls is from Crystal River and they are the one who puts information in here about being unfair. Crystal River always gets the most air time on the Citrus County TV station and in the chronicle. There are other high schools in this county with talented students and athletes. Give them ALL credit.

Here is the crazy thing, you all are so worked up over this Bower girl and she could care less. This is honestly the worst idea that the Chronicle could have come up with...and they are a great group of guys. How about next year John, John, John, and Alan all come up with events that each nominee has to compete in such as a decathelon and then you will see who the best athlete really is... No.... wait.... that would actually be better than a BLOG!!!! of comments that any person that knows nothing about any of these great student athletes to start making comments. BTW this year and last year's best athlete by leaps and bounds is Cassidy Rash, for this reason, other than golf, she could dominate any of the sports on the board, sad thing is that many of you out there know too! These are our finest athletes in the county and i wish them all the best of luck.

Wow! I logged on to vote for my sister, who is an amazing athlete, and I was so shocked to see all of the negative statements. I happen to know that Ashley is not just an amazing athlete, but an icredibly well rounded person. Her grades are impecable and she has excelled at any sport that she has played. I have seen her play soccer and do gymnastics and she was EXCEPTIONAL!!!! I know the only reason that they moved is because of her Mom's job. I am sure that her last school, in Kentucky, was very sorry to see her go because she was one of their finest athletes. Instead of wasting time being a hater, try looking up some history on Ashley. She has made the newspaper many, many times because of her outstanding talents. One last thought, why don't you just keep voting for who you want instead of bashing Ashley? GO ASHLEY!!! I can't stand reading all of these negative comments -- these are high school kids, what happened to good sportsmanship? Ashley is the best, don't be jealous of her, support her and all high school athletes. Let's let these kids live up to their potential and bring them into a world of support and not one of negativity and pettiness.

All these girls have worked very hard to get to the level of play they are at. Ashley Brower should be commended as well as Courtney, Rachel, Erin, Victoria and Cass. There are many other talented female athletes in Citrus County. Many girls like the entire Inverness Girls Golf team that did so well and the Lecanto high school Volleyball girls that have been playing together since middle school. Anita M, Brianna Jackson and Brianna Bevins made a tough run at the basketball districts. Unfortunatley, the Chronicle had the most difficult task to narrow the field. Females have come so far in sports! All I liked to do is remind you of what Hannah Storm says " YOU GO GIRL" Ashley Welcome back to Citrus County; you have obviously worked very hard at improving your level of play.

and ashley should clearly be the athlete of the year with her outstanding performance and her broken records.

ashley doesn't deserve this at all! athlete of the year would play more than one sport and excel in both. ashley didn't do squat for this team. if she would play on any GOOD soccer team she would have been laughed at. towne doesn't know how to coach a soccer team, he only plays boot ball. and i know.. i played for him at LHS. ashley is a show off, a ball hog, and a JOKE!!!! she doesn't even know the meaning of athlete. erin is the one who deserves this for sure. i've played with erin for three years and know how hard she has worked and works for everything she has in her life. if ashley wins this then citrus county sports and the people in this area or worse than i have ever thought.

It's great to like someone, but not to the extent that you put others down as well. Ashley won gymnastic championships at 4 years old, played baseball with the boys at 9 and made the all stars, excelled in basketball in New York, diving, soccer, softball, tennis, indoor and outdoor track, and cheerleading in Kentucky. She concentrated on soccer in her senior year because of college. If she was a ball hog she would have had over 100 goals instead of 72 with 37 assists. Please know what you are talking about before making a derogatory comment that makes you look ignorant. Thank you!

Congratulations to twelve superb male and female athletes. You are all winners and have apparently impacted your teams or individual sport. There are no losers here. The only losers are the ones sitting at the computer making ridiculous comments. Good luck to you all in college.

Please folks, let's give only positive comments. I don't know Courtney and I haven't seen her play, but I'm sure she's a great athlete who just doesn't have a lot of people voting for her. That in no way diminishes what she's accomplished. Congradulations to all the girls and boys.

AND IF YOU KNEW ANYTHING ABOUT SOCCER YOU WOULD KNOW THAT WHEN YOU PLAY BOOT BALL THAT MEANS THE DEFENDERS JUST BOOM THE BALL UP TO THE FORWARDS.
